World of Color Picnic Boxes

not yet. Im gonna go see it on June 6th though. But just from the videos i have seen, its amazing...

Will you be able to tell us what you know after you see it, or will we have to wait until the 11th? :goodvibes:worship:

I will be there in 16 days with my DS who just turned 10. He's too old for the kids meal, but I don't think he would be that interested in the food choices of the adult meal. Do you think they would give me a kids box for him if I paid the adult price?

The adult and the kids meals are both the same price, so you will be fine just ordering the kids meal for him. :thumbsup2

So wait...you eat and then go over to the viewing area afterwards?

You pick up your picnic meal WAY before the show. You eat it. The show is not until 9:15. When you pick up the meals, you will get a "ticket" with each box. That "ticket" will be what you use LATER to enter the viewing area. You will not be entering the viewing area until EVERYONE else also enters the area. They are going to very strictly control the crowds entering (first "corraling" those with tickets over in the Hollywood Studios backlot area and then walking them over and directing them where to go).

These picnic meals are NOT meant to be eaten DURING the show. There will be nowhere to sit. Not much light. They are meant to be eaten way prior to the show, around a normal "dinner" time. I believe the lineup/gathering for the first show will happen around 8pm.

I'd be very happy with standing at a railing because what I'm picturing is standing in a sea of 2000 people with a short self and even shorter child who's able to see absolutely nothing!

Same here. I am short myself- and my DS is a small guy for his age. I can't see how we will ever be able to get to a place where we can actually SEE World of Color over all the people standing in front of us! I really would like to go sometime during the last 2 weeks of June, but I am worried about being able to see. At least during Fantasmic, people sit down.

Thanks for explaining that for me.

So you get coraled (sp?) over and hour before the show? Once you are in the viewing area, can you leave to get a beverage or use the bathroom? Or will they not let you back in?

they will let you leave and come back in. The food carts are actually on either side of the park. Just make sure you bring your FP ticket though. There will be A LOT of guest control cast members.

We recently returned from our week-long vacation the end of July... Haven't seen any updates on this site, so figured I'd copy my review here as well... (Already posted this elsewhere:)

We actually had picked up some WoC Fastpasses from the machines the first day we were at DCA (got yellow section for 2nd showing) but didn't stay to see it.
By the time the first show started, the crowds in the entire area were so unpleasant, we "escaped" back to Disneyland to ride rides.

So, two days later, back at DCA, we picked up our picnics (and the included FastPasses) around 6:30pm that we had pre-ordered online - got WoC yellow section (again) with our 2 veggie meals and 1 Jr All-American. The veggie wraps were okay (nothing fantastic) and my husband ate both our couscous and desserts just because he was hungry and didn't want them to go to waste. (My honest opinion was the food was pretty awful - and I'm far from a picky eater!) The hummous was the best thing on my tray and it was in a cup that seemed not too much bigger than a thimble. LOL

Our grandson, however, didn't seem to have any problem with his Jr All-American (wish I had ordered that) but in the end, all three of us walked away still hungry and definitely agreeing that we should have passed on the picnics altogether... (There are MUCH better things to eat elsewhere in the park - and hot food too!)
The bags were okay - but they are definitely NOT the very beautiful blue ones shown in the original pictures. These are grocery-store type bags (green) with the WoC logo on them. (We weren't at all impressed.)

Anyway, after eating (about 7:15pm), we got in a standing line (which was already quite long), marked out in tape on the sidewalk (my husband made the comment that "Disney really went all out with this method!" LOL)...
Most people seemed to be really confused (the tape was all one color) and we constantly watched groups walk all the way up to the front only to be turned around to go all the way back to get in their respective color-section lines. :headache:

Not actually sure when they finally let us in to the viewing area, but we headed right for the front railing, bottom center of the yellow section (we had brought ponchos) and sat to wait the lonnnnnnng duration until preshow... Sitting on the boardwalk itself was rather... hard... but at least we could actually sit for a while.
As soon as they made us all stand up for the preshow - people started to press in on our position! Seriously, I literally had 3 parents shove their kids forward to push me aside at the railing! Now, I don't have a problem with letting children in front to see, but getting elbowed and having my foot stomped on was definitely not pleasant.
The lit-up colored characters were interesting to see, but the entire Pre-Show was totally a "cheerleading" "pep-squad" type of thing - getting the spectators to yell for their assigned color sections... nothing to really "watch" (or especially not much to worry about missing out on.) The only reason we had wanted to do the first viewing was to see the preshow, but we sure don't have to do that ever again! lol (If you can get a view of the characters from any other location, you have pretty much "seen" the preshow - so in our opinion, the 2nd show would be the way to go.)
By the time the actual show started our front "wet zone only" area was packed solid and it was totally fun (not!) being "babysitter" to the loose kids tromping around us at the railing.

As for WoC itself... the fountains and colors and pictures were beautiful. We honestly did like the show very much...
However, not a one of us cared to go to the trouble to see it again our entire trip. Once was definitely enough for us. (On the other hand, we did make it a point to "sit" through Fantasmic 3 times! lol!) :lmao:

In our opinion, it would have been really nice to perhaps just be able to see the colored water show from all areas of the lagoon as you stroll around... (Now that we've seen the movie clips, the fountains and music themselves would be entertaining enough)... but you couldn't even get close enough to any area to see them it was so packed. And with a lot of the rides closed - creating even less for people to do - it was all that much more crowded.

...And I don't want to even mention the rave-that-is-GlowFest with the blaring (can we say horrendous) loud music that you have to walk through as you as you exit. We literally left as soon as we could maneuver through the departing throngs and never returned to CA the rest of our 7days. :sad2:

My WoC viewing advice:
Pick up FastPasses at the machines (preferably wait until they issue them for the second show) and skip the picnic meals altogether (btw you can buy those same light-up bracelets at any trinket cart). Your picnic FastPasses are the SAME as those that come out of the FP machines - we got the same yellow section both times - and they are free. Both picnic purchasers and FastPass machine users stand in the same line (depending on the color FastPass you get).
Purchase a tasty meal of your choice anywhere else in the park and enjoy it.
And don't worry if you miss the pre-show by not doing the first viewing - ride the rides while everyone is at WoC, and when they all leave to Disneyland afterwards, saunter in for the second/third showing at your leisure.

Oh! We were the absolute closest anyone could be to the fountains (right at the railing over the water), and our ponchos were barely required. All we got was a light misting - "damp" in total... If you are protective of hair/face, etc, you might want them for sure - but we didn't really feel after the fact that they were all that necessary (except maybe over purses/bags, etc.)...
HOWEVER, there wasn't much of a wind that night, so... I'm sure on a more breezy night you *could* get downright soaked so might be a good idea to have them... just in case! ;)

Thanks for this post! :thumbsup2 My DSIS and I were just discussing whether or not we should get the picnic meal or just do fastpass. We decided to just do fast pass as we get in early anyways to get them. Now that I know that we can get the in the same section without having to buy the picnic I feel even better with the decision!:goodvibes
