As you may remember, we are opening the process for permanent placement for Christian. Today, a lady from the GA DHR came out to the house to evaluate his need, to see how critical(or not) they deem the situation. I *know* in my heart that we cannot go on much longer caring for Christian. Lately it seems that he is falling more, or throwing us down, or choking us accidently. I have found him outside standing on the driveway 3 times in the last 2 weeks. We are trying to keep a close eye on Christian, but he's fast (and sneaky!) Thank God school starts tomorrow.

If you have a minute to think a nice thought for us, we'd appreciate it. They know we need help and we know we need help, but it is so frustrating having to constantly justify and prove ourselves. I have no idea which way this meeting went. The lady was very nice and says she will work to help us, but she's employed by a govt agency. It is not in the govts interest to take on this child and I know they will deny us until the last possible moment. It costs about $80,000/year to keep someone in a group home. Georgia has a system of Medicaid vouchers which pay for different levels of care. The one we have right now pays for about 20 hours/week for a caregiver to come in to our home, but it does not pay for any respite away from Christian. We have been told that when he turns 21 he will automatically be awarded the voucher which pays for full care. Christian is 15. We're not going to make it another 6 years. Our health is failing by increments. I am afraid that if we dont' get Christian placed soon, our family is going to fail entirely.

This is my boy and his big sister!

Minky you are a great Mom. When I see your posts I always think about Christian. I pray for the very best outcome for him and your family. I hope the meeting was in your favor. Prayers to all of you.

As always you are in my prayers for your family Minkydog. You are doing the right thing.

Like I have said before, there is no way in heck I could provide all the physical care for either of my 15 year olds so just the fact that you DO is amazing. I can't even carry them so getting them in and out of bed, the bath, etc would be impossible here.

Best of luck to you and hopefully this moves along just quickly enough that you get used to the idea and no one gets hurt waiting.

Great picture! He does have that sneaky look in his eyes! You have beautiful children.:)

Prayers for you, Christian and your family. My sister lives next door to a group home for autistic men, and they seem to do very well there. I hope the process goes smoothly and speedily for you.

You and your family are always in my thoughts and prayers. I'll add a few extra for you and for Christian:hug:

Sending prayers for you, Christian and your family! I can't imagine how hard making a decision like this is, but you must take care of ALL of your family. You have done a wonderful job with Christian so far; keeping him at home for much longer than others would have done.

Praying that everything works out!:grouphug:

Hugs to you, minkydog! I've read your posts and your love for your darling boy is beyond measure. I know this has got to be heart wrenching for you. God is soooo good, put your trust in Him and he will see you through.

Thoughts and prayers coming your way!

Thank you for posting the picture you have always been in my, and a lot of other peoples, prayers and will continue to be. As far as the govt worker and what they will or will not approve is it possible to maybe videotape a "Day in the life of" Minkydog family...maybe once someone actually sees how hard it really is on all of you it can help....pictures worth a 1,000 words you know? Totally different than a short observation from a social worker or a written report from school..may help..
