I received this email today and thought it might be interesting to some of you...

OUR GOAL IS WORLD CUP SOCCER IN ORLANDO!

Dear Friends,

Do you remember the excitement, great soccer matches and the multi-million dollar economic impact when we hosted World Cup in 1994? Well, we have a chance to be a part of it again! The United States is bidding on the 2018 and 2022 games and though the games are far away, the fun and excitement of the bid process is happening right now.

The City of Orlando and Orange County, in partnership with the Central Florida Sports Commission, have made it through two rounds of bids and are one of 27 sites still in contention to host the games. But we need your help…now!

Please take a moment and go to gousabid and sign the petition to bring the World Cup back to the United States! It's towards the bottom of the home page and all you need to do is include your email address and zip code. That's it! Signing up will go a long way to show the support Orlando and Central Florida has to offer. Share this with friends, take it to work, post it on Facebook or do all you can to get as many Central Floridians to sign the petition in the next 30 days.

Thanks for being a team player and helping us make history…again…with FIFAWorld Cup soccer.

Anyway, I cheekily signed up using WDW's zip code 32830 as I would definitely like to incorporate some World Cup action in a future trip...

I can only imagine the horror of Orlando being full of Ingurland fans should this happen :(

Judging from the football shirts, they're there anyway. Thought it might be fun - but maybe I was wrong...

how cool would that be I would love it :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Sorry, I didn't mean to come across as poopooing the idea. I agree, the world cup being there might be fun, but as long as England aren't based there. Other fans will create a carnival atmosphere, England fans will turn the place into Benidorm (no offence intended to Benidorm but you get the point :) ). England fans are the main reason I don't follow the national team and usually actively want them to lose. Then again, I am the kind of person who likes to avoid following popular trends if you know what I mean :)

Thats very Judgemental, most of us do know how to behave ;)

I didn't mean to cause offence, I've just seen enough footage of tables being thrown through windows in quiet French/italian/Portuguese towns etc to last me. Euro 2008 was the best tournament for a long time, and which team wasn't there...;)

Being a Scot I won't have to worry about getting tickets to see my national team as we never get that far:rotfl2:
