World Showcase ???

We normally go with another couple and after walking through the countries from Mexico over to Canada, we eat our way through the countries! We like to share a vegetarian meal at the Tangerine Cafe (great couscous), then have a mixed flavor shaved ice in Japan, share a German sausage with kraut, half a schoolhouse bread snack in Norway and finally have a drink at the outdoor cafe in Mexico, where we sit on the patio to watch Illuminations. For fun, we try to start a conversation with at least one cast member from each country. There are so many nooks and crannies in each country, and we ask the cast members where their secret favorite places are to sit or to see something special from their country. We've made many new friends!

In Morocco, see the Moroccoan house, it's toward the back on the left; also on the front on the left, inside, is a small Moroccoan exhibit. In Japan, way in the back on the left is a room with various artifacts.

I REALLY like Off Kilter - I think the singer is cute. And I like the belly-dancer chick in Morocco. And I love everything in Mexico!

The most important thing is to be very aware of the World Showcase entertainment schedule. If you aren't, WS can feel like just country themed gift shops. We look ahead using Steve Soares site: http://pages.prodigy.net/stevesoares/ Then we check the official Epcot schedule when we get there. Some events begin and end earlier in the day - others go later. I think "British Invasion" at 8PM was the last show on Saturday so we started (with the World Showcase Players) and ended our day at UK. When we went to WDW in June, we found that Tuesday was the best day for numbers of entertainment acts available at WS. I don't know if that is always be the case. We enjoy Kristos, Jammitors, the World Showcase Players at both Italy & UK, Off Kilter is fantastic, and we like the candy artist and drummers in Japan and the Chinese Acrobats. Saturday was the first time we saw "Spirit of America Fife & Drum Corps", "British Invasion", "Mo Rockin" , & the "Serveur Amusant". In June, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the Tin Toys exhibit at Japan. Epcot didn't start out this way but the more we explore, the more it is becoming one of our favorite parks.

We've decided though, that they should add a Pinochio themed ride in Germany and a high speed "Chunnel" ride between France & UK. :sunny:

We adore World Showcase, the food is great, the entertainment is fun (LOVE LOVE LOVE Off Kilter,) and we always have to make a special stop for my hubby at the Rose and Crown. He's English and likes to get a better than American swill beer that is about as close to room temperature as it gets at Disney.

I hope we can spend some good time exploring some of the things I didn't know about that I've learned here on the Dis Boards on our upcoming trip next month.

Thanks for the ideas. The group that going with me has said that they don't have to spend much time in Epcot and that it was boring. From what I read, I think that it's got a lot of stuff to do and see.

OMG! I love the idea of a "chunnel" ride! :yay:

I caught about 2 seconds of Mo' Rockin on last trip (was rushed by kids in our group) and thought it was great. I can't wait to go back with DH, grab a beer and listen to the whole set! :rockband:

Also enjoy having a pastry and people watching in France :flower1:

Great ideas!! Exactly what I am looking for! Any other ideas???
Also, what are your favorite foods/desserts/drinks??? (not candy, I already found that thread. :cloud9: )

Hmmmmm...let's see.

There's baklava at Morocco, kaki gori in Japan, funnel cakes at America, waffles with the strawberry filling at Norway (although some people will tell you that school bread is to die for too)

Drinks;

Unfiltered sake in Japan, wine in France, a black and tan in England, moroccan coffee in Morocco, marguerita in Mexico.

Boy I know I am missing stuff, but you get the idea.

lots of great ideas we saw the candy around the world thread a couple of weeks ago and my kids want to try that and eating around the world it should be interesting

I completely agree with you!!!

What is the candy artist????

It'll say "Miyuki" on the schedule. The candy artist is a lady who makes lollipop type candy sculptures. She'll select several kids from the audience and ask them to pick a color and an animal from her list. Then she'll take hot unformed candy and will create that item. The swans and the dragons were especially amazing to me.

Eat at Morocco's counter service Tangierene. Get a henna tattoo there too!! Watch the drummers in Japan. Buy some tea and chocolates at the tea shop in England. Enjoy all the gardens. Sit and look out over the lagoon and watch the birds. World showcase is to be enjoyed and to relax in. Have a glass of wine, or unfiltered sake. And don't forget to see American Adventure.

oooooo- i got a henna tatoo and it looked awsome-- its incredible the detail they can do!

We like an Evening stroll around World Showcase just to take in the atmosphere , our son usually falls asleep.

We eat our way around the WS (Turkey Legs, Khaki Kori, Soft Pretzel, deserts in France, Fish & Chips, Funnel Cake), do a little shopping, take in the differnet styling/architectures of the different countries, and try to catch some of the many shows along the way. You can't rush thru WS, it takes time.

When you guys talk about strolling through and grabbing drinks (wine, champagne, etc.), do you mean there are walk-up type places to get these in WS or do you go into a restaurant, have a drink and then move on? :drinking1 Thanks!

Oh no you don't have to go in the restaurant; can walk right up to purchase every country that has drinks to sell you can walk up to the outside kiosk. Altho if you are in teh Rose & Crown you drink in there as long as you'd like and then get a to-go glass once you're ready to move on.
