Working on Weight Loss During Training—New Year New Us!

Cam - Your weigh in was awesome :cool1: I know you will make your goal this week :cheer2: And thank you for the kind words on my migrane. I'm still battling (over a week now) but it's not as bad as before. My neck/back is out so I know that's part of the problem but no time to get to the chiropractor.

Jen - Way to go on that record!!!!!!!! :cheer2:

Kristi - Hope your feeling better soon :wizard: :grouphug:

This was a quick drive by :drive: hope to be back later!

Oh happy news!!! I stepped on the scale and it budged down another 1.5lbs!!!!! :cool1:  :cool1:

Hey all... I am back on track this morning. I am planning to hit the Y at lunch for a 30 minute mini workout. I leave for my trip to Houston tomorrow morning, plane leaves at 6:00 AM  . I am packing oatmeal packets and bread and PB for my breakfasts. Also, some granola bars for the mid day munchies. Wish me luck. If I can get all my water in, I should be in good shape. Water is hard for me when I travel.

B: scrambeled egg whites with mushrooms and ham, coffee with cream
S: Orange (if needed)
L: Salad with chick peas, 1 cup leftover casserole (planned)
D: Beef stir fry with brown rice (Planned)

Good morning everyone!

First of all congrats to Cam and Minnie on your losses. That is so awesome! I'm sure seeing that scale move in the right direction will keep you motivated this week. Heck your losses keep ME motivated!

I got measured on Sunday at the gym and I had lost 1 1/2" on my waist in two weeks and am now down to 30 1/2". My goal is 28" so I am getting there! I'm still scale phobic though so I have no idea how much I weigh. I think I'll give my self another month and then will step on the dreaded scale.:scared1:

Got in the gym this AM at 5:15 for 35 minutes on the treadmill and stretching. I am supposed to be able to jog 2 1/2 miles on Friday with no walking but I am a bit nervous that I won't be able to do it. The longest I jog now is 5 minutes. We'll see!

So far I have had a whole wheat Brueggers bagel with light cream cheese and a cup of coffee with Half and Half and Equal. No snack since breakfast was a bit late.

Susan -- you impress me so much -- it takes a lot of discipline to get to the gym that early. I hope you are feeling very proud of yourself! When you go that early, do you eat something before you go? How do you fuel your workout? Awesome lunch choice, too!

Cam, I am not hungry when I get up so I do not eat before I work out. I am usually starving when I get home though!

Take care and have a healthy day,
Susan

Hey everyone. You are really hanging in there. One thing I love about this board is it gives everyone the gump to keep going even if we get a little "off" plan. One thing I'm trying to break myself of is the all or nothing mentality. It used to be one bite off plan and I would give up the whole day for tomorrow, or even worse, the whole weekend until the "monday".

I managed to avoid the pie monster on Friday! Yea! I have to admit it was only partly willpower. When I went into the breakroom that afternoon it was competely gone. Whew! Dodged that bullet.

My son is getting a lot stronger. He doesn't completely fall apart toward the end of the run like he used to. He's even starting to take a certain pride in his gain.

I hope everyone has a great week!

One and a half inches in the waste WOW. That's really something. I'm kind of scale phobic also and have decided to way on the 1st of every month. That's this thurday! My goal for weightloss is about 5 lbs per month as I work up my endurance.

Best of luck to everyone. You are so inspiring!

Cam – How did your day go??? :wave2:

Jen – Safe travels and check in with us when you can! Good luck pixiedust:

Susan – Thank you for your kind words! 1.5” on your waist in two weeks is fabulous!!!!

Texa – Great job on avoiding that pie!!!!! I used to be the same way thinking the week was lost if I went a little off plan. Now I’m trying to allow myself to be okay if the day wasn’t perfect and move on.

Yesterday for example wasn’t my best. I had Wendy’s Frescata ham & cheese (open faced) w/ there yogurt & granola which is loaded with sugar. I was very careful the rest of the day though (even though I had major hunger attacks all afternoon).

I made some veggie shells (nice yet tiny organic section in my grocery store) with a low sugar meat sauce and it turned out great!

Today is going to be another problem day though. We have a going away lunch where they are ordering in pizza :scared1: . I made that cheesecake tart (in one pan though) with a nut crust and sf cool whip as a desert. I’m going to avoid those darn cookies another gal brought in!!!::yes::

WISHing everyone an OP day!!!!

And check in everyone let us know how it's going and if we can help. I know we can do this if we stick together!!! pixiedust:

Hi, everyone! Sounds like we all have our struggles but we are determined and strong enough to get back on track.

As for me, here is a cross-post from my journal detailing my messed-up evening:
keenercam said:
Yesterday was NOT a good food day. I forgot to get in my healthy oils and was short one fruit/veggie. I took a snack upstairs with me when I went up to watch the Nora Roberts movie on Lifetime. I avoided the lite popcorn because I know my weight is always up the day after I eat it, but instead ate something that was not core and that I really didn't need. Even as I was putting it into a bowl, carrying it, eating it, I was asking myself what I was doing and why. The short answer was "I want it." I wasn't depressed or stressed or anything like that. I wasn't even hungry. I just plain old wanted it, even as I acknowledged I was potentially sabotaging my weigh in goal for tonight. And even then, I was thinking "this is real life. I am not going to go the rest of my life without eating the treats I want and if I want this, I am going to have it." And yet, I know myself. If I could have just NOT taken it up with me, and had resorted to the diet iced tea and the sugar free gum I had on my end table, I would have gotten past the desire/craving and would have felt good about having gotten past it. Instead, I am dealing with regret and frustration with myself.
Okay, I'll get past it, move on, and just hope the calories and sodium don't cause too much damage on the scale tonight. According to my scale, I'm only down .4 from last Tuesday morning on my home scale. I am hoping I can at least not go up today before WI and hope the same .4 loss shows up on the WW scale tonight.

Food today:
B: coffee w/skim milk; (fat free yogurt with strawberries)
L: [green salad w/tuna in water w/olive oil & italian dressing]
S: [banana]
D: [chicken breast w/corn & salsa]

Healthy Eating/Core Guidelines:
2 fat free dairy:
water (48 oz): 30 oz by 11:15 a.m
multi-vitamin:
fruits/veggies (5):
healthy oils (2 tsp):

So, game plan is to drink tons of water today in the hopes of flushing away some of the sodium bloating and to keep me from over-eating. Guess I'll have to work toward meeting my WI goal next week, instead of this week. :sad1:
I hope everyone else has a great day.
Minnie -- stay away from the cookies, WISH friend! You are strong enough to do that!

Good morning, WISHers.
In the interest of full disclosure, I'm admitting right now that I managed to eat nearly 2700 calories yesterday. Twice my normal amount. Luckily I journaled it so I can see where things started to go awry. I leave for MCO tonight was trying to eat up some of the fresh food in my refrigerator :) I'm not sure how 3 servings of pretzels with peanut butter to dip them in came into the picture.
Today is a new day, and this time tomorrow I'll be checking into Pop Century! I'm going to attempt to log most of what I eat but I'm not going to try for my usual 1300 cals/day. Actually when I travel alone I forget to eat half the time, so maybe this will be one of those trips. There are a couple of restaurants I want to hit, but I'm not going to do the whole ap/entree/dessert thing. Of course, I haven't made any ADRs either so we'll see where I end up eating :)
I'm taking my laptop with me on this trip so I'll be online every now and then.
Have a good week, everyone.

Awww Cam thanks for the support! It means a ton  I stayed far far away from those cookies!!!!!

Well I didn’t pass on the pizza but I did eat sensibly. I had one tiny piece with crust and then skimmed the toppings off of another. Kept clear of those darn cheese sticks that tried to draw me in to so a mini victory for me. Though the scale was up a little this a.m. but I figured it would be. I’ll be very careful the rest of the week!

The cheesecake tart was a huge success so thank you CB for posting that recipe! I brought full sugar cherry pie filling since I can’t stand cherries and knew I wouldn’t be tempted and it helped disguise the Splenda low fat part to the guys in the office.

Today’s plan:
Diet Dew
B – oatmeal muffin & yogurt (love this no snack needed)
L – left over veggie pasta with meat sauce
S – yogurt & granola
D – haven’t a clue yet. Its just DF and me and I’ve got a hair apt so we’ll see.
D – cheesecake tart

How is everyone else doing????????? Please check in!!!!!

blueroses– have a great time at WDW! I think you will find there are so many healthy, delicious food options that it will be easy to be “good.” I LOVED the roasted veggie wrap at the POP food court. You’ll have to tell us about all the good stuff you discover.

Hi, Minnie! Great job on avoiding the cookies! So many non-scale victories to celebrate! Your food looks good today, too.

My weigh in was good last night, but not great. Down 1.2 and according to the WW scale, now only 1.4 pounds away from my lowest weight ever. It is so hard to count only the WW scale for that goal, because I have seen it on the home scale. So, I use the home scale to see how I am doing day to day, relative to what I ate and how much I exercised. But what will really make me feel accomplished is when I get out of this “decade” on the WW scale, and that is 6 pounds away. I have been up and down in this “decade” for almost a year and I am just so sick of seeing those same first 2 numbers on the scale. So, my objective is to get down 6 more pounds on the WW scale by WI on 2/27. Four weeks to lose 6 pounds. I know it sounds easy, but my body just does NOT budge that much!

BTW, I didn't eat anything but an apple and a banana between lunch and when I arrived at the Y at 8:15 pm (6+ hours). And I only had water at the gym. I did okay on the TM (5K in 41:35, nearly 2 minutes faster than my PR), but I was very tired and had no energy. I didn't want to eat before my weigh in, but I should have taken something with me to eat right after I weighed in, even if it meant stepping outside (only water allowed in meeting room). Hopefully, by writing it down here, I will be reminded next week that I have to fuel my workout, even if I am reluctant to eat before WI.

So, where are all our other WISHers? Judy? Heather? Carrie? Jen? dkp? Kristi? (okay, I know Kristi is still sick, so we'll cut her a break! ;) ), Dana? Susan? Kathy (how is the apartment thing going, sweetie?), etc., etc.

We miss you guys! Please come back!!! :grouphug:

Hey everyone. I've officially decided to do South Beach before intense training begins in August. I'd like to lose about 30 pounds or so before then. Anyone else here do south beach?

Hi, Texa! I think maybe Kathy (Valentine) does SBD. You may want to find a post by her in this thread and send her a PM. I am sure she can provide lots of ideas & advice. She has lost a lot of weight and looks absolutely fabulous and fit!
Good luck and so nice to see you here!

Hi WISHers,

Just a quick glance at a few posts and I see that many of us have struggled during this last week. You can add me to the group, too. My dh loves to bake with our girls, and they made a cake and then followed it up with some brownies. So hard to stay away from.

However, I am encouraged. Today, the last day of January, I am 5 pounds lighter than I was on the first day of the month. Also, I have been faithful to do my elliptical almost every morning. (I think I missed 4 mornings total.) Now, I go slowly but I still do it. Also, the first timed mile I did this month was 15:14. This morning I finished my mile in 14:22. I hope to continue this schedule and finish the Minnie 5K in about 42 minutes. I know that is just under the time limit, but it'll be a big deal to me.

I'm hoping to be able to continue working out, but I am starting a new job. I have orientation tomorrow and then will work 2 days a week for 8 weeks. After that, I can just tell them when I'm available to work and go in if needed. So, after the first 8 weeks, it should be fine. It is a long (about 80 miles) commute and long drives are hard for me because I just want to get in the car and eat. I will have to work on that, so we'll see how it goes.

Well, I'm off to read some posts. I hope to catch up with everyone soon. Have a great day.

Hey everyone. I've officially decided to do South Beach before intense training begins in August. I'd like to lose about 30 pounds or so before then. Anyone else here do south beach?

Yep I'm a south beacher :thumbsup2

Any questions feel free to ask away. BTW - If you are starting with Ph1 (which is not recommended for athletes) then you may find that you are very tired and it will have an effect on endurance. A very strict Ph2 might be better though you will not see the "big number weight loss" in the first 2 wks that you see on Ph1. If you are a carb nut Ph1 will help you loose those refined "white" carb cavings.

Good luck!

Cam & Eva - Congrats on the weight loss!!!

Hello, all! Just checking in after my conference. I managed to get sick after my hotel stay, which occasionally happens when I travel. Over the past couple of days I've spent a lot of time sleeping and not exercising. I haven't eaten much either, although I hardly think the trade-off is worthwhile.

I'm better now--just a little achy, with the remnants of a sore throat--so I worked out today. I'm still on schedule for the Couch Potato to 5K, which I added into my regular workout routine. In case anyone's interested, I'm now in week three. It was good to be back in the groove, in a familiar gym. The hotel fitness area was inside the pool area, which meant it was hot and smelled of chlorine. My eyes watered throughout my workouts. Really, it wasn't a fitness area but a nod to the idea that some people might want to exercise while traveling. Not a pleasant experience, and I ended up substituting a mall-walking hour for one of my planned sessions.

I weighed myself yesterday, and I've lost a grand total last week of...(drumroll please) 1 pound. That's a whopping 2 pounds for the month. I'm okay with that, as I'm trying to focus on healthier lifestyle choices and January was a pretty hectic month. I'm just taking it day by day, you know?

So far today:

B: Oatmeal with cinnamon and raisins...mmm. Pineapple juice.
L: Tomato Basil Soup, salad, bread, and....water!
S: No snack, I'm still not that hungry.
D: I have no idea yet....although I have to admit I'll probably lean toward something comfort-foodish. I'm weak, I tell you, weak!

I wanted to catch up with you all and celebrate your news/applaud you for working through your challenges. I'll probably miss some accomplishments, but I hope I don't overlook anyone:

blueroses: Congratulations on the looser clothes, doing so well on your monthly running goals (and getting outside), and for keeping track of your eating habits. I love the suggestion for tofu noodles, as I love tofu! It's refreshing to hear you like tofu. I seem to meet more people who prefer faux meat to tofu; I've been a vegetarian long enough that, frankly, I can't tell if these products taste like meat at all. (DH says no, but for him it's a texture thing.)

Cam: Whoo-hoo! for the PR. That' awesome, and I love how you're providing details about your progress. It gives me a real sense of how I might approach things. Plus, I think keeping track of our accomplishments is so very important. And another congratulations on what you've already accomplished with the weight loss....I know that your progress will continue. 6 pounds, huh? I'm rooting for you!

Jen: I think you showed incredible restraint with the work stress, which is one of my biggest challenges. I love you cooking tips, too, as I get the sense your whole family is involved in making healthier choices. And another PR....keeping track of your running goals is much more fun for me than keeping track of what I eat. Keep posting your times!

Kristi: Sorry to hear you've been sick. Me too. I feel your pain. Actually, I feel my illness, but you get the idea.

Susan: I love the idea of measuring inches instead of, or in addition to, weighing oneself. I look forward to hearing how Friday goes; I'm sure you can do it.

Texa: I agree, the boards help us move beyond the "all or nothing" mentality. I tend to be that kind of person, and I've found this thread really helps. And the pie monster lurks in my office kitchen, too. I try not to go in there when I'm feeling stressed out. I'm glad you fought it off, even if you had some help. Nothing wrong with having temptation removed, right?

Eva: Way to go with the elliptical and cutting time from your run. I really love the way you're all keeping track of your improvements. The 5 pounds are an added bonus. Yeah!

Well, it looks like we have a lot of WISHers who are doing quite well with both exercise and weight loss! :woohoo:

I'm down 2 pds. this week, but I think it's due to the fact that I've been sick....hopefully I will keep it off.:cool1: Have a good weekend.

Hi everyone!

Minnie - I'm doing South Beach Phase II right now. I try to schedule my meals as 6 small meals per day. It gets harder when I get busy but I lost 2.5 pounds this week! :cool1: I consider this my "prep" phase with the weight loss and building up of endurance. Thanks!

It is great to feel like you have that accountability "my gang" factor.

You guys are great! I look forward to coming here and seeing what everyone is up to every day. Pretty soon I'll get better at keeping up with everyone.

Best of luck for the rest of this week.

dkp - Did you make it through dinner okay? Traveling and staying OP is so tough!

Monte - Awesome on the 2lbs though I sure wish you hadn't have been sick on top of it! Great to see you back here and feeling better :thumbsup2

Texa - Ph2 is a great place to be on SBD ::yes::

Cam - Sending a truck load of pixiedust: and :grouphug: that your appointment goes well this afternoon!!!!

Yesterday I did okay. Had a hair apt so I didn't get home till late but ended up still eating OP. I had a tough time sleeping last night so I really need to watch the evening caffeine. I have another apt this evening so it'll be another grab on the go. I'll try to be careful.

Today's menu:
Diet Dew
B - oatmeal muffin and yogurt
L - Wendy's chicken, pecan, cranberry salad
S - yogurt
D - haven't a clue yet
D - cheesecake tart

Have a great day everyone!!! And check in please :grouphug:

monte: I hope you're feeling better and that your loss of 2 lbs. is here to stay!

Texa: Congrats on the 2.5 lbs! I dont know anything about the SBD, but I think the 6 small meals idea is a solid one; I need to adapt my eating habits to that.

Minnie: Ah, the evening caffeine...yeah, it tends to be one of my best friends, esp. in the diet soda form. Good to hear you've been OP, even with your busy schedule--and you sound like you're always busy. Good luck with today's eating habits, although it looks like you're being conscientious.

As for me...yesterday's dinner was a falafel sandwich and a greek salad. No rice. Yea, and a can of soda, as the caffeine-withdrawal headache had started. Later I had a cup of cocoa because my throat was sore, it's chocolate, and I wanted it. I stopped at one mug, and I convinced myself that I felt better for drinking it, so it was a good end to the day.

Today's menu:
B: Cereal, 2% milk, banana
L: PB on cracked-wheat bread, yogurt
S: A serving of carrots with a little hummus
D: Black-bean & wheat burrito, brown rice, salad
S/D: Fruit, probably pineapple or an apple. (Where the heck is the fruit in my diet????)

So, how's everyone else doing--diet, exercise, health, otherwise??? We're waiting to hear from you! :wave2:

Shout-out to Cam! Welcome back! :cheer2:

I hope you're celebrating the GOOD news from your doctor's appointment--that you're going to continue to get stronger and faster (maybe I'm reading more into your determination than I am his statements).

I just read your post on the other thread--way to go with working out! Now that's what I call a healthy outlet--great times, too! You should be doubly proud for turning to the TM instead of the cookies; if I had the same day I don't know that I'd be so strong. You rock! :cool1:
