Worried about my dog

I found a knot on my dog a couple of days ago. When my sister came over last night, I had her feel it while Honey was standing and she told me that it is her hip bone and that it may just stick out a little more than the other side and not to worry. My mind was at ease.
But then before bed, I was sitting on the floor with Honey and she was laying beside me. I REALLY felt it then. You evidently can feel the knot better when she is laying down. I'm concerned but not sure if I should run her to the vet or not. I'll have to take off work and Honey HATES car rides- gets very frightened. Plus our vet ain't cheap and if its nothing I hate to spend $100 or so. Of course, I would much rather spend the money and it be nothing than for it to be the other way around!!!
What do you think- should I take her to get checked out or just watch it and see??? Anyone have anything like this on one of their pets?
TIA,
Erin

I can't offer any advice, but wanted to say that I hope Honey feels better! :grouphug:

Can you call the doctor and ask what they want you to do? Other than that..I hope everything turns out ok!

I think I'd CALL the vet and ask whether to bring her in. If she needs to go to the vet, ask the vet to give you some anti-anxiety meds to give her BEFORE you get in the car.

I also think that if she isn't having any other symptoms, like limping or excessively licking the spot, you may just want to wait a week or two to see if it goes away or gets worse.

I hope all is well and wish Honey all the best.

had a tumor on the inside of her ear that started out small and grew very quickly so I took her in. HE removed it and did a biopsy, and unfortunately it was cancerous. It also came back in a month, he said it was a kind of cancer that would pop up again all over her body.He wanted her to go for chemo, but I had him remove 2/3 of her ear, that was 1 1/2 years ago, and it hasn't recurred, plus her ear hair is so long you can't tell she had the surgery, she is fine. I sincerely hope your pet is fine, I would either take the dog in now or watch it and if it gets bigger take her in. If it is something bad, I would opt for surgery over chemo, I talked with a women whose dog had something similarly located to where your dogs is, and she went to an out of town expensive specialist, and he said they had much better reults with surgery over chemo. I sincerely hope I am not scaring you, it very well could be absolutely nothing, and please note, both of the dogs I told you about are absolutely fine now. My golden has the energy of a young pup. Good luck to you.

She seems fine. She runs and plays with our puppy and is not limping or anything. We have had her for the past two months (got her from an animal shelter) and it may be that she has had this place the whole time and maybe I just didn't notice it before. But now that I've found it, I can't stop obsessing about it. It could even be that it is a bruise from roughhousing with the puppy- she has such sharp little puppy teeth::yes::
I'll call the vet tomorrow if the place still seems the same when I get home tonight.

Have a vet look at her. It will give you peace of mind.

My yorkie has an extra, half-formed rib on one side of her body. You can imagine my concern when I felt that sticking out with no corresponding bone on the other side. I freaked out.

Turns out she has a bone deformity, as many small dogs do(especially as small as she is, 4 pounds full grown). No biggie.

You'll feel better if you get it checked out.

Our golden/lab mix has a lump on his back. He has had it for several years now, and the vet says it's fine - just some sort of "deposit" - can't remember what exactly. My DH also has a similar lump on HIS back and the docs say the same thing, although I still worry...

I'd call the vet and see what they say. Otherwise, wait until you take your dog in for shots and ask about it then. Good luck! I'm glad your sweetie doesn't seem to be noticing it at all!

I got DH to take her in this afternoon. He just called and said it is a sebaceous cyst and that it is nothing to worry about- just to keep an eye on it. The funny thing, like Dizagain's husband, is that I also have a similar thing to the dog- I have a very small one of these on the underside of my forearm. I told DH that they must run in the family ;)
I am glad that I took everyone's advice and went ahead and had her seen.
Thanks to everyone!!! I am so relieved and joyful!

Good for you! You did the right thing.

And you're also doing right by your dog by keeping a close eye on odd lumps.

So happy it worked out!

:)

Like people, our furry buddies need that loving care, care you so gave and now are comforted by. And that is good. Glad it was fine.

I'm glad you had her checked out, and it's not much to worry about. I had one of those cysts on my back that I finally had removed for appearances sake.

 's to you. Sure hope he is ok. I, too, would call your vet in the am and see what they say. Keep us posted.
