Maybe its just me and I don't like my sisters hubby but he just irks the heck out of me. Tell me if I am over reacting.

I just had a big 40th birthday party for hubby in a private room at a local pub. We had tons of food and drinks. Here are the drink selections we offered our guests:

soda
Maragaritas
Coors
Coronas
Amstel/Light
Heineken/light
Merlot
Pino Grigio

When the waitress came around to take his and my sisters drink order she read him the selections and he says in front of everyone " do you have such and such beer? The waitres says "yes, but you will have to run your own tab", he says "fine thats what I'll do" and my sister and him order that special beer.
I think its beyond rude. Like our selections don't measure up to his "tastes".
Meanwhile this guy had 2 buck chuck wine and coors beer for his wedding and no one said boo.
I was embarrassed that they did that especially in front of other guests. :sad2:

While it seems a bit snobbish, at least you saved yourselves some money!!! When you first started in with the story, I thought you were going to say that they stuck you with the tab at the end!

I guess to me it depends on the tone of voice when he said 'fine that's what I'll do.'

I mean if it was rude and sarcastic that's one thing, if it was just that he was willing to pay the extra to get what he wanted, I don't see why that's a problem.

I don't get why you are upset? He didn't make a big scene about it, right? He just had a preference for another kind of beer? :confused3

Seriously, I think you are way over-reacting. It's no skin off my nose if people have different tastes. I think you are letting your obvious dislike of the man temper your feelings on this. If it were anyone else in the group...someone that you DID like...would you really care?

I thought the exact same thing! It wouldn't bother me in the least if someone did not like the beer I had, if they want to pay for a different one, then by all means they can go right ahead. :thumbsup2 If someone isn't serving the drink of my choice, I wouldn't hesitate to buy what I prefer. I'm not going to drink something I don't like!

That wouldn't bother me. I think you might be taking it too personally - I don't think he did anything wrong at all. There's nothing ill-behaved with wanting a special item and being willing to pay for it yourself.

If I was having a party at my home, they would be drinking what me the host provided, why is it different if I am paying for drinks out somewhere?

I would still think it was rude even if it was someone I liked.

Anyway OP, I would have ordered a vodka and cranberry or something like that. DH would have got a 7&7.

And frankly being from MO, your selection would not fit in here.;)
No Bud, Busch, or Bud Light? I don't care for your beer selection, sorry.

As long as he didn't act put out by having to run his own tab, then it wouldn't bother me. He wasn't saying your taste wasn't good enough, he was saying he perfered another beer and didn't have a problem paying for it.

I think as long as he didn't stick you with the bill, it's not a huge deal. If he did, I'd be MAD! lol

But it wasn't at your home. It was at a pub where there were other options. :confused3

I don't think it is rude at all to order what you like as long as you are willing to pay for it.

It's different because you WERE in a bar that provided other beverages. It's not rude for someone to ASK if there were other drinks available if they didn't like what you had as provided, as long as they were willing to pay for the drink themselves. It's really not a personal attack on you. You had lots of nice choices, yes, but some folks prefer to drink other things.

It would have been one thing if he ordered something different and expected you to PAY for it...that would be totally wrong...but for him to pay for his own different drink, still no big deal, IMHO.

It wouldn't have bothered me in the least because I don't think of it as a personal attack on my taste if people have their own preferences.

Get over it. He didn't like what you had. Dont be a ***** about it.

As long as the guest paid, I wouldn't care what they ordered. I dislike tequilla, beer and wine, so I would have wanted a rum and coke and paid for it. I wouldn't force myself to order and drink something just because it was free.

I don't see the big deal. :confused3 It's not like he ordered it and asked you to pay for it. Maybe he just had a taste for that particular beer that day.

I would not be bothered or offended by this. He clearly stated he was willing to pay for his choices.
