Would it be too obnoxious to NOT use chopsticks at Tokyo Dining?

Kinda want to try Tokyo Dining...love Japanese food, but have never gotten the hang of chopsticks. Dare I ask for a fork!??!?:scared1:

They graciously supply them quickly, often have forks on the serving tray in case you ask for them.

I'm just OK with chopsticks, but my food gets a little cold while I eat with them:rolleyes1. I usually opt for a fork just in case at the outset. Better to eat with a fork than to end up spilling dinner all over the table!

When I ate at Teppan Edo, they had the cheater kind of chopsticks too- they are connected so they are super easy to use-

Lol! I just see myself using connected chopsticks like tongs!

We ate at Teppan Edo last year and I was the only one without chopsticks. Even my DS5 ate with them :lmao:

It's ok to be chopstick-challenged.

Of course they have forks! Do you think your kids are the only ones who would only be able to eat like 2 bites if they were restricted to chopsticks? I'd let them play around with the chopsticks for a while, but I wouldn't expect them to eat the full meal without a fork. I can envision quite a mess on the table with kids trying to struggle through their first chopstick meal. Shouldn't be a problem to get a fork!

I'm eating there May 9th and will be using a fork. Yeah, just five more days.:cool1: It's the first meal of my upcoming trip.

I never realized that the benefit of growing up in Asia is... you learn how to use chopsticks!

Yes, you'll be fine if you ask for a fork. You won't be the first, and you certainly won't be the last... For some people, chopsticks are just tricky things!

If you DO ask for a fork when you're there, let me know if they laugh at you or take your picture, or put your name on some wall of shame there on public display. That way I'll know whether or not to ask for one when I'm there :)

I have no qualms about asking for a fork, especially when it comes to things like noodles or rice--I've never been publicly shamed yet. Except by the people sitting at my own table ;)

Hahahaha...you guys are cracking me up! OK, I'll ask for a fork along with the chopsticks. Make a valiant effort, but will not have to eat cold food, either.

And, food4me, I wasn't talking about my kids not being able to use chopsticks, I was talking about my lack of talent with them!!! :lmao:

We just ate at Teppan Edo a couple weeks ago for the first time. I've never used chopsticks before. We didn't even have to ask for forks - they simply gave the entire table a setting at the beginning of the meal, and also offered chopsticks. I was sitting next to a child who belonged to the other family sharing our table, and the hostess offered him "cheaters". I asked her if she would make them for me too, and she was more than happy to do it. I was really glad I did, because I was able to eat a little bit with the chopsticks (which I wouldn't have even attempted without the cheaters) and the rest of it with my fork - it was a fun experience!

Don't worry about them providing forks, but you should definitely ask for cheaters if you don't think you can figure out chopsticks - have fun!!
