Worst untruths inexperienced WDW people say...

My biggest pet peeve is people who call the Magic Kingdom "Disney" as in,

"We spent the whole day at Disney on Thursday & Friday and then went to Epcot on Saturday"

It drives me crazy!!!!

Well, that's not as bad as some things. The first time I went to Disney World, that was true. There was only the Magic Kingdom, nothing else.

The absolute worst advice I've heard was a family who were going Christmas-New Year's week because they were told that no one vacations during that time. :scared1:

I swear I tried my best to talk the mother out of it and explain about the Disney calendar, but there was no convincing her.

Funny, she never mentioned their trip to me at all after they came back. Think she was scared I'd say "I told you so." ?? :rolleyes1

Did they talk to my MIL?! They went on their one and only trip to DW like 20years ago on Christmas day and she says the parks were empty. I believe that back then that was the case but no amount of talking will convince her that nowadays it's the busiest time of the year. So she still goes around telling people that Christmas time is the best time to go. :headache:

Thank goodness, everyone I associate with has BEEN to WDW at least once. And even those that were there only once as kids 25+ years ago understand that things have changed and will be willing to listen to me when they are ready to go again with their own kids in the future.

WDW and the Orlando area is a BIG place with lots to do, and things have changed a lot over the years, so I get not knowing everything or remember doing "Disney World" in one day back when "Disney World" was just MK, two hotels and a camp ground. But what I don't get is people's resistance to speaking to people that have been more recently and learning from their experiances. That just baffles me.

I'm with you! This makes me NUTS!!

I took my daughters beginning when they were under 1 year old. When someone would say "they won't remember" I would tell the person, no but I will.

Luckily most of my family are big Disney fans and we go down together.

Or how about the people that think going to WDW is not affordable & decide to instead travel to Hawaii :confused3

:

I can see this one actually at least for me. I go to WDW once a year and I love it, but I can honestly say that our trip to a 4 star resort in Maui was cheaper then any of our WDW trips. My last DL trip was a little cheaper then Maui, but not by much.

I hear it all the time...we went once and seen it all (we have gone for the last 13 years and haven't seen it all!!!) OR "my kids just aren't into Disney". OR "If we go to Disney we are going to do it right" Grand Floridian or bust??? So they never get enough $ saved to go. The other great line is we aren't taking the kids until they are old enough to remember it...DH and I have the greatest memories of DD at 4 waiting for the characters to sign her autograph book, she could barely stop from jumping up and down. Then on our last day, DH was video taping the hotel and she said "I don't want to go home" We said "we'll come back, I promise" AND we have have kept that promise!!! Now I feel quilty that she hasn't seen much of the real world as my SIL likes to say. She's into the educational trips! What, Epcot is not edcational????:confused3 When she was 6, Grandma took her out for Chinese and DD was telling her about all the countries she went to at Epcot, the lady at the next table stopped on their way out and said "you must be a world traveler". We keep saying we will do something different, but DD at 15 still wants to go and so we force ourselves (hahaha)!

5 biggest Disney Lies I've Heard:
  1. You can use an extra day on your ticket to park hop.
  2. AAA Parking Pass = Free Parking
  3. I don't need to make ADRs, I'll just decide where to eat when I get there.
  4. The Swan and Dolphin are Disney hotels.
  5. Fastpass is only for guests staying in a Disney Resort.

A coworker didn't want to stay onsite because the rides would keep him away.

I heard a lady ask at the Epcot monorail station which train goes to Universal.

We are going over Spring Break to Hawaii, staying Oceanfront in a 5 star hotel, Club level, for less than a standard view non-club room at a Disney deluxe hotel. And we don't need to buy park tickets.

I live in an area of the country where summer temperatures are over 100 and often over 110.

So my favorite is when people here plan on going to WDW in the summer and think that because it's hot here and they are used to it, they'll be fine in Orlando.

Yes, people, it's called HUMIDITY.

A question from guest to a CM we heard while we're walking down Main Street

"When will Main Street USA be right in front of the castle again?"

For some reason they must've thought the whole park rotates?

I've also heard people say you have to pay for Fastpass.
I've actually heard of some people that didn't even KNOW about fastpass!:scared1:

Other unthruths:

After I told someone about the room discounts that were better than free dining. "Oh I already booked my package with free dining so I can't change it."

Wheelchairs and scooters will get you to the front of the line. Years ago we were in line to meet Pooh, Eeyore and Tigger at AK. There was a grumpy old lady with her family that included a little boy all standing behind us in line. The line was long and in one of those covered shelter things by the old boat launch things that used to be in AK. She started ramming her scooter through the crowd, leaving her family behind, saying "Excuse me, I'm in a scooter I need to move forward....":sad2:

You're closer than a lot of people if you live in CA, our planes tickets were $850 plus EACH! Once in HI the food is expensive and you pay for everything you do, tours etc. so it's like buying park tickets.

I'll admit that I'm still guilty of that.......... probably because of deeply imbedded childhood memories- but it feels kinda wrong to me to call it the MK- I know it's proper name is MK- but .........somehow to me Disneyworld feels more natural...LOL

I do this sometimes too, but it is because we moved from SoCal where Disneyland is still Disneyland, not Magic Kingdom.

I had a lady ask me for my advice and then tell me my suggestions sounded like "way too much work." and she said she would rather wing it.

She came back and told me they did very few rides because the lines were "literally 7 HOURS long" and she was SURE because a CM told her!

I tried to correct her and explain that they most likely talking about the wait for fast passes (from the time you get them until you can use them) but she insisted it was the actual ride line and so they paid an ENORMOUS amount of $$ to do very little.

See... I just don't get that! I was looking forward to the heat the whole time while waiting for our trip. Though I did worry about the humidity and all the posts of "dripping with sweat" (eewww). This was mid-to-late Sept BTW.

But I only had that issue *once* (Jedi Training area) in 10 days!! The rest of the time it was wonderful. I never felt sweaty, worried about changing clothes, I was even able to breathe better than I can at home! :goodvibes

Until the darn A/C did me in... A/C makes me sick. My body seems to hate cold air blowing on me.

I can't wait to go back!

the cost aspect gets me too. People don't go because they think it costs too much. Now, it isn't cheap. But every time I try to price going someplace else for a week....such as NY or DC, or some other big city....WDW honestly comes out cheaper! Can't say that for DL or the cruise line, because those are more. But people only spend too much because they don't know how to plan. I have friends that didn't understand that because the hotel claimed it was a downtown disney hotel that it wasn't actually a disney hotel. They almost didn't arrange for any transportation from the airport thinking they could catch the magical express.

All this being said, I do have to give newbies a break, because it is all overwhelming trying to plan a trip. There is so much information to know, and I take it for granted because I am a WDW freak. But the part I don't understand is why people won't believe you when you try to correct them.
