Working on Weight Loss During Training—New Year New Us!

Tomorrow is a new day and somehow someway I'm going to do this!

We can do this!!!!!!!!!!!![/QUOTE]

YES YES YES, NOT JUST YES, BUT YEA BABY!!!!!! We need to believe in ourselves and in each other!

Dave:cheer2:

Good Evening, Everyone!

I am so happy -- I am finally online at home again! Now, I promise I will come and post, because I'm out of excuses. And since I have to post, and it will be too embarrassing if I'm not doing what I should, I guess I'll just have to eat right and exercise!:goodvibes

I was writing an introductory post about myself on another thread, and I realized that my work life has really changed over the last six months -- I am constantly being asked to learn and do new things, after doing the same things for a long time. This is not a bad thing, but I'm thinking all that growing at work has had me working slower at home, and not realizing why I'm so very tired. Now I'm starting to think about how I can make my life more balanced. I love my job, but I do have to compartmentalize so I can get some focus back on me.

Dave -- Thanks for the awesome advice. Tomorrow is a new day, and there's no reason not to have a fresh start. I certainly give one to everyone else in my life, I deserve one, too!

Kristi, Minnie, Susan, Disneybelle, Cam, Tiff -- Now that I am online at home, I will be coming here way to often so I have a place to report my training. I know there is the main run/walk thread, but it is so large, I feel like I'm lost there. I want to get back into it, too, right now this is more manageable for me. I'm hoping you guys (and everyone else), will share even if you're having a bad day, week, month, whatever. This is the only thread I've seen for training/weight loss, and I was thrilled when I found it. Thanks for being patient with my ramblings.

I too am at my highest weight other than pregnancy, and unfortunately the baby didn't weigh 50 lbs...and that was ten years ago, so the excuse is running a bit thin:lmao:

I will eat right and work out the rest of this week, and I will weigh myself next Wednesday morning. Then the following Wednesday, I will tell you if I made a change. Committing to just that much is a big step for me, but it's one I need to take. Thanks for holding my handing while I step out on the ice!

Maria

Hi everyone. Just been lurking (as I usually do) until recently. I have been walking on a treadmill 3-4 times a week for 1 to 1.5 miles (up from nothing approximately 1 month ago). The weight loss has been slow (constantly falling off the wagon), but I am hoping I have turned a corner. I have just gotten my weight to begin with a "3" again (no, thats not a typo; yes there are two digits that follow). Hopefully by Jan. 2008 I will be closer to 300 (under would be even nicer) than the other hundred. I started at my heaviest ever after the hip replacements and related complications, and am determined to complete the 2008 Donald. (Although that Inaugrual October 13K Whose Name Cannot be Revealed sounds like fun and is more in tune with my clock--night owl, not morning person-, I think that might be pushing my distance "racing" debut.)

Dave, I also agree that your posts are inspiring and educational. Plus, if you are willing to wear a lime green shirt that apparently requires even the wearers to have protective eyewear (the foregoing is based solely on what I have read on these boards as I did not decide to participate until too late for the first shirt order) to the Senior Nationals, I won't have to even think about embarrassing myself in the Donald as long as I give it my best shot. (I am also glad to see that Erica is home.)

When I went to the State Senior Games, which is the qualifing round for the nationals, I didn't have a chance of medaling and going forward. The 'good' racewalkers wouldn't even talk to me since I was a self taught rookie. When the race was done and I was the third place bronze medal winner all of a sudden they were willing to talk to me like I belonged. I dared to dream. When I stand at the start of the Nationals, against the best in the nation, I won't have a chance of medaling, but I dare to dream.

Yay everybody! It doesn't matter if you think you are doing poorly or not, we have all been there and will support you no matter what! Weight loss is one of the hardest battles most of us fight and only those who are in it with us can really understand what we go through.

I had a great day yesterday. I had two Slimfasts and a great lunch with salad and blue cheese dressing, grilled mahi mahi and sorbet. My nephew is a chef at a really nice restaurant and he made the mahi for me. Yummy! Then I went to the gym and had an excellent workout with my trainer. I am so proud to say that I can hold my side planks for 30 seconds and my front plank for one minute!

Anybody else trying to justify the October 13K at WDW? I am trying so hard to make myself be responsible but I REALLY want to do it.

nepatsfan73 - Welcome and I will overlook your questionable taste in football teams! :rotfl2: Glad you decided to join us.

I was thinking of starting a new thread to get the excitement back, but I guess we are all coming back on. This thread is getting long, isn't it.

I have started using Sparkpeople to track my eating... and welll... I am eating too much. My calorie intake has been 200-300 calories higher per day than it should be. So that would be why I am able to maintain and not lose. I am working at trying to find what to eat that satisfies me... oh and stop eating out so much because that is killing me.

Also, now that I am gearing up towards the 1/2 marathon in May, I am more hungry. Ughhhh.... this is where I started failing with the WDW 1/2.

Jen Yes this thread is getting long, you could start a new and fresh one you could call it "the fresh start on weight loss and training" or something like that.

Jen -- I have the same problem. I eat too many calories, and I know it. I eat all day, and then I want to eat all night. I have to eat less during the day and more at night, or firmly cut myself off after dinner. I just seem to think I'm hungry all the time. And we eat out much more than we should! I feel your pain! I guess the size of this thread doesn't intimidate me because I'm also on the 150's club (it's a goal, trust me) thread, and it's been going for thousands of posts.

But, if you start a new one, I promise to post there, too! :goodvibes

Hello Maria how are you Lady. Where are our team mates?

Each of us knows how tough it is to succeed, that's why there is unconditional understanding here. Win lose or draw we all are standing up to our demons. Some times we can beat him down other times we are beat down but true courage is never giving up.

You get stronger everytime you don't give in.

Hey Maria! I totally understand where you are coming from. In fact, some of the popular diet plans out there like SouthBeach recommend that you do eat several times a day at regular intervals to keep the hunger pangs away. I did SouthBeach before my Disney Cruise and I found that a piece of string cheese (or nuts) mid morning and again between lunch and dinner helped a lot. I also saved my dessert, which was flavored ricotta cheese or a sf fudge bar, until TV time in the evenings. Now I have sf jello at night if I get the urge to eat. Oprah's diet guy says nothing to eat after 7:30 but I don't even get home from the gym until then so that's out for me.

This week I have been on track with diet. I will go to the gym tonight for speed work, which I HATE and then my long outside run on Saturday. I am taking my niece to the Melting Pot for her birthday dinner tomorrow night but I think I can eat fairly healthy there. But Easter Sunday is another story. My family is going for brunch at a place that serves MASHED POTATO OMELETTES! And they are as fattening - and delicious - as they sound. I only get that once or twice a year so I am totally going there!

I'm at a weight plateau right now and am hoping for a whoosh soon. It sure is frustrating doing all the right things and seeing no progress this week. Patience is the key!

I am heading out shortly for an impromtu trip to NYC. And we all know how easy it is to eat healthy on the road... I am just going to do the best I can, and live with it. Hopefully, after the tv show taping tomorrow morning (praying it doesn't go all day!), we can do some sightseeing and alot of walking around the city. That should help balance things out, I think.

Gotta run & get ready for the roadtrip - hang in there guys!

My sweet lady fights her weight demon all the time. Since she was in the hospital for a week and then sick with my cold her training has suffered and so of course her weight started sneaking back up on her.

We have a deal, keep walking and training and stay strong and healthy. What the scale says doesn't matter. If you don't let it rule your life you can keep the weight demon in perspective.

Try just staying healthy and strong and fit and stop sweating the scale. Do the right stuff and quit sweating the darn scale fluctuations.

Dave:)

Hi Everybody!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter/Passover!

I was very restrained in my eating today. No snacks at all...and no big portions at any meal. Shopping for an Easter outfit yesterday was sobering...let's just say I think I'll be toeing the eating line this week, just thinking back to that eyeopener.

I did my long run (it's really a jog, at about 4.5mph on the TM) yesterday -- 3.25 miles. I know that's not very long, but it's my longest to date! Next Saturday I'm going for 3.50.

I'm going to weigh on Wednesday, so I'll have a baseline again. I have to start with something, so I know I'm losing. Even if I'm losing really slow, I should see some progress. At least that's what I'm telling myself. More important, I am getting back to my training. I am not going to lose another month!

Our fridge is stocked with carrots, cucumbers, grapes, sugar snap peas, and I have bananas on the counter. There is no reason for me to have an unhealthy snack.

My eating plan for tomorrow is:

B -- cream of wheat & glass of milk
S -- Kashi bar, sugar snap peas, 32 oz. hot tea (over the morning)
L -- ham sandwich, cucumbers, banana, calcium-fortified oj
S -- grapes, cheese, 16 oz. iced tea
D -- tacos, cherry pie ala mode, 16 oz. iced tea

I included the "water" so you could see my liquid intake, too. For those with way more training experience than I -- does this seem reasonable? Am I eating too much? I don't like plain water, is it o.k. to just drink tea? I can make myself drink flavored water if that is better. I'm just looking for any advice at this point. I have to get the scale moving!

I'm also running for 35 minutes on the TM. Just when I thought it was going to warm up...

I hope everyone has a fantastic night! Tomorrow let's hit the ground running! :)

Maria

Hi Maria, hang in there pretty lady.

Are you going to do the Tower of Terror event on the 27th of Oct? Erica and I are not going for time but fun so we would love to get a walking group together. We can all walk it, enjoy all the special effects then have more fun a the MGM Twilight Zone Party.

We are booked into the Swan for the week. Anyone up for a week of fellowship, fun and exercise walking?

Hi Dave!

I wish I could do it, it sounds like fun. I had to beg dh to go to Disney for our vacation at the end of August, so there's no way a trip around Halloween would fly. Our ds9 always has a ton of Halloween activities, and we wouldn't take him away or me from him at that time, so no trip for me.

I know you will have a wonderful time! I hope Erica is still feeling better all the time. It is hard to get going again after a setback.

I'm off to get a little rest before tomorrow. I was late getting home from work and my workout didn't happen, but I'm hopeful for tomorrow...

Have a great night!

That's ok Maria we will save the hugs till we meet you in January.

Dave:)

Hey all... I am tracking my eating and exercise at Sparkpeople and although I am at the high end of Calories, I am doing better than when I didn't track!!

Maria - When are you going to WDW in August? We are right now planning a family vacation for sometime around August 18 - 25. We are trying to find a good flight, then we are booked. I am bummed because there is a free dining plan promotion that starts 8/26. We can't go that late because our school starts usually the Thursday before Labor Day (No Clue WHY!!!)

Dave - Are you doing the 1/2 or Full in January? I am contemplating the Full and wondering if my poor body can do it.

WHERE IS CAM????????????

OK, work is nuts!

Jen we are doing the Goofy so we will see you at whichever you do. Can't wait.

Some information I booked the Swan at 169 per weekday night and 279 per weekend night. Another wisher got a rate of 169 for all the nights weekend included so I sent a mail to Bob Varley the travel specialist and he gave me the 169 per night rate saving me 350 with tax because sat/sun/mon were at the 279 rate. Yeah!!!

Dave:)
