Would this be a wise idea?

So, we are considering going in Jan, and I would LOVE to stay at WL, or Poly. So....to possibly save a few bucks, I was thinking about booking room only now, and changing it to a package later (especially IF I get a code). However, with the package, I was only going to buy a one day pass for DF and I each so I could get the dining, and then buy passes now at the Disney store so I could get the 2007 rate before ticket prices go up. I think it would only save me a couple of dollars, but every little bit helps. Any ideas on my idea? Thanks!

I am sure you are going to get advice both for and against this idea. My thoughts are this is not a good idea, because:

- you are considering
- do you know for sure prices will increase?
- you will end up paying more per day between the pass you buy now and the 1 day MYW you buy for the DDP - ticket prices are very heavily weighted on the first days, ie one day is appx $70 vs 6 days is <$40 per day.
- Time-Value-Money theory, are you going to save enough to make up for the loss of the ability to use those funds now.

What I think would be a good idea is to do a room only reservation for the resort of your choice and then change it to a package later when your plans are finalized and hopefully with a code.

just my thoughts

You can not change a room only reservation into a package. Although many say they have done it and your ta or cm will tell you they are doing it, what is actually happening is the room only reservation is being cancelled and the initial deposit is being refunded and the new package reservation is being made, requiring a new deposit.

Any savings you will get by purchasing 2007 tickets will be way more than eaten up if you are buying tickets 2x. One day tickets are like $70 per adult for base tickets. Even if tickets go up 20% and you are looking at a 10 day ticket with hopping/wp, the price would only increase by $60 - it would actually cost you $10 more to do what you are saying, but ofcourse you would have that one day ticket left over.

Why are you considering a package? ugh..reread so deleted the rest. But definitely if you want the dining plan you will do best by just getting the package through disney, (or aaa or whatever ta) and going with your full tickets through the package.
