This isn't really DVC related but it is miscellaneous.

My DS and my future DDiL are going to WDW on their honeymoon in a few weeks. They were given quite a few Disney Gift Cards as wedding shower gifts. Last night they told me they intend to charge things to the room (on their credit card) and at check out pay for the items with the Gift Cards.

If I remember correctly, room charges are put on the credit card on a regular basis and not held until check out. I advised them to use the Gift Cards at the time they are paying for "whatever" instead of charging things to the room. We made the ressies using our points so they don't have to pay for the resort, just things like food or souviners. Did I give them the right advise.

They could put the gift cards on account when they check in and then they can just charge using the one room key--(might be more convenient than carrying around a bunch of GCs.)

Just have them put the gift card as room credit when they check in .

We use the Disney Rewards card for WDW stays. We put the cc on our room when we check in but (and this is important!) you have to go close out the room charges the night before with the gift card. If you wait until check-out day it's too late (my dh forgot to go once and it was a huge mess). HTH

That makes sense. I told them to ask at check-in how best to use them, I just wanted to give them some direction.

They only charge your credit card when you reach the limit set by the hotel - for deluxes, it's $1500. At that point, they charge your credit card.

We usually carry some gift cards with us and pay with them, only because it prevents too many nasty surprises at the end of the trip when you get your bill. But we use the KTTW card to charge things as well.
