So I get a message today from the Assistant Principal of my kids' school left on my voicemail at work

Of course when I call back they're all gone for the day. :headache:

So I call the hubby to see if he knows what's up...fear pounding in my heart that one of my children have maimed or emotionally scarred a clasemate. :scared:

The kids deny that anything happened. "I didn't do anything!" "I didn't do anything!" Then the boy remembers something that happened today.

The boy is in Kindergarten. Apparently, he is in the bathroom...sitting...doing his business. One of the little girls opens the door and "takes his pictures" while he's sitting on the throne. The little girl ends up in the Principal's office. The boy tells me that the principal told him it was a fake camera.

So my reaction is laughter. My husband's is anger. He doesn't understand why I think it's funny that a little girl was spying on my son's bits....I don't understand why he's angry that a fake picture was taken by a kid that didn't know what she was looking at.

So, would you be upset about what happened to my son? I need to respond appropriately tomorrow when they call me back.

The kids in question are 5 right? No, I wouldnt be upset.

Kindergarteners????
Nah...I'd think it was funny.

Are you sure the camera was fake?????;)

Yup! Two five year olds. I asked my son if he was upset by what happened. He was only upset when the principal talked to him (to show him the camera was a fake) because he thought he was in trouble for something. Then he was upset that it was a fake camera because it had spiderman on it an he wanted one like it because it looked cool.:rotfl:

Sorry...ehm...this is a VERY SERIOUS MATTER! (according to the hubby)

:lmao:

(not at your DH. just at the cute story). Seriously, I wouldn't be worried, sounds harmless to me.....

I would want the girl suspended for sexual harrassment!!!

Just kidding!

It does sound harmless for the age, BUT I don't think it's wrong for these children to be taught and to understand that some things should not be done.

That will be a cute story when he brings home his girlfriend later on in life.

I find it funny too.

I guess I would want to know what the school was going to do to make sure this doesn't happen again, and as long as my child was handling it well (and it sounds like he is), I would let it go.

This will be a great story to tell some day. :lmao:

I think I would follow up with the principal to make sure the camera was a fake - real cameras come with characters on them too - just to be sure that your little one doesn't end up on a website somewhere. Other than that - it was funny.

I think I'd be more upset/concerned at the lack of supervision that allowed the little girl to do this in the first place. Where was the teacher in all of this?

Also, how close are the toilets to the classroom that she was able to actually get in there unsupervised? Are the toilets single sex or unisex? If it's the former I'd really be asking questions as to how this was allowed to happen! Are the toilets communal?

Regardless of all that, everyone has a right to privacy when they are in the toilet.

I'm leaning more toward your husband's way of thinking as what if it hadn't been a fake camera? (Not sure how or why a 5(?) year old would have a real camera at school, but stranger things have happened).

Buy the poor kid a spiderman camera so he won't be scarred for life.

Seriously I think there would only be a problem if your son was upset. I think this time your dh should take his cue from your son.

The sad truth is, in some schools thats exactly what would happen :scared1:

I don't think its funny, but I wouldn't be upset over it either.

Boy.....they sure start paparazzis at a young age. Looks like your son is going to be famous.

I don't find it particularly funny, many children would find it humiliating. At that age the girl should know better.
Is your ds very upset by this? I would take a cue from him & respond accordingly.
The girl needs a talking to about boundaries & respect for privacy.

I actually agree with you. I know it would have been traumatizing for me at that age. (or any age for that matter)
What if a boy did this to a girl? Would anyone feel differently?
While I wouldn't want the kid in jail I would want there to be some consequence (time off recess or something) so she learns not to do something like that again.
