Have a DVC reservation and another family joining us. Ready to book Dining Plan as we have in the past. Here's the issue...other family's child just graduated college and won't be able to travel for the first part of our vacation. Can I remove her from reservation and book dining plan for everyone else. Then the college grad can join vacation mid-week and pay cash for her own meals.

Yes, there have been posts that others have done this.

Would the late comer be a registered guest? I thought all registered guest have to be on the same DDP?

Or is it different if you register the additional guest part way into the reservation?

Does the late comer plan to use Magical Express? If so, he/she must be listed on the reservation. If on the reservation, he/she must pay for the DP for all nights.

Are you able to cover all of your meals with your dining plan credits or are you going to be paying for some out of pocket? If you're paying out of pocket, you could register the grad & buy the same dining plan for her as everyone else. Have her pay a portion of the dining plan cost proportionate to how many of the credits she will use. And then you &/or the rest of your party can split the cost of the rest. Since all of the meal credits will be lumped together simply as adult credits, anyone in your group could use those extras & saving paying out of pocket.

You wouldn't be able to have them on the reservation without purchasing the dining plan for them. So they would not be able to use Magical Express or take advantage of the extended magic hours.

As I posted above, there have been several reports of guests being added to a room reservation and tthey did not get the dining plan like the rest of the guests on the reservation. If I remember correctly, they were added after check in.

I think we all misunderstood what you meant & thought you were giving the advice to just leave the grad off the reservation. But, you're totally right. Since the dining plan has to be pre-purchased & can't be added at check in. It would probably work to take the grad of the reservation now & buy the dining plan for everyone else. Then they can add her back on after check in when purchasing the dining plan is a null point.

It has happened but to do so purposefully to avoid the DP charge would be dishonest. This is a situation where intent is the defining factor.
