During a discussion with his boss yesterday about when overtime would start, Dh said he hoped it would be soon because his Dw (me) is an expensive habit. That didn't bother me, it's the truth I was actually bothered by his boss's reply to get rid of me. Now, I've never met this man and probably never will since you have to have security clearance to enter the shipyard at all. He is probably just joking. It just really bugged me that someone would even jokingly suggest a divorce, especially since he knows I'm sick. I don't think he has anything against me personally since I bake constantly for the whole crew and he's sent me flowers during my myriad hospital stays. To Dh's credit, he told his boss he could never get rid of me and then quoted the whole touching scene from Coneheads where Beldar tells Primat what he would do if she died (don't remember the whole thing but it's funny and touching and he tells me that all the time). Anyway, Dh wasn't at all bothered by this as he says the guy is just kidding with him but it really rubbed me the wrong way. I know I'm being overly sensitive but would this have bothered anyone else?

It wouldn't have bothered me in the context you're describing. Your DH must have known it was all in jest or he wouldn't have even told you.

No, he was just joking and it's nice that he and your DH can talk casually. This man sent you flowers while you were hospitalized? Then he is a man who really means no disrepect to you.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I think it was completely in jest, especially since you've mentioned he's sent flowers to you, etc. I wouldn't let it get to you... I'm sure he meant no harm.

No, I would have laughed about the comment too.

I think you are taking this way too personaly. It was obviously in a joking matter. I make cracks about my DH every day at work. If he took all the comments I made about him personaly he would have left me long ago.
