Worth the extra $1000 or not

We're a family of 5 that will be stuffed into a POR room (I know we'll probably be moving the Murphy bed mattress to the floor). We'll be staying for 5 nights before we set sail on DCL. This will most likely be our last family vacation, my oldest will be leaving for bootcamp shortly after we return. Should I move us to BC or CR to have more room for an extra $1000 or stay at POR for the savings. We will be using 1 maybe 1 1/2 days as a pool day at the resort (this is why we aren't staying at a Value Resort, boring pools).

I can tell you that we usually stay YC as our favorite hotel for our family of 5. We do use POR if we are trying to save money. However our last trip to POR the pools and the food areas we so crowded we could not enjoy them. We do spend alot of time hanging at the hotel and the pool. We were so disappointed that we have decided that on our future trips it's not worth saving the money to stay at POR. Now we can only travel at peak times, like summer, so I'm not sure if there are times when it is slower there. We love the extra space at YC and the fantastic pool. Even on the days where it's really crowded we have not had an issue with getting seats or not having space to swim. Plus having Epcot so close and the Boardwalk its a winner for us.

Good luck to you!! I vote for the BC!!

Have you considered a suite at AoA? That pool is FAR from boring. :goodvibes

Here's my take on the issue of "is it worth it"? We are a family that typically stays at value resorts, and are trying a deluxe for the first time in just 3 days! We are doing CL as well. :faint: It is costing us $2000 more than what we would spend at a value resort...is the extra $2000 going to be "worth it"....maybe...but we are just looking for a new experience, and are willing to splurge on this trip. We are celebrating our 10th anniversary. We fully intend on not spending nearly as much money on our trip next year....we will probably book an AOA LM room. ::yes::
We're lucky enough that the extra $2k is not breaking the bank...and we've come to the realization that our trip could always be cheaper, but for the experience that we are looking for, the price is what it is, so we are at peace with it.

If it won't pose a financial hardship I'd definitely recommend it! We have only spent one extended vacation in a moderate (POFQ) and our girls were younger. We still felt cramped and disliked the lack of balcony. Since then we have limited values and moderates to arrival night stay only. YC, GF, & CR are our favorite resorts.

I think it depends on how much you need the $1000. If it's money you feel comfortable spending, then I'd spend it. The BC has such a fantastic pool! I would definitely stay there if I knew I would be devoting a day to staying at the resort. If I thought it was going to be my last family vacation, I'd probably splurge on the resort...unless you think the money would be better spent on food, spending, or activities. Tough decision! Good Luck! :goodvibes

We had to make a similar decision this year. We chose to splurge because our 10 year anniversary only comes around once. I could easily have saved money by staying at a moderate, but we wanted to relax and enjoy the resort.

It's not going to break the bank, we're going at a non-peak time, we are only doing MK, AK, DHS and of course DTD (no Epcot this time) and if the pool doesn't have a slide we consider it boring (sorry that's just our opinion). We've only stayed at a value (when the kids were younger) or off property so either resort will be a step up for us.

That's my KIDS opinion as well and they are still young (<10). ;)

I say the AoA. I just booked there- and I could've gotten a GREAT deal on the CL at the BC. The pool is supposed to be great!

Since you aren't going to EP this time, save the money to have a few more expensive dinners with him since he is going to boot camp- and thank him for his service! Save the BC for his return. The rooms are bigger with a murphy bed, a sleeper sofa, and a queen bed in the bedroom.

Whatever you pick- enjoy it!

In the last few weeks (before the 2013 increased rates were posted), it was about the same to get two rooms at POR as it was to book one deluxe room on the monorail. That may be an option to give you more space, too. I price it every time and end up deluxe because I just love the location of those hotels. Even deluxe rooms get crowded with 4 if you spend time in the room; I can't imagine 5, expecially one kid that's practically an adult. But, I spend time in the room.

I just looked into that option, it comes out to be $100 cheaper for 2 rms at POR.

if you think that room will be small for 5 people how small do you think that cruise line cabin will be.

$1000? Id be staying where I am. that 1000 can be usefull for other things

We have 2 cabins booked for the cruise.

That sounds like the perfect solution to me. I'd rather have 2 rooms at POR than 1 room at a deluxe. 2 bathrooms, plenty of space and a slide.

If you are looking at pool days I'd book either BC/YC or the Poly.

Since the $1000 isn't going to break the bank I'd say go for the big bang since this is your last trip for awhile.

You are doing DTD and you are not doing Epcot...I'd stay in 2 rooms at PO. Take the boat to DTD, have 2 bathrooms and 4 beds!
Have fun and enjoy this trip with your family.

Can you actually move the murphy bed to the floor? I thought the mattresses were attached. The bed is also small. Will the smallest person be comfortable on the murphy bed?

Last year my 14 yr old daughter slept fine in the murphy bed but upon looking at pics I don't believe she could do it again. We are a family of 5 that stayed POR and while it was nice (because we were the first family in a refurb room there) if you are planning on spending time in the room it is quite small with 2 queen beds stuffed in there now. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it but if I could swing it, I would do a deluxe room or as others said AoA suite or 2 rooms. My girls are all teenagers and we survived just fine but we are rope drop/close the park people :).

Thanks for all the replies. You pointed out things to consider. I've heard the POR pool is good but when my 13 yr old son saw the layout of the bc's pool his mouth fell open. I do need to consider if the extra bed & bath are more important or the pool. I think we'll have to sit down & everyone decide. This should be a calm discussion.

For me BC would def be worth it. Awesome resort :thumbsup2
It is incredible, more room but also SAB , walk to two parks, lots of dining options, the boardwalk is right there as well.
Def worth it for me
