That has always been our worst fear as our parents have gotten older. 51 seems awfully young for something like this to happen. I am so sorry to hear about her passing. And even more sorry that it happened while you were away. It is so fortunate that your DH had the opportunity to talk with his mom before her passing.

Thank you all so much!! I hope some of you will get some comfort from my trip report. It's helping me a lot. She was such an amazing person. I was so blessed to know her for the last eight years.

51 is much too young, but we were lucky to have her that long. I don't think i detailed this before. When she was 17, she had all her teeth pulled, b/c the enamel was already gone. She had a heart attack in her 20s, a kidney transplant in her 30s (due to diabetes). Multiple miscarriages, and they lost one baby shortly after he was born. For the last 4 years she had been in the hospital a lot more than normal with weird things. She had the kidney for 22 years, which is a long time I guess. She was a Social Worker with hospice. She touched so many lives in the short time she was here. Heaven just needed another angel.

Give your husband a special hug for us! My husband lost his mother while we were away also and I have felt that a double loss in some ways!
