Would Columbus Day weekend be a nightmare?

Hi everyone,

We are looking to make a trip out west and I wanted to get some opinions on the week leading up to Columbus Day weekend. We would be flying home the Sunday of Columbus Day. Do you think places will be busier leading up to the holiday weekend? We are planning on starting in San Francisco and then driving down to LA and doing Disneyland the Friday before we leave, so this would be the "first day" of the holiday weekend. Bad idea? Should we pick a different date? We're somewhat flexible, but I think this would be the best time of year for us to go. Thanks!

No crowds should be normal on the week prior. Disneyland for only 1 day will be a terribly short visit.
