Worth it to become a DVC memeber?

Hmmm, the way things are looking the inflation has gone from 2% to 4%. Wonder where it'll be in 50 years? That is kind of scary.

Do you know where I could get the statistics on resort price increases over the same time period?

I think these inflation questions highlight how risky it is to make 30-40 projections when analyzing the finance of DVC. These calculations are all based on estimates. For some estimates, "close enough is good enough." But interest rates are tricky if you are going to compound them over 30+ years.

When looking at any sort of financial decision, I'm much happier looking at no more than 10 years. If I can show that DVC makes financial sense over a 10-year horizon (and for me, I can) then any benefit from years 11+ is just gravy. But if takes more than 10 years for things to make financial sense, that's too risky for me (for me - I'm extremely fiscally conservative.)

At the end of the 10 years, make sure you include the estimated market value remaining on the DVC contract vs. the zero equity you will be holding with the cash pay method. I agree beyond 10 years the projections are sketchy, but I think we can all agree that 10 years from now the DVC contracts will have a good chunck of market value remaining if not actual appreciation.

I know that many folks have posted about the cost vs convenience vs inflation vs staying on property or off. I have been a DVC member since early 1992. It is one of the best investments that I ever made [not including the price that I paid 15 years ago ;), which granted was a steal compared to today. :cloud9: :thumbsup2 ]
The value that I receive is from the opportunity to go back to WDW over and over again without having to worry about the cost of a hotel. Staying at a great resort (and yes I love OKW). Having a wonderful time. Oh yes and being able to enjoy other resorts (both Disney and non Disney) at WDW, DL and other places too. Being able to take friends and family on a nice trip. And best of all being a member of a great 'club'. DVCrs are the best no matter where I meet them-online, at work, at WDW or anyplace else. (And I have come across DVC members in many different places.) :goodvibes
When all is said and done the choice is yours. And those of us who are not only Disneyphiles but DVCrs will tell you that it is a wonderful way to relax, enjoy and still be a part of Disney. :lovestruc
Looking forward to greeting you as members!!
