so we have an ADR there for our upcoming trip....went once a few years back and liked it. Just talked with my friend who came back and said my one back suggestion was Sci Fi...worst food ever...really greasy!!! Ugh...did I make a mistake?:confused3

First I have to say Sci Fi is not one of my favourites, but that's just because I prefer some of the other DHS places. Just because one person likes a place, doesn't mean the next person will. And vice versa. Everyone has their own food preferences. If everyone liked the same stuff I wouldn't have had to battle my kids for so many years to eat their veggies!!:rotfl:

So don't sweat it. Go and enjoy, like you did the last time.

Agreed, it's not necessarily a bad choice. We enjoyed it here, we found some selections were lighter than other restaurants and for us as far as HWS is concerned there aren't very many choices to begin with. My only advice would be if on DDP pay oop for this one, the prices here are very low and not worth using a TS credit for.

I would ask you this: Do you and your friend agree on foods and restaurants at home?
If so then it probably isn't for you. If you don't agree, then go and find out for yourself.

Also if the menu suits you, go and see. Did she go into detail of "why" it was gross?

I find that many people do not do this. They say "ewe, gross, worst I have ever had" but then if pressed they really don't have that bad of news to tell you. Just they "didn't like it"...but why.

For example I hate Boma, and people love it. So anytime I give an opinion on this restauant I include why I didn't like it. I describe it in detail, that way OP gets a better picture of why and can decide if their tastes are like mine.

Try and not panic, chances are you will be fine. It may not be the best meal you have but it won't be like eating garbage.

I have eaten at Sci Fi numerous times. I have always liked the food there. Ask another person and they will have hated it. People's opinions on Disney restaurants are so varied. You liked it when you ate there before so go and enjoy. I think Sci Fi is one of the experiences that is pure Disney. Where else can you eat inside a car watching bad Sci Fi movie clips? :)

IMHO The food is not the best at the SciFi.
BUT...
the experience is totally worth the mediocre food. We do it every trip because the kids love it!

We just ate there this June. This is what we ordered...BLT soup (without lettuce), onion rings (a lttle greasy), fries, cheeseburgers (can order for dinner even though not on dinner menu), reuben, chicken sandwich and milkshakes. We enoyed our food and there were no complaints. We eat at ScFi every year and always enjoy it...just order simple type meals and have fun.

I have to agree with your friend the food there is awful!!! I ate there once and would never go back ... very bad experience for me! But as many have said your miles may vary so just go with LOW expectations and you should be fine.:goodvibes

I think the food is hit or miss. We ate there a few years ago and I thought the food wasn't that good so we didn't go back until our most recent trip in Jan. My husband wanted to try it again since it had been a few years and we lOVED it. The food was good and the server we had was the best we have ever had at any Disney restaurant! Go and have fun!

Sci Fi is the one place that my family insists we go to every time we are at Disney. We only do the burgers, onion rings and a shake. We normally split and we LOVE it! We love the atmosphere and we enjoy the food. I do agree to pay OOP. And like others before me, it is each to his own as to whether you like it or not. Just like zebra domes, after reading about them on disboards, I could not wait to eat one. We went to Boma for dinner, didnt care for Boma and didn't care for zebra domes . Cross them off my must do list:rotfl:

This year my must try is the carrot cake cookie sandwich at Writers Stop ( right after I leave Sci-Fi:thumbsup2)

IMHO Sci Fi food is not that good. But its just as good or better than any place else at DHS and the prices are alright. And its a fun place to eat.

We have been a couple of times and I would go back. I had a great turkey sandwhich with a really good avocado mayo. Nothing fancy, but it hit the spot for me. My oldest ds always gets a good burger there. My dh had the rueben, i think, and we liked that too. I say go and enjoy .:)

we have ADRs for Sci Fi for our trip in October - we are mainly doing it for the atmosphere as think our DS 6 will love it - although he probably won;t eat much food.

We LOVE sci-fi! Ate there twice on our last trip and I wouldn't have described teh food as greasy but that's probably because of what we chose - Ribs and the vegetarian Tofu dish.

DF loved the Tofu - it was the main reason that we re-visited on the same trip.

The ribs were good, not great but you get AMAZING milkshakes and you eat in a car - where else can you get that?

I thought the food at Sci Fi was tasty! The ribs i had were very yummy, not too fatty at all. My son loved his cheeseburger. The shakes are great too. The atmosphere is amazing. You have to try this at least once. Honestly, your kids will LOVE IT! If you listened to everyone's (negative) opinion on restaurants, you wouldnt have anywhere to eat in disney. Sci Fi is a must do at least once in your disney life. :)

I have to add one more thing. Not everyone's taste is the same (as i said in my previous post). We're all different. My sister is the pickiest person i've met. I like a restaurant, but she hates it. For silly reasons too!....the forks werent shiny enough, the waiter only put one cube of ice in her drink instead of 3, she saw a mosquito in the restaurant.....oh the horror. She complains its too greasy, while i thought it was fine! She's not able to let things slide off her back, whereas im opposite. You see what im getting at? Everyone is different. Go to sci fi and have fun. You might be pleasantly surprised. :upsidedow

No one will ever agree on a restaurant. Take Tony's in the MK. The reviews are so varied you get whiplash trying to keep up with them.

If you and your family like it, take the chance with it. I preferred 50's Prime Time over it, but as I said, that's me.

I go in with the mind set its diner food, its a drive in theater restaurant... I order like I would at a diner, cheeseburger onion ring and a chocolate milkshake, sit there enjoy the nostalgia of the old movie clips and have a nice tasty experience...I feel its what you order there... Wouldn't order the steak there and compare it to a Le Cellier... Setting yourself up for a big disappointment:lmao: Burgers, onionrings or frys and a milkshake and you'll be fine...:wizard:
