We want to just bring our stroller with us. Our DS will be 17 months old and so will still be carrying diaper bag with us. So would like to take his stroller as nicer than the rentals with more storage space. What are the chances that it will get stolen while we are all on an attraction? Can we lock it up?

I have gone to disney many times and have seen so many different strollers all lined up and never once have I seen anyone touch another person stroller other than to move it if it was blocking theres. People at Disney are so thoughtful of other peoples property there everyone feels safe to leave there strollers with there bags all attached while on the ride. I hope you have a great trip

You can lock the wheels so it can't be pushed, but you can't lock it to anything like a gate, lamppost, etc. because often the CM's will move them around to make things look a little neater.

I'm planning on taking our stroller, and I'm just going to tie something to the handle to make it easy to identify in the sea of strollers. I wouldn't leave anything valuable with it though, that might be asking for it, although I've read very few reports of having things stolen from a stroller.

(on the family board, I think) that you can use a bicycle lock (I think the hard u-shaped type) to lock the stroller so it won't fold but it will still roll. This way someone could still theoretically take it, but it would be much harder for them to get it farther than their car since they couldn't fold it up to stow it.

Having said that, I think it's not totally unheard of but still very rare for stroller thefts to occur in the theme parks but if you're in the DTD or resort areas, you need to keep a closer eye on them. Also, it's a good idea to put something easily identifiable on the stroller handle - the shiny foil-type gift-wrap ribbon works well because it's hard to just tear off w/out using scissors or a knife and would make it obvious to a clueless person not "stealing" but just mistakenly taking a stroller that looks similar to theirs. Another tip: mark your personal identification info somewhere on the stroller that is not immediately visible so if it does get taken and you happen to spot it somewhere you can make a positive ID that it really is your stroller. And of course when you park it make sure you don't leave anything valuable in it. On our last trip we left our diaper bag but that's it. Worse came to worse, all that stuff could be replaced so I didn't worry about carrying it around. We took valuables on the rides with us.

I have also seen it mentioned that sometimes you will exit an attraction and you're stroller isn't where you left it...sometimes the cm's do move them to control the "stroller chaos" that can occur. That's probably the main reason why they don't want you locking your stroller to anything (Not to mention it would be a hassle for you too, IMHO).

Hope this puts your mind at ease and gives you a few ideas.

Have a magical day!

That's a good idea - to lock the stroller so they can't fold it.

Just got back and had no problem. I took the chain type lock (the one whitha coloredplastic covering the chain) it has teh combo type lock on it. I got it at the dollar store because I was not too sure it would work so I did niot want to spend $$ on it. I just wrapped it around the back two bars of my volo and it could not close. Worked great. Just putit on in themorning and left it until ready to leave. Also put a coupl of labels with name and cell number on the bottom of the bottom bars in case I had to id it. I wasnervous taking the volo and it was fine. If you do a search there have been threads on strollers being stolen so it is being safe to take the extra steps o protect the investment.

One of the last things you want to do on your vacation is worry about your stroller. I say, leave it at home, rent a double at the parks. That will give you plenty of room and if someone robs it, who cares..

I had a brand new stroller stolen at the end of a very long day. I am with the advice of leave it at home and rent one instead. The strollers there have really improved since I had mine stolen. If you take it, make it as personalized as possible. Mine was too clean and had no "trash" in it. It really was a bummer though Disney tried their best to find it. They said sometimes they get left at the gate and they even mailed me a stroller a week later but sadly it was not ours.:sad2: Rent the stroller and have one less thing to worry about.

Don't rent because you will need that stroller the most when you are leaving the park. There is nothing like carrying a tired child out of the parks. That being said, we never rented a stroller or brought ours. We always would stop at Walmart/Target, etc. and buy a cheap umbrella stroller. At the end of our stay we would leave it at the airport or give it to a family at the airport that might be able to use it.

Good luck

Maxie,

Based on your location, I'm pretty sure you won't be driving to WDW! You will want to have your stroller in the airport, too. We always just bought an inexpensive umbrella stroller, carried it on the plane (or gate-checked it) and could always use it to carry the little-one thru the airport (or, pile the luggage on and have an impromptu luggage cart). It is certainly less expensive than renting for the whole visit, and as Cora said, you can wheel it right onto the monorail or boat if those are your modes of transportation. Also, you're out way less if, against the odds, it is misappropriated. When you get back home, put it away for the next visit!
