Would anyone notice...

This stopped being a "rule" about, oh, 30? 40? years ago.

anyone know why it was "a rule" to begin with? :confused3

That's not entirely true....I'm a native Georgian from Metro Atlanta, we (we as in my people and the people I most associate with) don't wear white after Labor Day or before Easter, even if it is 90 degrees and blazing. Our female relatives drill that in us from about the time we fall in love with our first pair of white patent leather church shoes, lol. ;) But Florida is a different kind of the south, white is appropriate there as long as the weather is appropriate. :goodvibes

Lordy, ain't that the truth! Mother is 90 and she'd rather someone see her naked than wearing white after labor day and before Easter. :rotfl::rotfl:

I gave that up years ago, though. I wear whatever I want whenever I want and feel really good about it too. But not when I'm going somewhere with Mamma.... :rotfl:;)

OP, enjoy yourself at Disney and wear whatever pleases you! I'm going in October and will wear white if I feel like it.

According to some historians, the wealthy people often packed up light summer clothes and vacationed away from the drabby city during the summer. Since it was so hot, they could afford lighter (whiter) summer clothes to wear and they would leave the poorer people in the city with their dark clothing. At the end of the summer, the light clothing was put away and they went back to darker clothes. :laundy:

Who makes up these rules anyway? I say go ahead and wear white! Or neon purple tie-dyed! Or whatever the heck you want! It's 2011, not 1954! Plus, you're never going to see these people again.
If it makes you feel beautiful, it's comfortable and you look great, go for the white!

So wearing white will make me look rich in summer? I would have never guessed the origins of this trend! If it is warm in Florida... then go for white! :thumbsup2

We just got back from our 1st vacation to WDW.... Where I seen 2 young women dressed as Minnie and Donald Duck I ran into them on 2 different days in the same exact outfits... Id say in Disney ANYTHING goes!
:hippie:

Only problem with white is water. Other than being aware of that you should wear whatever you want.

In the south we don't go by the calendar, we go by the weather. :thumbsup2
BTW, I'm a N.E. transplant so it was weird to me at first to see how the southerners dress.

I can imagine. When DH and I lived in the NE, we found it very strange how people dressed when the weather got hot. They just really don't know how to deal with it. . .it's like they strip down to the base layer, which is tight and skimpy. And sooooo wrong for hot weather!

OTOH, watching people wear parkas when the weather is just above freezing now seems very strange to us. I'm still wearing my MA "light spring/fall coat" in the Louisiana winter, and will likely only get rid of it when it becomes unfashionable, because I most certainly won't have worn it out! :)

Wow, didn't that 'no white Easter/Labor Day' thing go out long ago??? So all those who follow that rule thinking they are 'fashionable' are really 'outdated'...:lmao: Hasn't anyone heard of 'winter' white???
Anyway, I'm a native Georgian & wear what colors I want anytime of the year.

I don't disagree, the rule went away a long while ago when Winter Whites came on the scene, and even though I own plenty of it, I can't consciously wear it and still be the girl my grandmother raised, so I don't wear it much outside the rule (although I do have this gorgeous cashmere sweater dress that is white...it is too nice to leave hanging in my closet, so I do give it the attention it deserves). ;) My DDs though...they wear what they want in whatever color they want, they call me old fashioned, but that's okay, I'm still current enough to be seen with them. :lmao:

It's so silly to follow foolish fashion trends like that. Wear what you want & ignore what other people think. Someone made up that trend a long time ago & most people today have realized how stupid it was. There are so many stupid fashion trends being done hear after year. Fashion is always changing which is why I don't follow it. I laugh at other people that tell me what I should wear because it's "the latest trend".

But the whole point of "Winter White" (at least as orginally used) is that it is a slightly off-shade white, and thus appropriate for winter, whereas white-white is only for summer! That said, the white is ony for summer rule is long gone. I remember it was still a big deal when I was little, but by high-school (early 70's) it was fading out, and well gone by my later college years.

(And I am old and feeling older. When I was in high-school, a big topic of discussion among those of us who don't look good in white was how far off white you could get with your wedding gown and not have everyone in town assume you were a "loose woman". Now people discuss whether they should take their kids with them on their honeymoon!)

Blech..Wear what you want! Don't worry about what others think as long as you are happy!

If the worst thing we saw at Disney was someone dressed in white after Labour Day we would all be thrilled. I have come to the conclusion that people go to Disney with the mindset that it really doesn't matter what they wear. Wear what you want, no one will care! Now, that being said...I really wonder sometimes if there are mirrors in all hotel rooms...:confused3

DH is taking me for a four day weekend October 7 - 10th, and Saturday night we are having dinner at the California Grill for my birthday, then on to someplace to watch wishes, then later we are going for drinks someplace. Who would notice if I wore white pants in October? Huge faux pas to wear white after Labor Day at Disney??? :confused3

:scared1:The horror wearing white past Labot Day!! Shame on you!! just kidding. :rotfl: I wouldn't do it in a cold climate but in a hot climate its ok. Go for it.

OP, that new Tide commercial was made for YOU! Wearing white After labor is edgy and FIERCE, girl! LOL.

in florida, what is this 'fasheen' of which you speaK? It's dress for comfort...including crocs and sox coz if'n my feet ain't happy, nobody's happy. :rotfl:
