Would The Weakening Pound Make You Cancel?

Would you cancel or postphone your trip, if the pound weakened against the dollar too much? We're thinking of going late August early September but I was just pricing out a villa rental before and realised the pound closed at $1.38 today, making it a heap more expensive.

I've been to Disney before when it got that low and things did seem more expensive. But I think I would postphone if it went as low as $1.20.

Would you postphone your trip if the pound weakened too much? Or do you think Disney will offer even more incentives for British folk to go, if that happened? I remember them offering deals for Canadians when their dollar was weak.

i must admit it is something we have talked about, we are due to go august 2adults and 3 teens so cost is something we have to look at but i work off the lowest rate we have ever had which was $1.35 in 2000 so that is our bench mark

Speaking personally then no - but that is only because I am paid in $'s into a UK bank, so I have effectively had a 30% pay rise since September. If anything we will be going more and our trip in Feb came about because of the decline of the pound.
I understand that this isn't the case for everyone, but we all have to 'make hay while the sun shines' so to speak.

No, would never cancel a trip to Orlando due to exchange rate provided I could still afford to go.

no i would not cancel, just change spending habits, cut my cloth accordingly.

no way, we are going with free dining so dont really need much more for spending money. I'm hoping it will rise a bit beofre we go

No, we never spend much anyway over there, its a bit of a pain with ticket prices going up though. We won't be buying tickets for US/IOA or Seaworld this year.

Wouldn't cancel after booking BUT the £ along with diminishing investments has stopping me booking.

After doing upto 4 trips a year, this year is going to be a shock to the system.
So far booked 1 trip for August, been checking flight prices for May and Oct half terms, some days almost hitting the buy button, after yesterdays drop in £ the chances of me buying flights just now is almost zero.

The trip we have planned this August is a little special as its our 20th Anniversary so gone for more luxury holiday instead of our usual hol so hopefully that will make up for taking just the 1 trip.
Last night I got the calculator out considering cancelling the 7 night Disney cruise part of the hol as its now going to cost me about £350 more than when we booked, now at £1,895 but worked out cost for extra car hire, budget hotel and offsite food in Orlando would be £1,000+ so for now decided to stick with the cruise.

So glad I booked 16 nights at OKW with free dining. £91/night for 3 of us seems a bargain now. We would almost spend that on food with the current exchange rate.

The exchange rate would not make us cancel as we already have flights paid for, and deposits for villa arranged in £££, hotel arranged in £££, and car hire arranged in £££ all booked last Aug before the £ dropped. if we were to book the same hotel and car they would be costing us alot more now!! But it has made us change our plans, we have now decided to cancel the 2 nights we had pencilled in for the Hard Rock and will no longer be visiting US/IOA we worked out these 2 nights/3 days would be costing us approx £700.
Now we have 5 nights at the Residence Inn (paid) where we will visit Seaworld and Aqatica, then 2 days to just take a drive and see where we get to (maybe Key Largo ) then 8 nights at a villa in Sarasota where we will spend most days at the beach and a couple at Busch Gardens. We had already decided to give WDW a miss this year as ds is 4 and already been 3 times and have now decided to do HRH, US/IOA and a beach villa in 2010 with my mum and step dad (good babysitters!) and hpefully back to WDW in 2011!

No I would never cancel if I could still afford it. I bought my tickets when the exchange rate was good,. so even though it was a good deal then, it's ended up being a bargain now!

I have lots of characters meals/onsite meals, and dine with Shamu and lots others planned, so if I haven't quite got enough spending money I'll just cut back on those.

Next time I hope to go during the free ddp deal so will be alot cheaper than this trip even if the pound does plummet further.

Last year I went 3 times and whilst my next trip (November) is mostly paid for, I think the number of trips I make will be cut back.

I too have been when the pound was this low before and expect to continue going; just not so often.

It was good while it lasted ::yes::

exactly the same as me, i earn in us dollars, so having suffered for years with the strength of the pound, i have finally got a 30% pay rise (and rising) i feel i am the only person happy at the weakness of the pound.
:cheer2:

Wouldn't cancel. Althought the pound is weak, our mortgage has come down from about £500 to £200 a month so that more than makes up for any shortfall.
Ironically the low pound will probably stop me from filling my shopping basket in the malls with gear I don't really need. I'll probably think a bit more before buying which will probably save me money.

we wouldnt cancel, just perhaps would control our spending a bit more.
would love it to be at least 1.5 but at the end of the day will have a great time no matter what. :)

We wont be cancelling and are travelling in April this year with the whole trip paid for with the exception of 11 days of hotels. I pre ordered my currency and have enough to fund this trip at a rate of around $1.95 to the pound (presuming the provider survives!!).

We have been 15 of the last 16 years and for the first time in a long time dont think we will be going again for a while, not even sure about Europe either so it may be a trip to Scotland for a couple of weeks which will still be good, if not quite the same.

No because we booked in pound and got the dining plan - in pounds :thumbsup2

We didnt spend much last year - and came back with quite a bit of money, were not planning on taking too much spending money. Last year I ended up buying things for the sake of it as I had so many dollars!

I was hoping to pay for our deposit of $200 for our room reservation through disney US. I should have done it last week when it was 1.45 but was being greedy hoping that it would creep upto 1.5.

We don't have any WDW trips booked at the moment ( and we're not liky to in the next few years) but we do have a 2010 DCL Baltic cruise booked. If the £/$ rate stays at the level it is now then we would have to cancel as even without paying for any flights the cost just could not be justified

Agree 100%. If we had a trip booked we wouldn't cancel it. However, we have decided that this is the year that we don't go. We're hoping for a 21-25nt trip August 2010 and hopefully by then the $ rate will have improved.
With money not "making" much here we have decided that this is the year that we buy a new car (taking advantage of low prices and deperate dealers:thumbsup2 ) and make home improvements. Hopefully this planning works in our favour for next years trip:thumbsup2

It wouldn't make us cancel this year's holiday for many reasons.

We haven't been since 2006 and have (for other reasons) cancelled our last 2 holiday's.
We had $1500 left over from our 2006 trip.
John managed to significantly add to that by getting more $$$ over a period of time when the rate was very high, hence we have around $3500 ready and waiting.
We are definitely not going next year, because whilst we can afford to we simply feel now we have been so many times there are other priorities.
