Would you attend this wedding?

no, but my point is..if you ask anyone to attend any event on Dec 22nd people will say it is too close to Christmas

Yes, and my point is that you cannot compare attending a child's birthday party (2 hours? Same town?) to flying cross country and getting a hotel to spend at least two days at a wedding. The two events simply do not compare, and the fact that people who say "it's too close to Christmas" show up at the birthday party anyway doesn't mean those same people would show up at this wedding.

If I could be there for a close friend or relative, I would go.

I had my wedding on the July 4th weekend and I got all kinds of flack for having it on a holiday weekend. Whatever, if you don't want to come, don't come, otherwise glad to see you there!

I would only go if I were close to the person or if it required no travel.

Honestly, my DH and I and the majority of our family members are teachers as well, and even though I wanted a December wedding, I avoided it for a couple of reasons. One, because people seem to be really strapped during Christmas and I didn't want to add the financial expense of a wedding gift to people during that time. Two, because of people being unable to travel who I really wanted to take part of our day. Three, because of my parents' experience with having a December anniversary. It seems their anniversary is always overlooked and caught up with the Christmas hoopla. There's just too much to do during that time and it's stressful enough. They try to take time for themselves that day, but it just seems that it would be so much easier if it were further from Christmas.

If the couple were close to me, I would offer this advice and suggest the possibility of waiting until spring break a couple of months later. The weather in Florida is perfect, teachers are off, and it will always be a nice time to celebrate an anniversary. Yes, people may travel and not be able to attend, but 4/2013 is a ways away and those who want to attend would be able to make the necessary arrangements by that time.

But their guests are not from Florida, so they won't all have the same spring break.

Spring break is not the same for everyone AND it's super expensive to fly into Florida for Spring Break.

There's no good time for everyone to have a wedding. I showed this thread to the Bride. She thanks you all for the answers and has decided to keep her date. :thumbsup2

I am not interested in paying for travel for anyone's wedding with the exception of our siblings because I wouldn't miss their weddings for the world. I simply don't want to spend our vacation time and money going to someone's wedding.

There would be a lot of things that would determine my ability to attend that wedding, but I wouldn't rule it out solely based on "3 days before Christmas".

How close am I to the couple?
What are my finances like?
How much vacation time do I have?
What else might be going on at that time?
