Is there a specific time frame for this show to open? I know nothing is ever set in stone - but I was hoping to book our first DVC trip to see the new show :woohoo:

March 2010 is what everyone is saying including the signs at DCA. :)

I was wondering the same thing! I'm hoping to celebrate my birthday with a trip next year, and my birthday's in March. I don't care about getting in free on my birthday or anything, just want to go to Disneyland some time around that time. I'm hoping my family'll get to see World of Color while we're there. So now I'm just wondering if we should aim for April or later in March to even attempt avoiding crowds.

But, oh well, we'd be in Disneyland, right? I hope you have a great trip. :goodvibes

Anyone know specifics about World of Color, like if they're going to have some sort of seat reservation like Fantasmic!? If so, ball park cost? ANYTHING :confused3? Throw me a bone....!

Thanks HydroGuy....sadly I definitely trust you more then the signs at DCA. So, based off your professional opinion - how soon would you feel safe booking a trip if it were you???

Just know that I have zero insider knowledge. Just what is published. :)

I am always concerned that dates will slip. Disney is pretty good about hitting dates but you never know. They had all the problems with the Fantasmic dragon this summer. If WoC is a high priority for someone they may want to wait until June to give a cushion from the planned March premiere.

If WoC is not that high of a priority then April would be fine. Just realize the crowds will be MASSIVE initially.

Here is some more info:

And just as Nightastic! hopefully hits its stride in mid July, the already massive DCA Extreme Makeover expands more. By the time you read this, the last car will have parked in what used to be the remnants of the Disneyland parking lot. The most obvious project is the drained lagoon and sprawling World Of Color installation. While that massive project is nothing short of amazing to watch, there was actually a scenario considered that would have seen an even more fevered construction schedule. One plan was considered late last year that would have piled on the overtime for both the lagoon work and the amphitheater construction in order to have the show up and running by December, 2009. That plan was considered as a way to pull some of the maddening Christmas crowds out of Disneyland and redistribute them each night into DCA. But that aggressive calendar was nixed mainly because of costs in an increasingly shaky economy, and the March, 2010 debut was settled on instead.

It's probably best that they give themselves as much time as possible, if the technical problems that have plagued the fast-tracked Nightastic! offerings are any indication. For instance, the recent decision to include numerous fireball throwers and towering jets of flame into World of Color instead of an easier plan for low-level pyrotechnics should provide a unique spin on the average water show. The longer timetable is also allowing the designers to not only perfect the show itself, but has also allowed Disneyland's entertainment department to add in flourishes like the ability for the fountains to respond to a cheering crowd by coming back after the show to take a few grand sweeping bows, and if the crowd really cheers enough, to even perform a short encore in appreciation. This World of Color show is going to be big.

Not only that, but also be aware that a large portion of those crowds will be locals who are coming to the park just for the show. They won't be interested in going on rides, and they will be perfectly willing to show up at rope drop and spend all day reserving their spot for the show that night.

If you plan to enjoy the park during the day and then see the show that night, prepare to be disappointed. Even after decades people still show up three hours early to reserve spots for Fantasmic. For World of Color during the first few weeks, I'd expect people to wait 8 hours or more.

 Holy surprise, batman, this is INSANE! Seriously, I am staring at the screen "speechless". I thought by June some of the fuss would die down a bit, and it wouldn't be such a mad dash for the thing. I hope us going mid-week with the kids still in school makes a drop in the bucket. I'll take anything I can get! I'm scared! :scared1:

Anyone know about any PS ressies type deal like Fantasmic!?

I have not heard anything about a "reserved" seating yet. But if they do expect it to cost the same (if not a bit more) as Fantasmic.

I hope they are building a dedicated reserved seating area :cool1: with a buffet station so we can get something other than the boxes :thumbsup2
I would love to have more savory than all that sweet :goodvibes
it's pretty much a cash cow for DLR and people would pay.
I know reserved seating is probably the only way I'll watch it just like F!
Can't handle the huge crowds and I am sure WoC will be a monster for years :scared1:

I'm with you there. I don't mind giving my arms and legs to pay for seating, but I really just don't want to spend my DISney time trying to save a seat for one show. ESPECIALLY when I'd have to borrow Capt Hook's sword to fight people to the death for my spot! There is so much that I can be seeing, doing, and experiencing during those 3, 4, 8:scared1: hours. Guess I'll just have to wait it out and HOPE that first, they'll do seating, and second, that I'll be able to get it some night I'm there. pixiedust:

Over at the site Miceage, Al Lutz made a very good point about the crowds:

The viewing area for World of Color is supposed to hold about 9,000 people. There are 800,000 annual passholders, and virtually all of them are going to want to see this show because it's supposed to be so spectacular. The math for that just isn't very good.

Even if they ran the show every night with two shows on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and nobody was allowed to watch it twice, and no tourists were allowed to watch it at all, it would still take more than two months (!) before just the APs got to see it. Throw in regular tourists, repeat viewers, and the fact that the show is likely to be canceled in bad weather, and I'd say the crowds for the show will be insane for many, many months.

Imagine, before the launch of Fantasmic, "How long will it be before the locals are bored enough with this show that we won't have to line up three hours in advance on weekends just to see it?" It's been almost 20 years and the crowds for Fantasmic still get insane.

There will be much more area to see this show from as the the Whole lake is open and in view. Plus the added stadium seating they are building.

The Show will be more Little Symphonies, visual type with music, than a story. More dancing waters.

From what I understand, there will be video projected onto water screens, and that has to be seen from certain angles only.

I kind of hope they don't have reserved seating. We already plan on doing the F! dessert package. If we end up booking another/similar package, we won't be able to eat at all the restaurants we want to try. I'd rather have a nice meal than the dessert box. Too bad I can't resist "special" things, even if they aren't all that.

My recommendation: Plan to go when SoCal Select, SoCal and Deluxe passholders are all blacked out.

When we went to the preview, it all seemed like a lot looser show, that they were talking about. Plus part of the water screens are for the Ariel ride that goes through the lake.

Add to me to the confussed. The new Little Mermaid Ride does not go through the lake but is accross from it. The two have nothing to do with the other...or am I missing something?
