Would YOU be offended if your neighbor mowed your lawn?

I have wonderful neighbors. When my lawn mower was broken, they let me use their mower anytime I wanted to. They are meticulous about their yard. They are away this week, I a guessing til Saturday. Their lawn could have been mowed yesterday. If they were home, they would have done it two days ago. It doesn't look bad. I am not complaining. But, I am out mowing mine and I have another hour to mow, then I would have another hour to mow the front of theirs. It would be as a favor, not as an opinion that their lawn needs mowing and I am unhappy. I am going out to finish my yard. I will check back in an hour. Thanks.

Absolutely not! Grateful? Yes! but not offended.

I would just mow "Welcome Home" into their front lawn! Really though- yeah, if I had the time I would mow it- It is a lovely day in Ct after all.:goodvibes And it would be nice to come home and not have to get right to mowing.

I wouldn't be offended. I think it is a really nice gesture. When I lived in Colorado our next door neighbor would shovel the snow from our walk. I was just grateful.

I think it's a wonderful gesture..sort of a "Thank You" for them letting you borrow their mower.

I know I would LOVE it if my neighbor mowed mine! :)

Go for the mow. Not too short , but enough that you get credit for the job! After last night's rain, and the sun today, it's gonna jump up fast!

We just had a thread about this a while back! I was stunned by the number of people who said they would be upset if a neighbor mowed their lawn. :confused3 My DH did it once for a neighbor and they yelled at him for it. On the other hand, a different neighbor mowed ours and we were extremely grateful.

You just never know with people.

We mow our neighbours small front patch of grass everytime we do ours, so no!

It depends on how well you know your neighbor. There's a couple neighbors whose lawns I wouldn't mow, one because he's meticulous about his lawn (he's a landscaper) and the other because I know he's be annoyed, but otherwise, most of my neighbors would be appreciative.

My one neighbor (the landscaper) cut my lawn for a month or two after my youngest was born just to be nice. Our lawns back up to each other and he has a big professional riding mower, so he figured one day that he'd just keep cutting from his yard into mine. He asked me a couple days later if I minded it, saying he assumed I was busy enough as it was with a new baby. I told him to go for it, but if he didn't feel like doing it anymore to let me know so I knew when to cut my lawn again. :)

Nice, kind, neighborly idea...but I wouldn't do it.

If they're really meticulous they might have certain ways they want it done. To you and me, it's probably unnoticable. But to them, it might matter.

Or, perhaps they've hired someone to cut this week. They might be obligated to pay, even if you do it for free.

BTW, if you were my neighbor, I wouldn't mind.:)

Yeah, I'd be offended.

I'd also think they were people with WAY too much time on their hands.

I wouldn't be, but I have neighbors up here who definitely would be.. They both suffer from OCD (as does their adult son) and they are extremely particular about how things are done.. Even when they pick up twigs in their yard after a storm, they all have to be broken into the exact same length, tied in a bundle, and placed in a certain spot..

Right now the DH is in the hospital with a very serious case of pnuemonia (he has terminal lung cancer) and I'd like to be able to do "something" to help (like the stone they put at the end of their driveway washed out into the road after the heavy rains last night and I would like to rake it back in for them) but I'm scared to death I'll do it wrong and they'll have a fit!!

But if you mow my lawn, what is DW going to do with all that extra time? :rotfl2:

Seriously, I would have no problem with someone mowing my lawn while I was on vacation. I would love it actually. I would appreciate it if they would make certain the gates were closed back when they were done.

When we were at WDW a few weeks ago our neighbor across the street mowed my lawn. She did it after she did hers. They even watered it for us.

I would go ahead and do it!

I personally HATE cutting the grass, so if someone did it for me, I'd be in heaven!! :thumbsup2

BUT, a couple of years ago, my boyfriend accidently cut ONE pass too many on our grass and cut that ONE strip of our neighbor's grass. They immediately (next day) went out and bought shrubs and trees and planted them along that line so we "would never do it again!" :sad2: Sheesh...it was an accident!

Some people are just touchy about their lawns.

But, in your case I think it would be a nice gesture for letting you use their mower. :thumbsup2

Definitely would not be offended. We went on a trip (1 wk) and our neighbor had mowed our lawn. DH and my neighbor help each other out. They're retired and when they go away, we keep an eye on their property. It works both ways. Our other neighbor is the opposite. He would consider it trespassing. If he allowed us, I'd get rid of his poison ivy....:rolleyes1

If it was a one time deal as a favor because I was on vacation, I'd be fine with it. If it became a regular thing, however, I might start to think you were up to something.
