Would SSR be TOO new to stay in?

I was sort of bent on switching 3 days of our August stay to SSR, if at all possible, as soon as the Feb. "switching window" for us non- SSR owners opened up. HOWEVER.. it occurred to me how very "new" it is, with a new bldg opening every month this summer as it is completed. Now, I love going new places, and a bit of construction here and there doesn't bother me too much, BUT... I cannot stand that "new carpet" smell. And for some reason, new hotel carpet just realllllly reeks.

Did any of you stay in a newly newly carpeted DVC room at any point along the way? Did it have that ucky new carpet odor?

Just wondering.... I'm really not a hypersensitive freak (or at least, not often!), but odors like that get to me. You would think a research chemist working at a chemicals plant would be the LEAST sensitive person on the planet, but maybe that's my defense mechanism kicking in -- anything that smells that bad should be in a fume hood!

hey I have allergies - so yes I do understand!

I would just ask for building 1 - since it is openning in May by August this should not be a problem.

the DVC resorts are not a closed building -so I have had less problems staying in them even after a rehabit than some of the other ones - in worst case - you open the patio/balcony door and go in the main area of the resort until the smell is somewhat gone.

WHen OKW was first expanding I stayed in some of the new building - again I didn't have a problem.

Interesting point - in what was my new house back in 97, I developed a severe reaction to new building material outgassing and had to go onto puffers and breathing exercises to get my lungs back into order

As a result we moved and purchased a 1931 built house that is all hardwood floors except for the basement (carpet). When we installed new carpet, we specifically purchased low outgassing carpet material to avoid anything happening again

I have not thought of this until now with your post - probably the only way to know for sure is to get the carpet make and manufacturer (especially for the in room carpet) and then the materials composition and from there

We stayed at BWV a couple of years ago when they were replacing the hall carpet, literally right outside the door.

(Must have been miles of it )

I'm not terribly sensitive to annoying smells, but I'm sure between the glue odor and the new carpet smell, it probably would have bothered some people.

Interesting, though, after a couple of days you couldn't smell anything.

Just got back from Pop Century and it was only a week old . I am not sensative but there was no smell that I could tell. Everything was nice and running well.

It couldn't be any worst than the rug smell on the monorail!
