Would I lose my reservation?

I have an August use year at AKV. I currently have a reservation for October 2012 in a VALUE studio using 2012 points. If I wanted to book an additional trip before August 2012, I would need to borrow those 2012 points and then subsequently borrow 2013 points for my October trip. Does MS just rearrange the points, or would I lose my value studio - i.e. that reservation would be cancelled and then given to the first person on the wait list for a value? Hope my question makes sense. Thanks.

I would think that they would cancel the original October reservation, and try to rebook using borrowed 2013 points. However, you are currently in your priority booking window, so what you want for October is likely still available.

One safe alternative would be to call and see if what you want for October is available, and book a duplicate reservation using borrowed 2013 points THEN cancel the original reservation, allowing those points to be borrowed into the 2011 August use year.

You'll have to ask. They MAY be able to reallocate the points to the existing reservations. There's a small chance you could lose it if they do it that way but not much. If you have to cancel and rebook, the risk is much greater. Chuck's suggesting is the best one IF it's available.

If you want to be able to use borrowed points for the Oct 2012 reservation, you can't have any 2012 points available when you go to do it.

Also, you can't book the August trip with 2012 points that are tied up in a reservation so if they are currently being used for the October reservation, they can not be used to book August without canceling that.

As suggested, what I would do is book a 2nd October trip using borrowed points first, then cancel and book August.

I will say that I had to do something similar last week--I had to cancel a SV studio at BLT so I could end up booking it with borrowed points--I wanted the current UY points associated with it to go for a Dec reservation.

Anyway, they didn't have SV available but only LV--I figured I would be losing it but did it anyway.

In the 10 minutes between cancelling the BLT SV studio, booking the Dec trip, and then re-booking that studio, the computer didn't claim my SV studio and I got it back.

So, there was either no one on a wait list or, it takes the computer longer than 10 minutes to snatch up a room for a wait list match.
