Hi!

DH and I are babysitting (sleepover) for our DS at the GF for one night - 2 grand daughters aged 5 and 2.

We were thinking of the 1900 Park fare dinner at 6:00. Then get a taxi for a horse and buggy ride at FW about 8:00 pm. Ride the boat from FW back to the MK and boat or monorail back to the GF to watch fireworks in PJ's just before bed at 9:30.

Am I being a temporal optimist? Is this possible or way too busy?

Sounds like a lot of transportation going on - maybe do the Backyard BBQ or Hoop Dee Doo at FW so at least your nearby for the horse/buggy ride, then take taxi back (or boat to MK or Contemporary and then monorail it to GF for fireworks?)

You might be able to do it if you have a teleporter.

If your ADR is at 6:00, you probaly won't be leaving until about 7:30. It will take you 45 minutes or so to get to the carriage rides. If you luck out timing-wise and make it on time, you won't be back at GF until 9:15ish. What time do the fireworks start?

I would skip the buggy ride. I would check out the times the movies on the Beach are shown and plan on taking them to that if the times work out.

If you're taking a cab to FW, you should be able to get to the carriage ride at 8pm. The problem would be getting from FW back to your room at the GF, via boat and monorail, before fireworks at 9pm.

If you really want to do 1900PF and the carriage ride, one option would be to watch the fireworks from outside the front entrance of MK. Then when it's over, you'll easily beat the crowd up the resort monorail ramp. Or just cab back to GF like previous poster mentioned.

When my kids were that age at Disney, they were in bed by 8:00. It would have made for a horrible next day otherwise! With all the fresh air and stimulation, they desperately needed quiet wind down time to sleep well. If my parents had them, I'd make sure they were done with dinner by 6:30 so they could get their bath and in their jammies. We had to keep a similar schedule on vacations at that age! They didn't see fireworks till they were a bit older, and that worked for us.

For us, that would be way too busy! We'd eat earlier, get ready for bed and chill out (or go for a stroll).

I'd ask the parents, what time do they normally go to bed? My kids at that age were by 7:30. You don't want to over stimulate them, then have them miserable. Some kids have different timing - but sleep very late too.

Fireworks are at 9:30 that night. It is kind of tight timing wise!

I am beginning to think that a cab back is the only way to really be sure. Watching wishes in front of the MK won't work because the kiddos need to be in Pj's and ready for bed after fireworks.

I understand your concern. I think that I am being too ambitious. I wanted to make the evening really special for them, so I am trying to do too much.

Yes, I am talking to the parents. The 2 grandchildren usually go to bed at 9:00 pm and with the time change it's not too bad to watch fireworks from outside your room at 9:30 and then crash right after (already in PJ's).
However, the overstimulation and running around will probably just be overwhelming for us all.



Thank you to everyone that replied!!! I think that through your kind words, I have come to the conclusion that we should stay at the GF, have dinner, maybe watch a movie and get ready for begin time to watch Wishes from the balcony. Everyone will do better to get a good nights' sleep that way.

Maybe we'll get the girl's hair done in the morning instead...

I would go with the modified plan. I will share with you that when my DGD was 5, we stayed at the Poly. One evening my DD and her DH, and my DS and DDIL went to an arcade and we stayed behind with her. SHe is almost 14 now, and just the other day she told me that she still remembers playing in the sand on the beach while the electric light parade went past. You do not need to pack a lot in an evening in order to make it special. You plan to have a fun meal and then get the kiddos ready for bed so they can enjoy the fireworks sounds like a memory maker to me.

I think your modified plan looks great! It will be nice to not have to rush through dinner and you won't be looking at your watch the whole time. If you wanted to do something else special, how about a new princess dress or outfit for them to wear to dinner?

Don't they have a little campfire and movies on the beach at GF? Bring a bag of marshmallows, sticks, and a blanket to cuddle up under and you have a nice evening at the resort.

Yes. I am planning to take my grand daughters one night in August. I bet teh OP's little guy would love to go as well.
