What are some of the souvenirs you can purchase at the World Showcase? I love stuff from other countries so since I don't have money to go all over the world I'm going to save a lot of money to spend there. So what are some cool things to buy that would represent that country? And if you remember please include prices so I can begin to try to figure out how much money to save.

ex: paper fans in China

By the way does anyone know if they have those paper lanterns in Japan? i've always wanted on of those!

Thanks! ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

I hate to see no answers here but I admit I haven't bought a lot of souvenirs from each country. I tend to try different foods from each or get postcards. I know that in Germany, we bought some pvc figures of the characters, they were little and relatively cheap, but I don't remember the cost. In Mexico, there are many small items that are cheaper, in Norway a lot of the stuff is higher priced. Good luck in your quest.

There are some really cool colorful carvings in Mexico and coo-coo clocks in Germany. The France store has a lot of items with great works of art on them that are really cool. I got a cuttingboard with Monet's "Water Lillies" on it for my birthday last year and dh has a Monet and Van Gogh tie.

I never realized this when I visited World Showcase in '97 -- but the pricing you have described is just like the real world.

Eeeks I typed out a huge response and I timed out! I'll try a fast response.

I love shopping, and if I can combine my favorite place in the world, with a favorite pasttime... I'm a happy girl!

Depending on what amount of money you want to spend, depending if you want to get items to keep or use, depending on if you want clothing or figurines to set on a shelf, your price range will vary.

In Mexico - anything from nice silver jewelry to a sombrero is available so you can spend a few dollars all the way up!
In Norway - trolls to set on a shelf or sweaters to wear or a wonderful perfume (Laila around $50)
In China - fans to satin dresses
In Germany - The WINES! or teddy bears or Hummel figurines which can be very expensive!
In Italy- leather or glass items ($$$)
In Japan - there are kimonos or there is a place to get a raw pearl that you choose the oyster and then you can get it put in a ring setting for more $$ The oyster/pearl itself is about $15
In Morocco you can get baskets and ceramic items pretty reasonably
In France - again the wines! Or the perfumes! I love finding a new favorite of each
In UK - the tea time items - cups and tea pots! Want to get a new one every trip!
In Canada - a leather maker (maybe a belt?) or the Roots clothing line. We love this line and get items from $25 on up. The cologne is wonderful!

We don't usually buy anything "expensive" but love shopping around WS. Here are a few things we like to buy:

My kids are enamored with Japan, so anything from there; anime stuff, hello kitty & friends, pocky, candy, green tea, sake & cups.

I love and wear Roots cologne(Canada) everyday!

I bought a neat Art book in France one year, and post cards, fridge magnets...

Parasols in China.

Shortbread at U.K.

It's always fun to bring back packaged snacks from different countries.

andi_b_2005- To answer your question, yes, the China Pavilion does sell paper fans, and yes, the Japanese Department store does sell paper lanterns. However, in both cases they aren't cheap souvenirs. They are very beautiful works of art.

The Yong Feng Shangdian a very large retail space in the back of "China". Without going into everything they sell, I will say that it is an absolute "must shop", even if you are only looking.

The Mitsukoshi Department store in "Japan" is a fascinating place to shop. Besides what has already been mentioned, you'll find incense, real swords, model kits, books, amazing wall clocks, watches, toys, food items (including Ginger salad dressing), art banners, clothing (including "Iron Chef" tees), some furniture, cooking utensils and chop sticks, Lucky Cats, and much, much more. We always seem to buy something there.

We spend a lot of time at both stores and I'm sure you will enjoy looking in all of the World Showcase shops.

My teenage daughter bought a flag from each country for a few dollars each, and she displays them in her bedroom window. We bought the Passporter book for all of our kids a few years ago, and we had a ball going to each country and having the castmembers write a greeting in their native language.

One of my favorites from World Showcase is the Fez I bought from Morocco that I stick some of my favorite pins on.

Japan has our favorite store - lots of fun things to buy. Now they have more Pokemon stuff for DS9 and DD5 can always find something Hello Kitty. DH has bought himself a set of sushi plates and some swords. We also bought kimonos. Last trip I bought myself two origami books.

Mexico has fun wooden carvings.

I'm sure there are more but my mind is blank...

And, you have to buy chocolate in Germany and UK!!!

Plus, Canada has great hockey souveniers (my husband LOVES that)!!!

Another really neat thing is getting Disney stuffed characters in the different countries in the native garb - I think I saw Mickey, Goofy, Eeyore, Pooh and others, dressed up in the traditional dress of the countries at Epcot. My daughter collects Eeyores, and we got some very cute ones.

You can get postcards and small paper fans and screen type things. I bought a small framed piece of art (made of some type of plant or tree or something-can't remember), for about 12-16. DDs were able to make a free mask, and in each country, they were able to add something. I always bring a souvenier from Africa back for my DB, which I usually buy in AK. They have little carved wooden magnets of animals for a few $, beautiful masks of different sizes and prices, and other stone and wood carvings. We bought DDs two anime videos in Japan a few years back. I think they ran about 20. each. Every once in a while, you can find a few souveniers from the Epcot countries at the outlets or the tent sales at the outlets. Don't know how often, though.
