DH and I have FINALLY started working out the beginning of 2009. It is something we have talked about a lot, but never went through with it until now that both DSs are in college. We have been working out 3 days a week and have settled into a nice routine that we enjoy and look forward to.

We are going to be at WDW, staying at Saratoga Springs, and we want to continue working out. I know there is a small workout area, but we thought since the weather would be much better there than here at home, we would do a brisk 3 mile walk in the mornings.

Anyone have a map of the resort showing distance or know of a "route" we can take that is approx 3 miles?

Thanks,
Karen

Caskbill has a great map of the area. Dh and I walk all the time at SSR. It is very pretty and we look forward to our morning walks.

You can even walk to OKW, as all the trails are connected.

Our route is approximately 3 miles. We start at Congress Park, walk through DTD, nature trail to OKW and back to SSR behind Carriage House, left to Grandstand, Carousel, around big lake and back to Congress Park or Carriage House for a cup of coffee.:cloud9:

The workout area is by no means small, it is one of the best on WDW property. Sometimes we end our walks at the spa, for a little stretching:goodvibes

This isn't what you want, but consider walking a set time rather than distance. If you know that three miles generally takes you 45 minutes, then just walk the property for 45 minutes. There is no part of the resort that is THAT far from your room that it would mess up your time given a random walk and then a beeline towards your room with 5 minutes remaining. Walking for time rather than distance will free you up to be more adventurous and see parts of the grounds that you might not have visited otherwise.

Here's another thought --- Don't you think that you'll do enough walking during your trip anyway? On any given day of my trip, I eclipse 3 miles by noon. Consider getting a pedometer and looking back around dinner time each day to see how far you have walked. Then, if you need some more mileage, go for it. I doubt you will.

Other things to consider:
1) You have the pool. Consider it cross training and put some time in there.
2) You have the fitness facility. Try something new there.
3) I can't recall if they rent bikes at SSR. If so, that is another nice way to add another dimension to your workouts, considering you will undoubtedly be getting your walking mileage in while at the parks.

I think the main issue to contend with while on a vacation like Disney is caloric intake. I find it nearly impossible to watch what I am eating while at Disney. Even with all of the extra walking, it doesn't help much if you are downing three full meals a day, sodas, and snacks.

Enjoy the trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The workout facility there is AWESOME. It's big and has a ton of equipment. Also, as far as walks/runs go, SSR is great. We stayed in the springs, looped the pond, ran by the preview center toward Congress park and hit the loop around the lake again. Each loop was exactly 1 mile.

It's also a great walk/run over to OKW. Absolutely amazing views, and if I can find that map, I'll come back and post it.

Here's a good site to bookmark for future reference. It has places at all resorts to walk. http://disneyrunning.com/wdwtrails.html

Congrats on working out! That's great you guys are sticking with it. :thumbsup2

Rutgers1 can you suggest a reliable pedometer to purchase ? DH & I mail ordered an inexpensive one ( read : we were being cheap ! ) couple years ago and ended up tossing it shortly after because it didn't work more than it did. We're recently working towards getting as fit as we can be & would like to pick up another. Many thanks :goodvibes

You could also walk down past all the DTD hotels and back through DTD.

DH and i were just talking about eating a limited amount while there. We are on the meal plan, which I think will actually help. It will limit us to one full meal without the temptation to get appetizers. Also, we can use our snack credits for fruit or something somewhat healthy and the counter service can be selective as well. Thanks for you info that you shared!
