Just a little background.. My dad is 76.. Up until about 6 or 7 yrs ago he was very active, healthy, etc.. it seems like one day he woke up and he went downhill.. At one point they didnt know what was wrong and mentioned leukemia.. they tested him for that and found out he has some kind of blood disorder.. something to do with his platelets.. he has been on so many medicines since then.. He tires so easy.. He can hardly walk anymore without having a hard time breathing.. His feet, ankles and legs swell so bad that he can hardly get slip on slippers on.. He has been on medicine for that.. Today my mom called me and said that my dad went and had an xray last week and some blood tests and they got the results in the mail.. The letter said that he has a collapsed lung.. it says for him to continue with his breathing treatments.. Im not a dr, nurse or medical professional, but when I heard this I said "What?? Thats all they are telling him to do?" I was in a horrible car accident when I was 19 and did alot of damage which collapsing my lung was one of many things and I had to have a tube inserted.. Shouldnt they be offering something for him? He is having a hard time breathing.. I wish my mom would take him to the er, but there is no getting him to the hosptl unless his dr tells him to go.. He hates the er, hosptl, etc.. I told my mom to call the dr first thing in the morning and check to make sure that first of all that letter was right in saying his lung collapsed and find out what needs to be done.. It just doesnt sound right to me that they wouldnt admit him and do something for him.. Just wondering if anyone might know anything about this.. I will be sure to update tomorrow once I talk to mom.. Im hoping she misread that paper..
.I also feel your pain and worry. My dad just turned 78 last week. He was very active and still tries(is a dairy farmer and never stops) He also has lukemia and now high sugar. Lucky for him though, his lukemia treatment is once a month he will go for a few hours at the hospital for a treatment then take his pills for four more days. Thats all, and I think thats why hes still on the go. But is achy and more tired.
