Worse for Motion Sickness...Aerosmith or Everest?

I have bad motion sickness and RNR has never bothered me. It's one of my favorite rides since I can't ride most coasters. I haven't tried EE and Star Tours :crazy2:. No way I'll get on that again.

IMO you should avoid both EE and RNR if you have motion sickness, both are fast-moving thrill rides with drops, sharp turns, moments of zero gravity, in the case of EE there is a backwards motion part and in the case of RNR there are multiple inversions which take you upside down.

For me it is EE - I once did the old technicolor yawn after riding (but the gardens outside gift shop needed some fertilizer anyways). I take motion sickness pills now before riding.

RnRC has always seemed incredibly smooth to me. Also it seems to have bigger loops but Everest goes backwards. But doesn't RNRC go upside down? Wish I could tell ya but I get motion sickness in cars but never roller coasters. Has to do with where my vision is focused. I think being in darkness helps.

Obvs not a disney ride for comparison but Harry Potter is the only ride that ever made me motion sick.

I'm always fine on rollercoasters and simulators like star tours, but man that one even made my hubby feel ill.

Wish I understood why exactly.

I never realized before reading this thread, how lucky I am that Star Tours does not bother me one little bit. As an aside, will that mean that when I eventually go visit Universal that hopefully I will do fine on the simulator rides? I also do just fine on Test Track and Big Mountain Thunder Railroad and Dinosaur so if these are considered rough rides, I am okay with them. I have not yet ridden the other coasters at Disney. I prefer simulator rides to coasters.

I also do great on Soarin but it makes my dh queasy.

Roller coasters Do make me motion sick, but with my transdermal scop patch, i can ride everything with no problems.

Everest. I have no problem with RNRC, and I can't do Star Tours, teac cups, and the like. The dark helps, I think. I would compare it to SM for motion sickness.

Oh, I forgot about SM... I won't get on that one again! It made me really sick, but I think it was the jerking around in the pitch black that did it. On RNRC you have signs and stuff to look at, and there seems to be just enough light that you can kind of see what's coming. I couldn't see hardly anything on Space :(

I won't even attempt RnR, but Expedition Everest really made me feel motion sick. As I always say "When that train went whippy-whirly backwards, my tummy went whippy-whirly too. It was about 3 hours before my stomach felt close to normal again.

I feel sick after I get off Everest. I tried it 2 years in a row and it made me feel sick both times. I do take some medicine for motion sickness everyday before I leave for the parks. This year I am trying one of the sea bands for motion sickness. Hope it works!!

Thanks everyone!! I think I will give RnR a try and probably skip Everest. Sadly I can't take Dramamine (even the non-drowsy) because everything makes me sleepy, but Motion Eaze works well for me so I'll make sure to apply some behind my ear before riding just in case. :)

I can't do Star Tours at all. It was a once and done for me due to the motion sickness. EE is worse for me than RnRC, but I can still ride them both. I just ride on an empty stomach and then grab a PowerAde from the gift shop at the exit of the ride (they both empty into gift shops).

Everest is an awesome ride, I would not skip Everest just because Star Tours made you sick. Have you gotten sick on other roller coasters? Or done coasters with loops/corkscrews? Simulators (and spinning rides) are more likely to make you motion sick than a roller coaster. For me personally, a coaster with inversions like RnRC is much more likely to give me a headache due to the shoulder harness and the possibility of banging my head against it. But everyone is different, I'm actually surprised by the number of people here who get sick from the backwards section of Everest.

No other corkscrews or loops that I can remember. I have so far been lucky that I've not gotten too sick on any other traditional coaster-type rides, although Space Mountain is touch and go. I was sick as a dog after the backwards Racer at King's Island, and I do get sick going backwards on a train or if I turn around to talk to people in the behind me when I'm in a moving vehicle. Part of it is I really need to be able to see where I am going, and be able to focus on a particular view. That's why I'm nervous about both of these, but knowing me I'll change my mind tend times before we go lol. Thanks for the heads up on the shoulder harness. I'm a small woman so not sure that'll be better or worse...

Well, that doesn't bode well for you riding Everest, but note that the backwards section of Everest is only 20 seconds long, and I'm sure Everest is a lot smoother than a 40 year old wooden coaster.

That's a very good point! :D Thanks for your help, I appreciate it!
