Hey there one last question before we head out next week. I have been searching and searching and recently just found out mother in law is coming for 3 days of trip. She will not go to disney/parks with us and intends to hang around room, I feel a simple hotel room with two beds will be a bit much for me, honey daughter and her.

Found westgate lake resort and i can get a 2 bedroom villa for 89.00 a night includes 2 beds 3 t.v.'s washer dryer full kitchen and lots to do onsight as well cause mother in law loves bingo and they do that and such. Has anybody done it and are there any horror stories. It does say cant do it day in or day leaving but was thinking about booking it 2 days before we left do it tues and we leave first thing on thurs morn cause we did one and the cape here a few years ago and they still came to the pool and bugged us. Just needed an opinion before i went for it, only about 5.00 more a night maybe and way lots more to offer, at a very affordable rate.

PS we do have 2 hotels booked as of yet caribe royale for first three nights while Mother in law is with us and then moving to radisson for remainer but would switch if it is right for us.

I hated our timeshare speill and have heard that Westgate ones are the worst. My suggestion is to use skyauction because you could probably get that same condo for around $261 for the entire week.

Yep, i say use skyauction.com also. We used them this year and got our 2 bedroom condo for $261 and didn`t have to deal with the timeshare stuff!

Dh and I did Westgate Timeshare tour last year...I would not recommend it. We got the good rate on a room...they told us it had a full kitchen but it was a little sink, tiny microwave, and a tiny fridge. We checked in and got to our room and it was not very clean...we had to have them come and re-clean the bathroom as it was still dirty (and that is one thing I hate is to find hairs and nasty stuff in my shower!!). Then the next am we went to the timeshare presentation..they said 90mins. Dh and I knew we wouldnt be talked into it but wanted the free SeaWorld tickets!! They served a breakfast of danish and juices and we sat for awhile..someone came to us..then the tour started. The tour itself was 90mins (they drive you around in golf carts around the property and take you in and out of buildings)...THEN they take you to a room to try to get you to buy one. We told them we werent interested and the woman completely changed her tune..she became rude. The whole process lasted longer than 90mins..so beware if you do this. We did the earliest tour as we were going to SeaWorld and we didnt get out until almost 11am!!

We stayed that night and then went to WDW resorts for the rest of our trip. Being a timeshare there is no maid service unless you pay for it and when we checked out it was required that we strip the bed and put the sheets/comforter/blanket in the middle of the bed and all the towels in the bathtub.

There might be someone out there who enjoyed Westgate timeshare and maybe you would..but just my two cents..we surely did not.

Good Luck!

I'm one of the few that really loved Westgate Lakes. We stayed there 2 summers in a row. I rented a 2 bedroom. All two bedrooms comes with full kitchen, hot tub, etc. I personally enjoyed Westgate. We always got clean rooms, and everything promised to us. Parking can be a challenge after 9pm - but I think thats everywhere. The first year check in was slow (on a Friday 4pm check in time- we waited almost an hour). But we loved our room and was given $100 in meal vouchers for their on site restaurant for our wait - room was not ready. Last summer check in was extremely fast - like 10 minutes (there is a process - have to check in at one plance and get any vouchers offered and make appointment for presentation at another). The 2nd year we checked in on a Sunday around 6pm. I recommend staying as far away from the restaurant as possible (old rooms - I think some are occupied by staff members.) If you don't mind a pool view ask for it, but keep in mind its a family resort, so it can be a little noisey. First year we had a pool view (3rd floor) a little noisey at night, but it got me excited about getting in the pool. Second year I requested not to be near one, and walked a little ways to get to a pool. I kind of wished we were near one because of that walk.

So if you ask me, I would say reguest a room that is a pool view, bottom room (if you want a walk out balcony), and I think you'll be pleased. The rooms looks actually like their website down to the bedspreads: Westgate Lakes

It sounds like chicknoodle99 got a studio room. The lakes does not have a 1 bedroom unit, but other westgate properties has them.

Now I'm not going to sugar coat the presentation, its horrible, but my DH and I have come up with sure tips to ensure 90 minutes. Read carefully, and I promise you can get thru it.

Here are my tips that get us in out within and sometimes under 90 minutes:

1. NEVER EAT THEIR BREAKFAST/lLUNCH/DINNER!!!! Almost always they offer SOME KIND of meal. Your presentation time does not begin until AFTER you finish your meal/coffee, etc. So while you eat, or drink that time DOES NOT COUNT!!!!

2. If you already know what resort your touring, do some research on it!!!! Find out how much "resale" prices are - off of different websites. And most importantly BRING IT WITH YOU!!! Nothing gets under their skin more than an "educated" buyer. Some will say not to buy from other resellers because you loose the resort "star" treatment!!! I simple say, "I wouldn't want to buy from a company who does not treat ALL its owner with the FULL respect they deserve"!!!!! Just because SOME buyers have sense enough not to end up paying 17% in interest and pay 50%-70% less they should be punished!!!

3. DON'T BE AFRAID OF BEING RUDE!!!!! Some people are afraid to be rude to people who have no problems being RUDE to them!!! I have gone so far as to bring materials to read!!! A friend of mine laid her head down and went to sleep (AFTER A FEW HOURS OF BEGGING from the Salesman)!!!!!! Our first presentation lasted well over 4 hours!!! TRUST ME BE RUDE!!!!!

4. If you know for sure that your not interested in buying (obsolutely sure) and you didn't eat their food - make it CLEAR from the beginning that you have to pick up your family or friend at the airport within 2 hours!!!! - Stretch the truth maybe!!! :sunny:

5. If you have been thru a presentation before tell them you have!!! That way you don't have to go thru that speech of how good of an investment the timeshare is, and how much money you'll be saving. BLAH BLAH BLAH!! :listen:

6. If you have ANY complaints about the property (particularly if you are staying on that site). Bring a list of every reason why you would not buy from that property.) :snooty:

7. Show your disinterest in your face. These people are trained to "pick up" on those interested. Let me give you an example. My first tour was at Westgate (VERY HARD SELL - if you can survive a Westgate presentation you can survive any of them), anyway, A friend of mine (who had their presentation before ours) bought a Timeshare there ( a 2-bedroom) for around $13,000. The next day, when we had our presentation, the same 2 bedroom lock out was offered to us at $7500. Because we really were not interested and the price kept getting lower. Last year we were offered a 2 bedroom at Westgate Tower for $5000 (we were almost tempted!!!) If you look on ebay right now I'm sure someone is selling a 2 bedroom (at Westgate Lakes) for every bit of $3000. You do the math!!!!

8. If you are doing a timeshare at a world wide chain like Marriot or Starwood, they are usually low pressured but still do your research!!!! - HIGHER end Timeshares are extremely expensive - more expensive than Disney DVC.

9. Let them know that you are maxxed out financially (including credit cards) and have NO means for a down payment!!! NO ONE will let you leave without some kind of down payment.

10. If they get you to buy and you immediately realize (after leaving the parking lot) that you don't want it or can't afford it. Immediately send your letter to the resort within I believe 3-4 days (it could be more or less) to cancel because after that grace period - ITS GOING ON YOUR CREDIT REPORT!!!!

11. If you don't own a home yet you have to perfect excuse, Why would I buy vacation property before a home, I must prioritize and right now its not even a option!!!

12. If you have children, BRING them!!!! Children especially impatient ones (that includes about 99.9% of them)!!!! Let them cry, encourage temper tantrums, and most importantly let the toddler future track star (you know the one that keeps running away from ya) Let them do their thing!!!! 99% of timeshare let you bring your children (they are usually on vacation in orlando right) so they provide a place for them to play. Don't let them go!!! Let them bug the heck out of you, and the presenter. It rushes the presentation - Trust me!!!!

Sounds like a lot, I know - but still it can be worth it, if the stay is nice. I have a friend and her husband who get a kick out of getting something for "nothing" (if time is nothing). While in Orlando last year they bragged about their $200 cash in 3 hours ($66.66 an hour doesn't sound so bad now does it!!) Their presentations NEVER went over 90 minutes. They did Tip #4 and said they had to pick up her mother at the Airport. Each time leaving with $100 bills. Another friend of mine did a presentation recently for (4) 4 day disney hoppers for $125 a piece!!!! Hope this helps !!!! - Also, you can only do so many presentations in so many days - your name goes in some system and you'll be locked out of presentations - JUST A THOUGHT!!!!

I hope this helps:space:

Any idea how to do a Marriott time share? We were offered at one time $100 Marriott Gift Cheque for a presentation but did not have time to go. Any ideas how to hook up with one like that this time?

Hi, we did west gate lakes about 5 years ago. It was horrible. My DH was so mad after the whole thing it kind of put a damper on the vacation. They said 90 min. well it ended up being 1/2 the day wasted. Once you say No they wil not let you go. You have to keep fighting with them to get your free tickets. And they are not very nice. A totally awfull experience! The condos are very old too. We will always pay the extra money now.

We have done Marriott, but they sent us a post card is how we found out about it. I am not sure how they got our name because it came in my DH's name and he is not a member of any hotel program, FF plan or anything you need to sign-up for. I would do another Orlando Marriott one but they keep sending us Arizona golf ones and thats not someplace we want to take the kids to.

I go on vacation to escape the madness, not to find it. Nothing is free in life, at least anything good. Any business that has to sell their product with such high pressure methods, tells me that their product will not stand on its merits. The reason they offer such "good" incentives (i.e. cash, park tickets, etc) is it works. People buy it that would have never considered otherwise (without the incentives to see the presentation).

When I am traveling on vacation my time is worth something. It is hard to vacation at WDW for much less than $600 per day for my family (total of four) when you include everything (travel, food, tickets, meals, etc). It is costing me (the entire family) about $25 per hour. So, if we waste a 3 or 4 hours at a timeshare presentation for a $100 gift (that seems to be about the average value of the incentives). We would just about break even from a cost perspective. That leaves nothing for my "pain and suffering" of attending the high pressure pitch.

My only advice is, know what you are getting yourself into and your time is valuable, especially on vacation.

I am new to this board and was just contemplation doing this presentation. We will be visiting WDW for the first time after 15 years of being DL passholders. I have a family of 5 and this will be the most expensive vacation we have ever taken.
I just wanted to say thanks for the info here. We are now looking to use SkyAuction for the same condo, we are planning to stay at Westgate because we have friends who will be there also.
Thanks for all the info on this board! I have quickly become addicted.

The sales people are generally pushy, and don't want to take no. Some criticize your priorities, ability to budget, concern for your family's needs, .etc. It is an experience I've choseno not to repeat because of the nastiness.

I LOVED WESTGATE LAKES!!!! The rooms are great and the ammenities are even better. They had games and activities by the pool everyday. They also had a continental breakfast by the pool each morning. I don't know if they still do this or not. I stayed there and booked a 2 BR villa for 89.00 p/n without taking the tour b/c there was a coupon in the entertainment book. I've toured MANY timeshares in Orlando and I'm very good at saying no. Some tours are worse than others. Westgate is a pain! If you put in your time, watch your clock and GET UP at the end of 90 minutes.
Personally, I would try to book it w/out taking the tour if possible. My kids and my parents LOVED it there!

Last summer we went to dw and was staying onsite. We were there for 2 weeks, had our car and decided to look into the MOWC. While we were walking in the lobby a women was at a desk and caught my attention. She talked me into a timeshare presentation for the next morning. Being we had time, we went. It took around 2 hrs. total. Although we weren't interested in buying, the place that we toured was beautiful. I think it was The Marriott Grand, or something like that. They took us by van. Me, my dd and dh. When it was all said and done, no pressure at all, they gave us $100.00 food voucher to spend at any restaurant in the Marriiott World Center and a choice of either reward points for the marriott or 3 one day tickets to the MK that don't expire. We chose the tickets and had a nice lunch. So for us it was worth it.

I love reading your tips :)

My DH and I loved coming up with them!!!!!

My parents own timeshare through RCI and often allow my DH and I to use it for our vacations. Last year we stayed at Westgate. Usually we stay at Vistana. We were pressured into the 90 minute presentation, but we were fortunate enough not to have to go into the models since I told our "guide" that we were not interested. Growing up, I had sat though MANY of these presentations with my family. We were also fortunate enough to have a VERY easy going "guide" from Austraila who just asked us to sit and go through the spiel so he would get credit with his boss. The presentation was a little longer than 90 mins, and my DH had to put his foot down a few times with the boss lady. We had gone for a lovely, care-free vacation, and had it interupted by the sales pitch. Also, keep in mind that we NEVER had to sit through a spiel at Vistana. I agree with the person who said a true resort/business should never have to sell itslf!

I am a dvc member at SSR and this is the only was to go!! Last trip in June, going in Oct for F&W, then again in may! Could not live without my DVC!!

While Westgate is very lovely and has nice amenities and the NEWER units are very nice, it is not worth 1/2 a day in my opinion. We were guaranteed the 90 min tour (I checked this a couple of times since we had our then 3yo and 6yo) and we new they would want to get to the parks. We got the earliest time (7 or 7:30 I believe) so we would be out right when the parks opened. Well we didn't get out until after 10:30 and as others posted they become extremelly rude when you are not interested. By the end of our "tour" I was encouraging the little ones to be a bit grouchy so that it would get on the sales persons nerves as much as it was getting on mine. While I know "nothing is free" when you tell someone that 90 min is 90 min then that is your committment and mine so lets stick to it. To me the 90 min is the pitch then once you are there you are stuck for a while. I have done a few of these prior to my WG experience and after this I will NEVER do another time share again. My time is more valuable than anything they have to offer me!
