I'd love to know what you thought of the restaurant and what you ordered. We have ressies there instead of Kouzzina. We have done Kouzzina 4 times on our DHS days and I'm looking for something different. We're staying at POR, so I thought Boatwrights would be a good choice.

We ate there in May (2 adults, no kids). We picked it because DH likes spicy/Cajun/Creole cooking (I do not but figured I could take one for the team, since we were trying mostly new places) and because we were going to stay for Bob Jackson's show in the lounge next door.

DH had the catfish and liked it very much; said it was spicy but not HotHotHot. I had the grilled beef tenderloin medallions and was massively impressed. The meat itself was good and the "adult" mac & cheese (white cheddar, iirc) that came with it was lovely.

Desserts were meh. DH had the Angel Food cake but it was not as light as it could have been. I had the bread pudding which was just silly because we'd eaten at Ohana eariler in the week, and nothing compares to Ohana bread pudding.

Overall: we would definitely eat there again.

NOTE: Boatwrights used to get good reviews, but over the
past two years has really gone down hill in the food quality
department. In our opinion, it is below average - convenient for
resort guests but not recommended. If staying at POR, we do
recommend walking to POFQ for the food court.

Thumbs down from me. We ate there on Spring break while staying at POR. We had to wait for a table about 20 minutes despite having an ADR. DH had the catfish and liked it. I had the jambalaya and the sausage had hollow pockets with some whitish fatty stuff which totally grossed me out. I know sausage has fat in it but these were nickel sized globs. The kids had chicken fingers which were fine.

We just ate there last Wednesday - DH and I both had the tenderloin medallions with Mac and cheese and asparagus and we were both very impressed with everything (exception: the crawfish beignets - horrible! However they are just little additions to the plate and not needed). The food was well prepared and the steaks rivaled the fancier places.

The cornbread they served was warm and the butter was whipped - DS loved it. Our service was uninspired, but pleasant and we had very little wait. We were staying at SSR at the time so it was nice to just run "up the street" so to speak. That said, I think we'd go back just for the food and atmosphere. The kids meals are standard, but DS was happy.

We had the pecan pie (good) and bread pudding (meh) for dessert. And we were absolutely enchanted with the resort itself - wow!!! Just beautiful!

We ate there last Sunday and thought it was one of the best meals of our trip. For reference, we also had dinners at Citricos, Il Mulino, la Hacienda de San Angel, Jiko and Fulton's on this visit.

We made this reservation last minute after the snowstorm in the Northeast canceled our flight home. With an extra 2 days in Disney World, we wanted something easy and nearby. Since we were staying at Port Orleans, we chose Boatwrights. Now we think that we've been remiss in not utilizing this great restaurant more.

We checked in about 15 minutes early and were seated shortly before our actual ADR time. Our server, Melissa, was attentive and courteous throughout the meal without hovering or being too present. Both I and my partner had three courses, which is not something we do often. I started with the French onion soup -- not something I usually order, but I thought it was delicious. He had the gumbo. He thought it was a little too much like a stew and not chunky enough. He did think it had a good flavor, though. He says that although he probably wouldn't order it again, he doesn't regret his decision to try it.

For my entrée, I had the beef tenderloin medallions with red wine demi-glace, asparagus, crawfish beignet, and mac-and-cheese. I thought this was an excellent dish, and something that anybody missing the filet with mac and cheese previously offered at Jiko should try. True, the quality of beef is probably not the same at Boatwrights as it is at Jiko, but it was still cooked exactly to my specification of medium and its accompaniments complemented it very well.

My partner had the pork chop with cheese grits and onion rings for his main course. The pork chop was surprisingly well cooked. Pork can dry out easily, but that wasn't the case here. When it arrived at the table, he saw that it was smothered in barbecue sauce and figured that the sauce was going to be masking a dry chop, but the pork was moist and the tangy barbecue sauce only enhanced it. The cheese grits and onion rings were also outstanding.

We asked Melissa if we could take our desserts to go. She and the kitchen were happy to oblige, even though I wanted the butterscotch crème brûlée and they had no appropriate "to go" vessel to replace the ramekin in which the dish would normally be served. My crème brûlée may not have been pretty, but it was quite good. My partner ordered the pecan pie, which he enjoyed thoroughly, even though it was a tad over-sweet.

All in all, we had an excellent Southern-style meal and will not hesitate to return to Boatwrights for dinner.

We ate there with family. We did not like our shrimp pasta but they enjoyed their steak. We do like the pasta station at the food court. It's great.

Enjoy.

:)

Click on my May 2011 thread for pics and review, we loved Boatwrights! We just ate at Kouzzina 2 weeks ago and it was ok but Boatwrights was much better

It's so hard to figure out where to eat dinner after DHS. Like I said, Kouzzina has been our go-to restaurant, but I really wanted to try something different. We're doing Sci-Fi one day for DS's b-day trip...he loves the cars and movie trailers.

I'm so glad that the reviews of Boatwrights are mostly favorable. We will likely end up eating the medallions and mac, and the pork chop. Good to hear that they have good reviews.

Thanks again for taking the fear our of this ressie! :flower3: It will make the evening so much more relaxed. Just go back to the resort, eat, and take a nice walk.
