Worried about my October ressies

At the 11 month window, I made my day by day reservations for our 2 bedroom at BWV, standard view. I made it for the week that we always have teachers conventions here, so the kids would only miss 3 days of school. Today they finally posted the 2004-05 school calendar, and they changed the dates of the conventions to the week after my reservations. I have never been on the waitlist before, but I do know how busy October is because of the food and wine festival, so I do not have a lot of hope that I will be able to get reservations for a standard view for the following week. Not much point to this post I guess, except to share my woes LOL.

Sorry that happened, but don't despair just yet. You just never know!

Wishing you the best of luck -

Hi,

Pixie dust for your waitlist!!! :wizard:

I go to WDW and stay at BWV very often during this time period, and it is one of the busier times. Were you able to get a preferred view for the dates you need, or are you now without any room at BWV? If you do not even have a room to stay in with your trip date changes, then I would book at whatever DVC resort may be available--just to have a place to stay and still stay on the waitlist at BWV. You never know, a standard view at BWV may become available. But based on my prior experiences of being on a waitlist for a standard view at BWV during this time period; I would not count on it.

I hope this doesn't double post, I'm getting error messages.

In further looking at the calendar, it looks like they do have the Monday off of the week I have my reservations, so I could do it, and they would miss 4 days instead of just 3, but I'm not sure. Then I thought I could wait list for the second week and keep the first, but that would mess up making airfare reservations. Hmmm.

On a side note, this is the weirdest school calendar I've ever seen. My kids only get 6 days off for Christmas, no spring break (just good Friday and Monday) and they get out the day before Memorial Day weekend. In the 29 years I've known about school in our area, schools have NEVER gotten out in May. Very odd.

Erika, when do you have your ressie for? We also are planning a grand gathering for MEA week in a GV, and now you have me worried that we calculated the date wrong! We have our ressies starting October 17.

Our school calendar in St. Paul says teacher days are Oct. 21 and 22 in fall of 2004.

Since the 7 month window has not yet arrived for the entire week, there may still be hope for you. Sending lots of Pixie dust your way!

I think the school calendar is so different because of the dates of Labor Day for this year. MEA is always the third Thursday of October. Many years of being around my teacher mother taught me that!:teeth: You did give me a scare though!:earseek:

Diane, I wish I would have asked you first, so I could have spared myself looking like an idiot!!! I guess if I can get a preferred view, I could stay the first Saturday night somewhere else.

MEA is later than normal this year. Usually it's in the teens of October. MEA actually posts their dates very far in advance and you can check that. It's just the individual school disctricts that wait so long.

I would LOVE to be out before Memorial Day! There's a psychological depression on having to go to school in June. Our school calendar isn't out yet, but I hear one of the options we get out June 2! I am all for that!

Best of luck in switching, but it sounds like you can swing it the week before as well and not miss much.

Well, I just made somebody's day for the 9-17th of October, as I just cancelled my 2bd standard reservation. Now I have a preferred view booked for the 17th through the 24th and a preferred studio for the first night, the 16th. I didn't want to borrow from October 2005 to have a preferred 2 bedroom the whole time, the points were nuts. I may not even stay at the BW at all the first night, I can't decide. I am waitlisted for the standard view, but I don't have a lot of hope.

Just wanted to wish you luck! Keep us posted!

And I wanted to add.. this had me nervous about booking 'projected' school holidays 11 months in advance...

My oldest starts K next year....

Sounds like you are making progress. Maybe we will be on the same flight!

I served on my school systems calendar committee this year - what an enlightening experience! At least in KY, there are many regulations that determine when breaks can occur and trying to mesh the "traditions" with the regulations can be quite difficult. Our Fall Break is actually a week later than it has been the past several years and the supervisor in charge of the committee was certain that this would not be a problem because in her words "no one plans their vacations this far in advance". She apparently has never heard about DVC - my vacations are planned WAY in advance;)

Thanks Diane, don't know if I'd call it progress LOL, as it may cost me a move or more points, but at least I still have a room. I'll be looking for you on the plane. Let me know if you come across any good airfares, cuz so far, I've seen none!!!

Hang in there you have time for the waitlist to come thru, some people change their ressies all the time. if your worried about the points, keep an eye out for a code for that time of year, i know the AP codes came out for april 18- july something and when there is a AP code a public code comes out at the same time, you just pay about $10 or more then the AP.

that is how we got our discount for the poly on the week end for easter
good luck:sunny:

I think it depends on your district. My kids districts are all over the map, they change things year to year, I can't predict anything. Then for fun, I went and looked at the calendar for next year from the District I went to school in (and I graduated 17 years ago) and their schedule is still exactly the same, theirs runs like clockwork.
