Worst Monirail Incident Ever!

Way back when they used to have E-nights at the magic Kingdom my wife and I got stuck in the monorail for about twenty minutes. They were having some sort of electrical probelms on the lne and we got stuck between mk and the contemporary. Now its the beginning of June so the nights are a bit steamy and pair that with it being 2am and its a bad mix. Just to make the whole experience more enjoyable we get the pleasure of being stuck with the loudest most obnoxious group of people who feel it would so funny to yell and scream how we are going to be stuck here forever or how we are going to fall off the rail. We actually had tickets to do another e-night during our stay and got our money back for the those tickets.

I have to tell of our bad experience on the monorail. This happened in January of this year. We were first in line to ride the monorail and there was no CM at the gate. When the monorail arrived, we went to the front of the monorail and asked the driver if we could ride in the front of the monorail. We noted that there was no one inside at the time. The driver told us no without any explanation and when I asked why, he walked away from us. We were baffled and disappointed to say the least.

My worst monorail trip was not as bad as many on this board. One time when my daughter and I were on with only 1 other family, they changed their toddler's soiled diaper right on the seat. Phewwww! The whole car smelled. The poor unsuspecting people who sat on the seat after we all got off!

:sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

The behavior the OP noted from the pregnant lady is virtually inexcuseable...

Except to say that sometimes when a person is pregnant.. the hormones lead to all kinds of emotion that is generally not the norm for that person. So.. perhaps she was being a bit emotional because of a bad day and then add to that the hormones of preganancy.. it can be overwhelming.

Still.. she shouldn't have gone off on you like that.

Sorry for your experience but I am the Queen of the One Line ComeBacks to Rude People. One I would have used here - "I'm sorry, I thought the Earth revolved around the sun and not you, pardon me for my mistake". That would have embarrassed the heck out of her and probably gotten you a few snickers from the other people in the car. And you would not have been rude to her.

I love that line and must remember that!

hann - sorry for your bad experience, but we've had our share too. Most folks are nice (for the most part) so don't let that one stop you from having a great time.

One of our bad monorail experiences happened this past December. We had an ECV and when we got to our destination (Grand Floridian) the conductor helped us off and as my husband was trying to roll the EVC off the monorail folks were filing past him as fast as they could. It was funny (for me because I couldn't believe people were acting so rude). They all had this expression like "no way is that EVC getting in front of me!" Even after the conductor tried to stop folks so that my DH could pass by (they just went around him). What lady said "hey watch my toes." (even though the EVC wasn't near her toes) I yelled at DH "roll over them - she was asked to wait." Her kids started to laugh at her (because they had waited).

Then (after our visit) when we were boarding onto the monorail (from the Grand Floridan) folks were trying to get in front of our EVC and into the handicap area where the conductor told us to wait. And they kept looking at us like we were wrong for being there! Finally the conductor came over and asked us if they were in our party and I told him no they weren't, he asked them to move and put them in the next car.

some folks are just funny! :rotfl2:

I think you had every right to get on that monorail with your family and no one has the right to just cut in line. Pregnant or not pregnant, someone can always offer a seat once on the monorail, I only hope she doesn't teach her new baby that cutting is something that is right.

I've had experiences with very pushy grumpy people on the monorail. I'm thinking geez people you're at Disney world lighten up! I just roll my eyes and brush it off, not worth letting Mr/Ms. Grumpy Gills mess up my fun!:lmao:

Oh and what makes me crazy is the people like right at park closing who stop in the first waiting area for the monorail while hundreds of people are stuck waiting behind them like the own the place. Some people don't really understand move all the way down!

To make matters worse, I was a young teenager and my dad mortified me by making faces like he was swimming in a fish tank and saying help me! to the people standing in line to board the monorail... guess he was trying to make them laugh, but I was so embarrased!

Greatness!!! :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

Just for future reference - as the driver is responsible for the safe operation of a specific monorail, she/he can refuse to allow Guests in the front car and does not have to provide a reason.

General/life observation (mine, not Disney's or any monorail CM's): If you say "No", that leaves no room for discussion. If you say, "No because...", well, that gives the other party the opportunity (not the right) to dispute the response.
"No, it's too windy"
"Oh, no, we don't feel any wind".
or
No, there are no seat cushions"
"We'll sit on our folded sweatshirts".
or
"No, I need all this space to maneuver the brake"
"No problem, we'll sit pressed against the back wall".

or
"No, you may not". Period.

Haven't had a bad monorail experience BUT I actually had a woman a church scream at me at the end of the Easter mass, because I supposidly stepped in front of her. I had no recollection of doing anything to her, but she made a point to push her way to me and yell at me. I was stunned, and then as she walked away, I said "Happy Easter to you too".

CHURCH for crying out loud! :scared1: :lmao:

Back when they had the old monorails some friends of ours were on their honeymoon. THey old monorails had doors that had to be shut by had. Long story short, my friends wife gets hit in the head. The reult was a few stitiches and a concussion. Disney did compe their entire stay though.

During out last trip my son and I were a waiting for the monorail with a few other people.

When it arrived we entered a door with a preteen and her grandparents. As my son and I entered the doors, the girl raced in front us. She gets to the seat and puts her leg up to hold the bench for her grandparents.

My poor son was shocked.:scared1: He just stood there for a second or two looking from the goofy girl to me.

I finally looked at the girl and said "Excuse us!"(I didn't use my nice voice:sad2:)

The grandmother gave me the evil eye and replied." There's enough room for all of us!" (she didn't use her nice voice:upsidedow)

I don't know what made Goofy Girl race in front of us, then block the seat so that we couldn't sit down. There's plenty of room on those benches for 5 people.

I think the three of them were shocked that I said something instead of just letting it

Not that this is a terrible incident but I am curious about something that happened during our last trip. Before boarding the monorail at the GF I took a picture of my daughters standing with the monorail behind them. A CM approached me a very sternly told me that I was not allowed to take a picture there. I wasn't aware that this was a rule and I looked at the CM to see if he was maybe joking but he never changed his expression. I apologized and left but I have wondered if this is indeed a rule. Is anyone aware of this or know why you can't take pictures by the monorail?

Our experiences with the monorail weren't bad, but we did have 1 incident while we were there for our hunnymoon in October. I was using an ECV for a foot injury and was in one of the wheelchair accessible cabins. Anyway, another wheelchair needed to come in, so I pulled my ECV as far forward as possible (front of the ECV was touching the doors on the other side).

We take the trip & arrive at the destination station (sorry, can't remember just which one it was). The CM's had placed the ramp to allow us out of the cabin so that the person behind me could semi-easily get out first. No problem. Then it's my turn. Now, if you've ever had the dubious "pleasure" of driving an ECV, especially after having been in it for what seems like forever, you're aching & likely can't turn your head or back completely to see exactly 180 degrees behind you. I turned, checked the position of the ramp, & started to back up to pull out. Unfortunately, as I am moving, relatively quickly (don't want to get "stuck" on a bump in the floor that I'd noticed on the way in), the CM decides to be "helpful" & moves the ramp on me. I can't hear it, & because I was certain of my angles from the beginning, I don't turn around to see it. So I start off the ramp, & manage to do it at an angle, so that I almost overturn. Then the CM actually complains at ME for it! :scared1:

All in all, NOT what I'd call a magical experience, despite how much I do enjoy the monorail. Still, I definitely would ALWAYS prefer the monorail to the buses, anytime!

Asta, to answer your question about taking pictures, on our trip in August, DH was on a "quest" to get pictures of each of the different colored monorails. So, we took pictures all over the place. Maybe you were just standing in an area that was blocking an entrance or something to that effect. Sounds like the CM could have been a little nicer about it though - after all you were only taking a picture! As far as "incidents" go, I almost had an embarassing one on our last trip. We had just eaten dinner at Concourse and we were on our way to MK for the evening. So, we get on the monorail - it was crowded so DD8 and I were in one car and DH and 3 kids were somewhere else. We pull up to Polynesian and my DD8 is bouncing up and down saying she has to go to the bathroom. I tell her we're almost at MK, just hold it. Well, by the time we got to GF, she was just about crying because she had to go so bad. So, we jump off, I call DH cell phone and tell him we got off, we run into GF and ask for bathroom. Luckily, we made it on time! That would have been pretty embarassing!

I had a similar incident at Test Track. We were going from the regular queue part to the part where you wait to get in the briefing rooms. The lady in front of us was going SO SLOW and we just naturally go fast, so we bypassed her, as did a few other people, as there was no longer a real "line". OH BOY. She then got in between my mom and dad & I. And she wouldn't move because my mom "cut" her in line. Come on, how old are you?? She made me mad so I was just like, "ok, so you're going to prevent her from joining her family because she "cut"? come on." So then she let my mom by but not without some more griping. WTH. Really. What adult throws a fit because someone "cut" her in line. Just because you go slow (which is fine) doesn't mean that we have to as well. She was really acting like a child.

Pregnant or not, she needed a good berating in her face.

>>> worst ... ever

I'm glad I wasn't on the monorail (read about the incident some years ago) that got stalled between stations high above ground and the air conditioning stopped and and people had to either swelter on board or climb down ladders.

There's this group called Action America down in Houston; they have been complaining that Houston should have put in a monorail instead of a trolley line. I mentioned the preceding in one of their forums. Do a Google search for "wham bam tram".

My sister was on that monorail! OMG she will not go back to Disney because of that. She said that coupled with a couple other minor insidents that happened on the trip turned her off form Disney for good...now me nothing could happen that would turn me off for good.

My dh affectionaly or not so affectionally calls the monorail the P&P - the poop and powder because he swears that it smells like baby poo and baby powder. I don't always smell but I have noticed it a few times. I have a 17 month old and could not imagine changing her on the monorail...
