We are scheduled to go to Disneyland on Sept. 28, driving down from Vancouver, B.C., Canada, first to L.A., then to Anaheim, and then to San Diego. With the horrific terrorist attack in N.Y., we are worried to travel with our 2 small DDs in tow. We are also feeling very sad for the families of the victims at the WTC and not really in the spirit.

What are everyone's thoughts on this? Are there any of you going next week?

I can understand your concerns, every day I spend so much time watching the news, reading the paper, wondering about these events.

I am scheduled to fly on October 2, and drive to Disneyland the second week of October from Vegas. I am not changing my plans, for many reasons. My main reason is that the terrorists want to instill fear into us and question our belief in our nation, and I refuse to give into that. Also, our economy needs help right now. I actually FIND ways to spend any extra money I may have.

Although I feel horrible, and know the thoughts will still be with me on vacation, we have to try to go on with our lives and not live in fear. I feel that I am much more likely to be the victim of a car accident than of a terrorist attack, and really, anything can happen at any time. I plan to enjoy life and live every day to the fullest, with no regrets. My trip to Disney will not make all my thoughts and feelings go away, but it will provide a nice distraction and alleviate my thoughts for a while.

Just my 2 cents on my personal decision. Make your decision based on what's best for you. You can read a lot about this topic on the Community Board too.

If you decide to go, please try to enjoy yourself!

To the extent that it is humanly possible, I will not let these people's evil intentions interfere with my famly's sense of safety, nor with our family's normal schedule of activities. (Naturally, those people directly affected by this do not have this kind of luxury.) I think that you are absolutely right to be concerned about your family's safety, and I'm sure that is always an important consideration in your travel plans, but I hope that when all is said and done, you decide that you will be able to proceed with taking your family to the Happiest Place On Earth.

We made our final payment Thursday for our 10/15 trip. All systems go! No one's going to take that away from us. The'll just need to deal with a lot of red, white, and blue.

As tragic and as vivid as these events were, you are still taking a far greater risk getting in your car than on a plane or entering an amusement park.

I too felt so weird trying to go on with our Dland trip.I realized two things; first it's exactly what the terrorists want. They do not have the military power or reserves to literaly wipe us out so they are trying to ruin us one person at a time. They killed and maimed enough of us to psychologically get us to self destruct our own country.Second; I was looking at my beautiful boys face while he was getting ready for kindergaten today. How many of the slain people in this tragedy would love the chance to carry on a normal life? They would love to see their babies faces' and go to the Happiest Place on Earth.I will go with a heavy heart but will enjoy it enough to share with their spirits.I want to honor them in being truly American.

We are going to go. You are all right in that we shouldn't let those evil people torment us like this. Thanks, all, for your replies. We knew we could rely on these Boards to get us back on track.

We have a trip planned in one month. DH and I thought about driving to Disney World instead of flying any where. We decided to keep our original plans and fly into Anaheim Oct. 22. It was a tough decision for me since I am already very uncomfortable about flying.

Even though our hearts and prayers are with the people in NY and DC, DH myself and our 3 kids will enjoy DL. We feel it is best to keep our lives going the way WE WANT. NOT the way terrorists think we should.

God bless America!!
:D

I completely understand everyone's trepidation. I am in the same boat with my wife. We are planning our first family vacation together with our 6-yr old daughter. Before the attacks last week, everybody was looking forward to going to DL. Since the attacks my wife is scared to death. She wasn't crazy about flying in the first place but she's really having second thoughts now. I keep telling her exactly what you guys keep saying. We can't let the terrorists run our lives. They want us to be scared and to live in fear.

I keep trying to tell my wife that the best thing we can do is to get on the plane and try to have a good time. It won't change the way we feel about all that has happened but it may help to take our minds off it if only for a few days. Disneyland is certainly a great way to let your mind escape for a few hours. I think I've got her convinced back to going but it's been a difficult task. We will be leaving on Oct 20th for a 5-day stay. I'll keep you all informed when we get back. I can't wait to see the HM makeover.

I agree with you all, if we stop living our lives, then the "bad guys" win. Fear is normal, but we all have to work to get past it and move on with our lives.

The Disney parks are VERY empty these days, I'm glad you all are planning to visit...enjoy! :earsgirl:

c&m, I too am from Vancouver, now living in Little Rock.

We just got back last night. We left last Saturday and up until 12 hours before, didn't know if we should go. Our trip had been planned for months. Now, more than ever, it seemed safer to fly. The security in my opinion, is the way it always should have been. Yes, it might be a little slower to get through the airport, but well worth it.

The parks were empty, we walked onto everything. We had a wonderful vacation and I would urge anyone who is uncertain to definatley go. We all need some pixie dust in our lives, now more than ever.

Thanks, Carol, for letting me know about the parks. I'm happy to hear that you ended up going and had a good time. We have now made the firm commitment to go this Friday, solidifying our decision even more by packing our suitcases this weekend. We are looking forward to it.
