Worried about BOMA for dinner-hubby might not enjoy

I know that I would try different things and kids would be perfectly fine with the chicken and mac and cheese. Hubby isn't into ribs or prime rib so I'm really concerned that he won't be able to really get anything out of it. I want a place that we can all enjoy and I"m afraid that this would be a place that only I would enjoy mostly. Any opinions or suggestions perhaps for another place for our arrival dinner. We are staying at AKL and that is one reason we wanted to book there because it is our "home resort" but, I am thinking somewhere else might be a better fit. We are scheduled for Crystal Palace for the morning so I wouldn't want to do that for dinner the evening before. Thanks for your help:thumbsup2

You know, my wife is a pretty picky eater. She does not like a lot of spicy or "mixed" foods and she hated Boma. I liked it because I am more of an adventurous eater and I found some very good food there.

Jiko is another option in AKL and even though I have never eaten there, I hear great things. It is also a place where you can order off the menu and I think that might suit your husband more.

I've thought it over and I'm definitely sticking with BOMA. I think hubby will be fine with chicken and if they have fries like on the kids meal. I just don't want to miss out on this different style of buffet unique to the AKL and since we are staying there. Plus, after driving to WDW for about 12 plus hrs., I think getting to our resort, checking in, eating, relaxing/swimming, looking around, etc is the MUCH better option than running somewhere else. Hubby wouldn't want me to cancel out. I was just trying to think of everybody:goodvibes

Would JIKO's be a better option, hmmmmmmm...................:confused3 now you have my head spinning, LOL:lmao: As if it wasn't already with all this planning, LOL:surfweb: I didn't even consider it but I had thought it was a bit more of a fancy affair at JIKO'S. I'll check it out. Thanks for confusing me, JUST KIDDING:rotfl2: I asked for the opinions and they really do help me out. Thanks again:thumbsup2

I agree with you.
After that kind of drive I don't think a long trip to any other restaurant would impress him. Likely it would just be a disaster because everyone would be tired.
I am sure he will find something he can eat at Boma and appreciate getting to relax rather than run around after all of that driving.
We made the same decision for our first night.. not sure if they will love the food.. but it's better than dragging our tired butts somewhere else:)

I agree; after a ling drive (which we are VERY familiar with) you don't want to be driving around. you're never sure when your room will be available and you can "settle it".
I have a hard time believing even the most finicky eater won't be able to "fill up" at Boma. hubby nebo is finicky (but he does like prime rib),but there is ckicken, and chicken fingers, mac and cheese, etc. tons of salads, tell him to start with the desserts!!! yummy! zebra domes! . then go out to the savannah viewing area with the night goggles.. take in the aura of the lobby.
jiko is pricey. if anything, eat at the cafeterai, which is nice, for what you get.
If you DO need to drive anywhere; it is a very short drive to the Rainforest cafe at the animal kingdom theme park (which had a seperate entrance... you do NOT need to use up theme park tickets to eat there) it is not, however, on the dining plan. but it is just a very short drive from your resort. and it's a lot of fun!
you'lll LOVE AKL!!!!! I'm SO jealous! have fun!!!!

Well, JIKO would probably be harder to find something to like for a finicky eater since the menu selections are much more limited than BOMA. Also, JIKO is a signature restaurant, considered to be fine dining, might not be something you want to sit through after a long travel day (our last trip to JIKO in January was 2 hours for dinner and there was not one child in the restaurant that night).

We have some very picky eaters in our group and they do not like the ribs at BOMA, too spicy. They were fine with the chicken though. And they did find plenty of side dishes that they were okay with--they just stayed away from the soups.

You made the right choice with Boma and also with a buffet IMHO. Most buffets at WDW are sure to have "the basics" mixed in with their signature dishes. Boma, btw, has excellent chicken strips and spagetti & meatballs from the kids buffet if worse comes to worse. DBF loved the prime rib. I am a fairly picky eater and I found plenty to eat there. The desserts were the best selection out of any WDW restaurant we went to.

& the atmosphere is soooo relaxing.....man I wish I was there right now...:cloud9:

I also agree that Boma is much better than Jiko for someone who might be a picky eater. You get more for your money at Boma as well.

Have fun!!

I'm a very picky eater.... VERY! And I love Jiko! Steak and mac and cheese is perfect for the picky eater and that's what I always get. I really really really didn't enjoy Boma. I ate everything off the kids area and I was very disapointed. Not in the food itself, just in the lack of choices for me...

Just to give you an idea of how picky I am, here some are things I will NOT eat:
Any seafood
Nuts
Most raw vegetables
Duck
Lamb
Any berries
Pineapple
Red peppers
Chicken on the bone
Most sausages
Anything to sweet...

I could go on, lol. I probably seem a little wacky.

The foods at Boma SOUND exotic but they really aren't. Maybe a bit spicier but not what I would consider exotic. And I'm a picky eater. My brother-in-law is even pickier than I am (he eats nothing that he has to cut with a knife and he hates chicken) but he had a great time at Boma.

You are arriving after 12 hours of driving. You are going to be tired. Jiki is a place that is more dressy than Boma. Do you really want to have to change after that drive or would you rather just go and get some grub? Your other option is to get a pizza from Mara.
