Worth doing DDP for one day?

Here's the deal. My friend is giving us a week in her timeshare, off-property, which will have a full kitchen. We decided to extend our stay one night and are trying to decide whether it's worthwhile to stay on-site and if we do, whether or not to do the Dining Plan.

It is me, DH, and DS who will be just shy of 5. It would only be one night so is it worth staying at ASMo, doing the DDP, and thus enjoying the free parking and the extra hours (which will be Epcot that night)? I've seen a rate of $65 on AAA.com for the room alone and I could, I assume, book through them and get the DDP as well, right? Or do I need to go through Disney itself unless I'm buying the whole schlemiel (air, car, theme park tickets and full hotel stay) from AAA?

I hope I'm making sense. We want to do some other stuff while we're in FL so we are planning on the 4 day base tickets from Maple Leaf Tickets (which give you a free fifth day)...that should be sufficient.

So, on-site or off? DDP or no?

Any input welcome...this is my first post, hope it's in the right place!

If you stay 1 night at ASMU you would also have to purchase 1 day MYW passes for everyone and the ddp. Also it will probably change the rate of the room as then it is not Room only at $65. So I would say no it will cost you more this way. I would stay on site but not do the DDP for that day.

I agree with monami7 - to get the DDP you have to purchase a package with at a least a one day base ticket for everyone in your party, and since you'll already have tickets you wouldn't need that expense UNLESS you wanted to add the no expiration offer on the tickets and keep them for your next trip :goodvibes

OK, thanks. Does staying onsite still make sense? I haven't found much cheaper places than $65 anyway, and I figure even if we have to buy breakfast we'll save on the parking so it should balance out. Right?

Although...ASMo still doesn't have free Internet, does it?

If we DID decide to stay off-site, is LBV better than Kissimmee, bearing in mind that we will probably do Epcot on our last day?

Thanks,
Rachel

After years of staying all over the place we only stay onsite now. We love the busses and the Disney feel. 1 day at a disney hotel is better than none.

Actually, I've gone to the Disney website and out of curiosity put in ONE night at a Disney Resort with a 4 day base ticket and DDP and it has priced that for me. I don't remember how now but if we did get our tickets as part of hte package, it would seem that we could do anything we want. The DDP is only for the nights we are at the resort but we can get any tickets we like as long as they're through Disney. So that's why I was wondering if it is worth doing for one day.

I think this would be a good idea as long as your ASMu stay is at the beginning of your trip and not the end. I don't think you can get your park tickets before check in. You also wouldn't be getting that free 5th day from Maple Leaf, but you still might make out with getting 5 day base tix, depending on how much you save on the dining plan.

i thought the base ticket was good forever as long as you didn't use it at the park. Why would you no expire it if it is good forever if unused. This was my plan for the ddp and ticket this september. Was i misinformed my the cm when booking?

You are correct.. any unactivated ticket is good forever until it's activated. You can keep it until you need it, or upgrade it anytime in the future.
