Would this Work? Dining plan Credits

I am still trying to figure out if this would work for my family, but we are looking at adding the Dining Plan to our summer visit (one TS, one QS, one snack). My son just turned 10 so I know we will be paying the adult price for him. Of course, he's my super picky child that only wants Mac and Cheese, pizza, or corndogs.

From what I've read, my daughter who is 8 could take his adult meal while he takes the child meal, but what I'm wondering is, could we pay OOP for a kids meal for him (while using the dining plan points for me, DH and DD) and save his TS credits? My hope is that my husband and I can use the his credits towards a 2 TS credit signature dinner for ourselves, like Flying Fish Cafe or CA Grill? We are only staying 3 nights. I understand that he has to pay adult price/credits for any character meals, dinner shows, and all you care to eat places, but I'm not sure we'll be doing any this trip.

Yes, we did this last November with our just turned 10YO. if there was nothing on the adult menu that she wanted we just advised the server that we were using 2 TS credits and will pay oop for a kids meal. Not a problem in any of the places we ate even Tepan Edo where she got loads of food but we just paid the kids price. Buffets you cannot do this.

I am so glad I scanned the threads and read this before I posted my question. I did all the calculators for my family and DDP worked out best for us. We are planning to pay for 2 meals out of pocket. My 11 yo was looking at the menus yesterday, changed her mind and decided she really just doesn't like most of the adult meals but does the kids.

Let me make sure I am getting this straight:
We are eating at LeCellier where we would be charged 2 Adult TS credits for my 11yo. She would be happier eating the child's sirloin which costs $12 plus the $6 sundae. So we could tell the waiter we wanted to pay for this out of pocket- $18

We could then free up 2 TS credits that we will be using for Crystal Palace Breakfast we are planning to pay for Out of Pocket- $50 so we would be saving ourselves $32.

Will this work for menu order TS? I know buffets she will be charged full adult price.

Officially I believe you can only pay the child menu price for a child in your party who is actually 3 to 9 years old. So, not sure if 11 year old can pay $12 oop for a child's menu steak. (For a person 10+: I thought they would sell you an adult size of the child menu item, for an increased price?)

(I think OP has one child age 8, and another child age 10. I doubt there's any problem - even 'officially' - with the 8 year old ordering the child food at child price, giving it to her sibling, and the 10 year old doing the opposite. I.e., that family has the 3-9 year old to order at the cheap oop child price.)

But whatever - I'm no child food price police! Just mention this - I've been asked the age of my tall DS by our waiter at many Disney restaurants.

Yes, at most TS restaurants where you order from a menu, your daughter will be able to order from the kids menu and you can pay OOP. There have been occasional posts that someone wasn't allowed to do this by a server or restaurant, but most often this has been at the third party restaurants. I have never heard that this was a problem at Le Cellier.

Your daughter will be charged the adult price at buffets, all you care to eat family style restaurants, CRT, Akershus, the 3 dinner shows, Fantasmic! Dinner Package, Candlelight Processional Dining Package, the platter at Whispering Canyon Cafe and any fixed price special dining events.

Is it pretty easy to have the servers divvy up credits at TS? I was hoping to be able to do this, but feared it would cause a lot of confusion. But it sounds like this is something they probably deal with a lot?

Family of 6 here. Two of my kids are 12 and 11, so "disney adults". The 11yo is autistic and will only eat french fries in restaurants :roll eyes:. I'm planning to pay for his side of french fries and drinks at all TS out of pocket, saving up all his TS credits. Then using those to defray the cost at CRT for the whole family on our last day. Sounds like this will work!

It is super easy, we do it all the time. You just say "I'd like to use points for her, her, and me, and we'll buy this and that cash and we'll split that meal between those two". They have absolutely no problem w it. I can't remember any server who found it confusing. I'm sure they get such requests all day long.
