Worst National Anthem ever

The guy singing was alright, the arrangement was just weird. And it was awkward with the other guy trying to jump in and sing with the mic too.

I didn't think it was all that bad :confused3 And it's not like they were trying to be disrespectful or anything, unlike Roseanne.

In all honesty, I wish pop stars/celebrities would just realize that singing the National Anthem is NOT about them and they should simply sing the melody as written. No weird trills, vocal gymnastics or kooky arrangements. If you really want to hear an amazingly wonderful rendition, try to find a recording of Huey Lewis and the News singing it around 1984 or 1985 from either a Giants game or the All Star game. Beautifully arranged for 5 voices, performed acapella with the melody shining through. I have never heard anyone do it better.

Found it:

I Have never understood why people feel they can change an anthem?? The US anthem has been crucified by many people and we are now seeing our Canadian anthem being changed in the same way.

The anthems were written in a specific way and shouldn't be changed.

For those of you who think it's not that bad or even sounds good, do you at least hear the wrong notes? Personal preferences aside, and even particular song aside, and opinions on the band aside - there is no denying that several of the guitar chords in there are completely out of tune with the rest of the band :confused3.

I still think it was a mistake (or possibly bad playing), but there is no way that is exactly how they meant to play it. Like someone said - it doesn't seem like they were trying to pull a Roseanne. It had to have been an error on the guitarist's part. I'm sure his family/friends were cringing for him when they heard it through their TVs. Heck - I'm embarrassed for him.

For those who don't know where the "wrong notes" are, listen to the guitar at:

:59
1:07
1:14
1:21
1:29
1:37

It's the same chord every time. Either the guitarist didn't have a monitor and couldn't hear his mistakes, or it was truly the most horrifying arrangement of our national anthem that I've ever heard.

Yup, the guitar was off, big time, and there didn't seem to be any attempt to correct it. Like so many others have stated, pop entertainers simply should not attempt to sing the National Anthem. It is not a pop song.
