I've come across a great company www.globalbagtag.com . For about £10 you purchase a couple of tags from them and get two years of registration. Each tag has an identification number, you put these on your suitcase (and they fasten very securely) and before you set off you log on to their website and put in the details of when and where you are off to on holiday. So if your suitcase doesn't end up in the same place as you, this system should be able to reunite you with it fairly easily.
