Worried about The Grosvenor !!!

We are staying at the Grosvenor in July for 6 nights. I thought it looked like a pretty nice hotel and we are getting a good deal on it. But I've read a few responses to some other threads and I didn't hear any positive reviews about the hotel. Can someone who has been there tell me about the hotel and if I have anything to worry about. We've always stayed in one of the Disney All Star Resorts but I figured since I'm getting such a good deal that we would try this one out. Help!!!

We are in the same boat as you (very worried). We are not due to stay here until Dec for 4 nights though.
We got this hotel through Priceline. Hope someone has something nice to say about it.

If you go to the thread "Favorite Entertainment Book Restaurants " you can read what LoveThatMouse told me about their experience w/Grosvenor. It makes me breathe a little sigh of relief. I hope you'll have a good trip. We're going on our belated honeymoon, July just worked out better for us instead of June. I'll try to post my opinion on the Grosvenor when we get back.

I've never stayed there, so I can't say if it's a nice place or not.. But - you say you got it thru Price Line and that means you can't change it - right?

If so, then my advice to you is to STOP worrying about it.. Maybe it's nothing "grand" - but don't forget that everyones opinion of "good" and "bad" differs.. There are folks on this board that wouldn't stay in the Days Inn near Old Town for 2 minutes - and others that thought it was fine..

If you're not looking for elegance - only clean and safe - then odds are you'll be okay.. If you get there and find certain things not to your liking, then ask nicely to have them changed.. If "nice" doesn't work, then complain LOUDLY - in the LOBBY - and just KEEP complaining to things are done to your satisfaction.. Of course if it's an absolute dump (and I doubt it will be) you could try to get them to refund your money.. (Course I don't know how that works when you've gone thru Priceline..)

Mostly importantly though is until a whole BUNCH of people crop up here telling one horror story after another, you may be worrying needlessly and ruining all the fun of planning your vacation.. The deed is done - just hope for the best and go about planning a marvelous vacation!!

My sister and I stayed there last August for 4 nights. We had a tower room and we both thought it was a great place for the money. ($69.00 a nt, tower). Check in was smooth, service was friendly, we bought our passes AND our E-night tickets in the Disney store right there. The lobby was nice, we sat a few times for 1/2 hr, kicking back. There is a convenience store/cafe area on the lobby floor with seating that's open 24hrs. The pool area was nice enough. AND we did use the housekeeping line often asking for more towels ALOT because we were showering twice a day and we went swimming so we needed them and the staff was always timely. ( I did give them a $1 tip each time). We did not eat at Baskervilles so can't tell you about that. The bus was ok, too. It did seem that the Grosvenor was the last stop" going" to a park so sometimes we had to stand, but not always, we did gets seats much of the time and there were never problems coming back. I really liked the location to DD. You will be a 5mi walk across the street to the WDW bus stop-Marketplace and THE ONCE UPON A TOY STORE. We took the WDW bus to Marketplace quite a few times and then just walked back to Grosvenor. I have one suggestion for you, if you are in the tower ask for a room that is NOT right next to the elevator. The sound was a little loud (to me). It lulled my sister to sleep, it kept me awake a little longer than I wanted. We had a city view (not DD, hence the discount price I'm sure) but that didn't matter to us.
AGAIN, the "tower" rooms are nice. Hopefully, that's where you're staying.

Yes, we're gonna stay. My husband said that we're gonna try it this time instead of changing plans right now. I made my reservations through Grosvenor on their website. They are offering a rebate-the amount depends on how long you are staying. We are staying in a Disney Tower View for 6 night and are paying $484.26 after $100 rebate and tax included. I figured that's a really good deal. Thanks for all the info.

What is the shuttle service like from the hotel to WDW.

Is there constant shuttle service or 4 times in the morning and 4 times at night ect.

I currently have reservations at AS-Sports for my Dec 26 to Jan 3 solo trip, but really can't justify paying $127 a night for a room that I am just going to sleep in.

This is a DTD resort. Shuttle service every 30 minutes and pretty good. However, for the period you are looking at you are probably still paying about that rate.

Actually, I haven't looked at at the DTD resorts but, I was able to get a rate for $107 a night a one of them using my AAA card. I would be very happy to stay at AS-Sports, if there were discounts during the x-mas week.

I am just looking to see what all of my options are right now.

I am sure that since the shuttles come and go every 30 min and don't stop until 2 hours after the parks close I shouldn't have a problem getting into the parks as long as I take the first shuttle each day.

Also, are the DTD hotels part of the early entry into a WDW park or not.

Some of them are, some of them aren't.

I know that the Hilton does participate and I think the Wyndam. I don't think the other's do.

If there turns out to be enight, all of them participate in that.

The DTD shuttles are very good and the hotels have a great location for a single person since you can walk to DTD and Pleasure Island. At the Hilton the shuttle to PI also runs until something like 2 am. Most of the offsites don't to PI shuttles.

We stayed here once and didn't like it. It is an older hotel and shows the age. As has already been mentioned, you are staying here, so make the best of it. How many hours will you be in your room anyway? The plus is that you are going to Disney. The DTD bus service is nicer than Disney's own, so enjoy that feature. You are close enough to DTD to walk to it, so getting to dining is easy. Have a great time and enjoy your time at Disney.

My Grosvenor Review:

Tower rooms are what you'd expect from a decent hotel.

Wing rooms have balcony entrances, are poorly lit, have low ceilings, and are IMO much less desirable than the tower, but they are clean.

Housekeeping was OK. Nothing special or bad either way.

Pool area was very nice. Probably the best feature.

I stayed there during a conference and paid $139/night. For that price, I could have/should have stayed at a much nicer hotel.

So, in summary, if you can get it cheap, the Grosvenor is a decent hotel. MUCH, MUCH better than a Day's Inn or one of the cheapies on International Drive.
