Working on Weight Loss and getting Lean!

Good morning ladies. I hope all of you are well. We are out of school again. The blizzard of the year is hitting us today, so they closed the schools last night. No sledding today though. It's cold and windy and the snow will be coming down all day long. :sad1:

Maria: How did the weigh in go? You are doing a great job sticking to a running schedule and planning out your food. That really is the key.
I'm so sorry about the shelter. I am a declawer myself, so I guess I wouldn't be able to get a cat now either. I guess they'd rather have them spending their lives in cages. I'm sure you'll get something soon from a different place. Do you have to get a shelter kitty? There are lots of free kittens advertised.
They sure are touting this storm. I hope it's not as bad as they are saying. We'll see. It's hitting us first, so I'll let you know. ;)

Jackie: Nothing like a pregnancy eye opener to put it all in perspective, huh? I used to smoke, and when I quit 6 or 7 years ago, I ended up weighing what I did when I was 8 months pregnant (never made it to 9 months). That's the day I joined WW! :lmao: I'm restarting weight loss today, so maybe we can do it together! :thumbsup2
Hi. My name is Tandy and I am a book addict! There, I said it. :rotfl: I picked up some fluff yesterday, Janet Evanovich's new one and I'm halfway through already. I'll probably finish it today, since we have the snow day. I don't actually like the Stephanie Plum character, because I think she's incredibly stupid, but I just wanted an easy, entertaining book. I also got 'Down River' by John Hart, but have no idea if it will be good. I've never read any of his stuff.

Debra: Well, that's the longest 'quick post' I've ever read.
Congrats on your pound. Hey, it's a loss, not a gain. That's great! I get to start over again, so hey, you're up on me.
I'm still jealous, even if most of the travel is for work! ;) And, Frank doesn't dislike vacations, he dislikes paying for them. He's just a cheapskate. He calls it being Scottish, but he's a cheapskate. I just got him into moderates at Disney the last 2 trips. ;)

Beth: Thanks for the encouragement. I am jumping on the wagon! :thumbsup2
How did the birthday party go? Did you resist most temptations?

Vicky: I hope everything is going well for you. How are you doing with not running? Are you going crazy yet?

AFM: Today is day 1! I have decided that it's time to get organized and get my butt in gear. I do much better with a plan. And, I like to have goals. So, I now have readjusted my goal weight and running goals, and need to lose 16 pounds by summer. I'm giving up all sugar except on Sundays. I will have a small meal off for the super bowl, because how often does your team make it? :cheer2: Then, back on track. I am going to try to keep my miles up. I think I'll run 4 to 5 days a week and I just signed up for a once a week boot camp starting in 3 weeks. Plus, zumba once a week. I'm determined to get it done.
Part of why I'm more motivated is that we had a birthday party for my stepson last night (he's 31!!!!!!). We were talking to Harrison about our wedding and he wanted to see my wedding dress. So, I pulled it out and it reminded Frank and me of how stinking skinny I was when we got married. So, now the dress is in the dining room. I will walk by it all day long.

I have been doing some SERIOUS thinking about nursing school. I've contacted the college, and Frank and I are going there next week for an information night. It's a 2 year RN associates degree program. I am too late to sign up for fall 2011, but I need to retake the ACT, take the CNA certification program (only 3 weeks long) and take a chemistry and math class before I can do the program anyway. I REALLY want to work in an assisted living community or do hospice care. Just trying to weigh it all out right now. But, big changes could be happening here! :thumbsup2

Oh, I forgot to ask: Does anyone know how to get grease off of Uggs? We had a turkey accident last night in the kitchen, and I think they are ruined. I cried a lot because I don't want to have to replace them. So, I thought I'd ask. Maybe there's a magic 'trick' that someone knows. :confused3

I hope everyone survives the storm. I'm sure it'll miss some of you, but the path is large! :scared1:

Hey Leanistas!

I didn't get to run this am because I had to leave for work early. It's just as well, I'm going home at noon. I probably won't run today since I expect to be home tomorrow. If I feel up to it I'm going to do my 10M tomorrow. My throat is wicked sore, I can't believe how painful it is. I even took an Aleve -- which has helped some.

Last night's weigh in was not exactly a success -- I was up .2. I'm looking at that as statistically insignificant, if I had lost .2 I also wouldn't feel like I'd done anything. But, I'm considering it progress. I usually gain 2-4lb w/TOM, so that means I probably do have a loss this week, I just can't see it. I'm hoping that next week will see one. A Very wise WISHer (Corinna) told me that it's not tonight's weigh in that's a concern, it's the one 6 months or a year from now. I'm going to keep following the program, and I will see success. I may not make 10 lbs in 3 weeks, but I just might make it in 4 or 5, which would be a vast improvement over what I've been managing! :thumbsup2

Tandy -- We're not that attached to getting a kitten from a shelter, we have our own vet who we would rather do the neutering, etc., the issue is it just doesn't seem to be kitten season. I can't find any, and I've been asking everyone I know. I even mentioned it at the hair salon, and trust me, those ladies know everything! ;) I'm told that Mar-May there should be kittens everywhere, so we're just going to have to be patient and let them reproduce! :rotfl: Thanks for the support, like I said I had no idea it was so controversial. :confused3 Nursing school, Wow! That sounds like a major (and rewarding!) undertaking. We'll stay tuned, I can't wait to hear more! Don't own any Uggs, so can't help you there...

Jackie -- Well, that makes me feel better. I can't imagine why a home that could support two dogs where they would get along couldn't have them :confused3 I guess it doesn't have to always make sense to us! I can see the case for Team Edward, but Jacob melts my heart. Actually, I do think Bella doesn't deserve Jacob or Edward. She needs to be a bit more plucky and a bit less willing to sit in her room and mope, but that's just me...

So, while there was school today, it looks like there won't be any tomorrow and possibly Thursday. I don't mind staying home, I'm just hoping to not be sick. Maybe if I get a really good nap in this afternoon, it will move along.

I am also a confessed book addict! I went through my favorite authors list (where I track what should be coming out and make sure I get my requests into the library. I have 3 more books to pick up there, Buttercream Bump Off, Fundraising the Dead, and The Reckless Bride. Not a heavy one in the bunch! At home right now I'm reading Tim Gunn's Golden Rules, and The Brazen Bride. I checked out Cleopatra, A Life, but ds was with dh when he picked it up, and he started reading it. The kid loves ancient history...I also just finished Crocodile on the Sandbank,Dirty Rotten Tendrils, and Naked Heat, the latest Castle tv show book. My request list includes Awakened, The Body in the Gazebo, Buffalo West Wing, Chapter and Hearse, Death of a Chimney Sweep, A Decadent Way to Die, Devil's Food Cake Murder, Killer on a Hot Tin Roof, Scones & Bones, Shadowfever, and The Werewolf Upstairs. Orson Scott Card also has a new one, but it sounds so similar to the Ender series, I think I'll wait awhile. I usually try to have something intellectual in the bunch, but don't happen to right now...

Maria :upsidedow

Hi ladies! I hope everyone gets a snow day tomorrow! The forecast is calling for about 30cm of snow (just under 12 inches) so I doubt we'll get one. Still I'm keeping my fingers crossed :)

Maria - Hope your sore throat gets better pixiedust: but if it doesn't, remember to take it easy :) I wanted to read the Tim Gunn book for a while. I'm waiting for it to come out on paperback. Maybe I should get a Kindle or an ebook reader. How do you like it? I loved watching his show 'Tim Gunn's Guide to Style' - I like his approach a lot better than WNTW. I'll have to check out some of the other books you have listed. You must have a huge library at home :)

I haven't done W&D before but I have done other races that start in the evening and the one thing I like about them is that I don't have to try and cram in food and water before the start. But I'm not sure about running the whole thing in the dark either.

I wouldn't sweat the 0.2 lbs either... that's practically the scale's margin of error. And I totally agree with Corinna!

Tandy - I'm so glad you're looking into the nursing program. It sounds really interesting! I hope you're able to learn a lot from the information session. I went to an info session on naturopathy and didn't think it was for me :( I am looking at some nutrition programs and culinary management programs as well so hopefully I'll find something I like :)

Not sure about cleaning Uggs. I bought a bottle of the cleaning fluid for about $8 - I ordered it from Nordstrom's but I think you can order an entire kit from Zappos.com for about $18. I would try using corn starch to soak up the grease and then dust off the boots to see if that helps. Or it could just be an excuse to go shopping :) What kind of Uggs do you have?

Sorry about the gain :( I'm in the same boat but haven't gotten on the scale yet - I can definitely feel it in my clothes though. But hey, it's a new month so we can start over again. I'm cutting out the sugar until I can run again and I'm going to follow Jackie and Maria's examples and start eating more fruits and veggies!

Jackie - I also missed a *few* days here and there of the 100 day challenge  I figure I'll just tack them onto the end. I think the important thing is that we're starting now :) I like all the fruits and veggies that you're including in your meals now :) And yeah, there's nothing like a memory that will help to give you a kick start in the right direction. How are you liking the bike workouts? At my gym, we have a recumbent bike and a spin bike... I used the spin bike on Sunday and I'm not really sure I like the seat that much  My chiro also suggested I not "stand" and pedal on account of my ankle but sitting is just way too uncomfortable. I guess it's one of those things you get use to.

Hard to say with the full because so much can change in a short amount of time. If you weren't rehabbing, how many weeks of running does your training plan call for?

Beth - Congrats on the continuing losses! How was the dinner at Maggiano's? And thanks for the Coke bottle suggestion. I'll definitely give that one a try next time.

Debra - How was the Friday night workout/date? I think we should make the Leanies run (weren't we all suppose to agree on one) in Honolulu and rent a house there or something like that :) Definitely hope you and DOOD can make the trip up to Toronto or maybe I'll swing by Grove City to go shopping!

I think I didn't use enough butter and flour on the bundt pan and because I made it on a work night, I wasn't very good about letting it cool off. Someone also suggested to me that the eggs I used might have caused a problem. I didn't know that Omega-3 eggs were much different than regular eggs.

AFM - Being the big chicken that I am, I only got one needle in my ankle yesterday. Technically I got two except I freaked out with the first one and it ended up coming out. Yeah. How old am I?? But it wasn't terrible and I will probably try two or three next time.

My chiro said I could start deadlifting again so we just worked with the bar and 5lb plates. I had to adjust my stance because of my ankle. Who would have thought that I'd have to change the way I stand when I lift because of the ankle. Anyway, I want it to get better because I'd like to try a 10K at the beginning of May and I'd like to get a PB. If I can start training by the middle of March I should be ok. I can only imagine how hard a 3 miler is going to be at that point.

Brunch last Saturday was fun! We went to a restaurant downtown near the Whole Foods so we ended up going shopping afterward. He cooks which is good ... but complicated recipes! I thought it was funny.

Anyway, gotta get back to it! Hope everyone is having a great day :wave2:

Tandy/Maria - Have you ever checked out Goodreads.com? A friend invited me to join, and I really like it. You can track what books you've read, are currently reading, and want to read. It's also a sort of social networking, but I stay away from that part of it. I just keep up with my own books and stay away from the rest. I do have a couple of "friends," but rarely pay much attention except to maybe see what they're reading.

Tandy - Congrats on considering a big change! Good luck figuring it all out. And better luck with the food plan. Your goals sound terrific. I'm having to tweak mine already - my body is rebelling. :sad1: Hope you don't get completely devastated by this blizzard - it sounds like the storm of the century!

Maria - Read Naked Heat last month. Definitely fluffy, but I really like the stuff! And I think .2 gain with TOM is a definite loss. Plus, Corinna is right. It's the long term that we need to be looking at. Keep reminding all of us! I spent the day reading the excerpt from Midnight Sun on the web - I hope she does finish it and release it. It was fun to read Twilight from Edward's point of view. (But then again, I'm already in love with him, so maybe that's why I like it so much!)

Vicky - I love it. 12 inches of snow and no snow day. We'd be out of work/school for DAYS! Just to make everyone feel really bad, it's supposed to be 72 here tomorrow... :cool2: The exercise bike we have at home is a really low-end (aka cheap) model. No features. But exactly what the PT wants me doing right now. I'm just happy to be doing something. And I'm totally with you - 3 miles sounds like a marathon to me right now! With our Galloway season, we usually start in late May, but this year we're starting the first weekend of May; they'll spread the runs out accordingly to get us to the race in October. So basically I need to be able to run 3 comfortably by May 1st if I want to run with my group.

Did a re-evaluation tonight with the PT, in preparation for the ortho visit tomorrow. I confessed to him that I went to the track last night and walked for 15 minutes. I would have gone farther, but after about 10:00 my hip started aching just a little, and I was actually smart and took that as a sign that I should stop. I finished the lap I was on and went back to the car to wait for DH. He was very proud of me for stopping, and not at all irritated that I'd walked. Our new plan calls for no more pool visits - just gym, and more TM time. We're going to focus on building endurance and strength in my legs, and setting out a walking program. :dance3: All, of course, pending what the doc says tomorrow.

As for eating, I think my body isn't quite ready for me to go 180 degrees. I was absolutely miserable last night - indigestion, heartburn, reflux. I'm guessing too much fiber? I scaled back a little today, but still didn't feel all that great this afternoon, but not nearly like I did at the same time yesterday. I didn't have this problem last summer when we did the Challenge, but I think I may have been eating better before we started. I certainly had been more active! I'm going to work on a happy medium - healthy, but not too much fiber apparently. Maybe more yogurt?

Jackie

Hey there, can I jump back in with you all.

After seeing so many of you marathon weekend looking awesome I realized I need to step it up big time so I can also look great marathon weekend 2012 and what a better place then with people who have also been losing weight. Sorry I am so behind in posting and not sure how everyone is doing but I know by seeing some of you in January I need your support.

Will officially weight in tomorrow and take some measurements. I am going to try something I have never tried before. Just follow the Canadian Food Guide for a healthy heart, not really going to count calories but make good choices and really work hard to get in my fruits and veggies.

I have cut all added sugar out of my diet which was big for me but now I need to work on cutting back big time on the pepsi, not sure I can take pop totally out of my diet but since I probably drink 2 or 3 cans a day now, 1 can a day should be doable and hopefully won't want one every day.

Also big for me will be to cut out the fast food restaurants, not saying I won't eat in any restaurants but will cut back big time and be pickier with the restaurants I choose,

Thanks for listening and I appreciate all input, advise and support.

Kim

Good Morning, Lovely Lean Ones!

Kim -- So fabulous to see you here! I have to tell you, the first thing I thought when I saw you at the Pop meet was, "Wow, her legs look great!" :goodvibes So, other people there thought you looked awesome, too! Some of us are having great success with WW, and as you know Vicky is the queen of no sugar. Getting in the fruits and veggies is huge for me. If I eat bananas, apples, etc., I'm much less hungry for junk. My new breakfast consists of a cup of WW yogurt, a banana, and a Vitamuffin. This is more than I used to eat, but I think it sets me up well for a good day. :thumbsup2

Jackie -- You have me intrigued, I will definitely have to check out Goodreads.com! I am not much of a social networker (not even on Facebook), but I do like the idea of getting more book suggestions. Right now I kind of fumble around on Amazon :rotfl: Now I'm going to have to find Midnight Sun, that sounds very compelling! Do you read the House of Night series? I'm a big fan of that one, too...It can make your body confused and not sure how to respond when you introduce a bunch of healthy all at once. I went from about six servings of fruits/veggies a day to 9, so it hasn't been such a big switch for me. Maybe add in a few more each day/week until you are used to a greater volume of the fiber...no need to make the tummy crazy! :)

Vicky -- I finished the Tim Gunn book yesterday, it was a pretty quick read. It is full of anecdotes and stories, but if you really need this advice, I would worry for you :confused3 Things like -- "Be Nice", "Shower Daily", "Send Thank Yous". I mean, the stories make the points and you will laugh, but there was also a bit more personal information than I needed to know...and really not any fashion advice, so if that's what you're looking for this is not a good source. Glad you had a good time at brunch, and I say you cannot overestimate the value of a man who can cook! :thumbsup2

Tandy, Beth, Debra -- :wave2:

So as for me, I am sick as a dog. I can't believe how quickly this came on. I spent yesterday in bed. I came into work today, but only to stay for half the day. I'm really hoping the extra rest will help me kick it to the curb. We have Celtics tickets tomorrow night, and it's a televised game which means it won't get over until about 11...That's already past my normal bedtime. On the bright side, I figured out I don't need to worry about wanting the snacks, I'll be sucking on cough drops all night :rolleyes1 That's actually a good thing, I can save a little splurging for the Super Bowl -- not too much, since my WW weigh in is the next night!

Needless to say I haven't run since Monday. I'm hoping to feel well enough to do some miles Sat. or Sun. I didn't mean to take a week off right now, but I can't run when I can't breathe...

Ok, hope things are better for the rest of you and you are enjoying a lovely day!

Maria :upsidedow

Maria - Rumors vary as to whether Meyer will ever finish Midnight Sun or not... but here's the link to what exists so far. http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/midnightsun.html It kept me entertained at work for a couple of days! (Yeah, we're really slow right now. I'd love to bring Breaking Dawn in, but it's a little too big to hide. Reading online was perfect!) Sorry you're sick - I know you were hoping you could fend it off. Cough drops sound like the perfect snack though - what a way NOT to eat junk food at the Celtics game.

Kim - Welcome back! Many of us are starting over with renewed strategies. I had hip surgery and can't run right now, so I'm having to be creative in how I go about dropping the pounds. But healthier eating seems to be the key to so many things, so that's where I'm headed.

I was looking back at my journal, and realized that my weight last week was exactly the same as it was post-marathon weekend last year. To the ounce. That made me feel better in many ways, and a little sad too, that I've made no progress in a year. Then again, I haven't been active at all in over 2 months, and I haven't really done any worse! Plus, I lost a pound yesterday. Fiber is a good thing!

Oh - I posted this on the 'Ohana thread last night and forgot to come here. My ortho says there's absolutely no reason I can't run a marathon this year. The PT is over-cautious. I get to start walking immediately, until it hurts. Still can't run for at least another month, but at least I have some goals now. And I'm registering for MCM when it opens on 2/23, with a backup plan of just doing the 10K if I don't feel like my body is ready as it gets closer.

Have a great day! Friday is much closer!

Jackie

Jackie: That's fantastic news!!!! There's no reason you can't do it, but you'll probably have to change that old goal you had for last year. ;)
The weight will come off, I promise. And, yes, fiber is your friend. Not mine, because I eat too much of it, but that's TMI.
This new book that I'm reading is set in N. Carolina. If it's any good, I'll let you know. It's always fun to read books set in your area.

Maria: I'm sorry you are so sick! That stinks! Don't worry about running. Just get well for the game. ;) Sorry, in case you haven't noticed, I'm a sports nut and nothing is more important than a game. :thumbsup2
How did you guys do with the storm? We are on our 3rd snow day which is ridiculous. It's because of the frigid cold today.

Kim: Welcome back! It was nice meeting you last month (don't know if you remember me or not, because it was quick). Happy to have you back. I gave up soda this last year and it was harder than quitting smoking 6 years ago! But, now, I can have a soda every 2 weeks or so and it's such a treat. I'm still struggling with sugar though. Tough addiction. ;)

Vicky: I missed something, somewhere. Who was the lunch date? Glad you had fun.
I gave up on the Uggs. They're ruined. They're so ruined I wore them for the last 2 days shoveling my drive and playing in the snow. So, now they have those lovely salt marks to go with the grease. They are just the classic style. I'm thinking of upgrading to something more fun and modern anyway, but will have to wait for my bday in April. Not something I'll buy myself.
I'm a bigger chicken than you, I couldn't have done one needle.
Sorry to hear the naturopathy isn't going to work out. What didn't you like about the program?

AFM: I had a good and bad week. Good because I ran 6 miles on Monday, 4 on Tuesday and 8 today. The legs are feeling really good. I did have to run it all on the TM, but I have discovered Sex in the City, which I've never seen before, so it's entertaining me.

The bad is that I can't get the eating together. I am great until about 4 or 5, then I eat as much as I can get. Of course, I've been feeling really sick again, so I've got to stop. I'm going to see how it goes today. Harrison said that he's been feeling pretty gross too, so maybe we can support each other.

Frank and I were watching the Biggest Loser Tuesday night. He saw a woman that weighed about 30 pounds less than he does and he asked me how it was possible that she could weigh that much less than him and be fatter than him. I, very gently, explained that in truth, she was much thinner than he is. He's got some thinking to do. He is killing himself and kind of taking us down with him. I keep trying to get the junk food out of the house, and he keeps bringing it back in. It's all gone now, because I ate it all. :lmao: So, maybe the show will kick him into gear. Who knows?

So, take 2 of the February no sugar plan. I'm even writing down calories, fiber, etc.... to try to get on track.

Well, I'm off to go give my dog a haircut and read some more of this book. Have a wonderful day ladies.

Hello leanies! The weekend is almost here again ... Yay!

Tandy - WTG on the running! I'm envious of everyone who's getting in their cardio workouts! I love Sex and the City but didn't care for the movies as much! I mostly liked watching for the clothes. I think it's the cold weather that makes us want to chow down more after 4PM. I'm the same way and that's the only thing I can think of. I bought a pair of aqua/green 3 button Uggs in January - the prices in Canada are ridiculous so I had a pair shipped to the hotel. I wanted to get a pair of slippers but the slippers almost cost as much as boots!

The naturopathy program was going to cost me $20K/year and it was about 40 hours of classes a week over 4 years. I know at the end, I'd be a doctor but it's a huge committment (more so financially than anything else for me). During the info session, they took us to see the in-house clinic where they showed us a few cancer patients they were treating. I know there are a lotof reasons why a cancer patient would go to a naturopath but I think the idea of it made me uncomfortable. So I'm going to go and look at the nutritionist program, health care management and even chef school LOL

Btw, what do you think of this season of BL? I like the contestants a bit more than last season.

Jackie - That's great! So I'll see you in DC in October :) Good news on your weight especially since you haven't been able to run or walk much in the past couple of months.

Maria - Shower daily? Someone needs to be told that?? I mean, I know there are days where people get busy or don't feel well but it's usually not because they don't want to not shower  But I guess things that are common sense to one person may not be obvious to somebody else.

I was invited to a Super Bowl party - I know nothing about football so I think it's just going to be a lot of (unhealthy) eating. I hope you're feeling better soon pixiedust:

Kim - I thought you looked fantastic at marathon weekend! I don't count calories either but I have cut out most refined sugars, fried foods, white pasta, breads and rice (I still eat whole wheat). And I hear ya on the pop! I was addicted to Diet Dr. Pepper and Coke Zero for the longest time. I just gave it up cold turkey. Maybe the next time you find yourself reaching for a pop, force yourself to drink an entire glass of water first and then see if you still want it. You could also try substituting carbonated water for the pop and adding in a twist of lemon or lime. But great job on cutting out the sugars!

Debra - How hard are certain scenes in '127 Hours' to watch? I'm trying to watch all (or most) of the films nominated for best picture before the Oscars.

AFM - I went to the gym last night and rode the spin bike for about 40 minutes. I was able to increase the tension a bit so it was a slightly tougher workout. Not sure how I feel about the seat - ouch! Someone at work said I'd get use to it after a week or so. I'm back in the gym tonight for a quick 30 minute training session and then will probably relax at home. Maybe give myself a pedi...

Not much going on this weekend - I'm getting my lashes done again! Yay! I'm also on the search for a madelaine pan. I decided that's one of the first things I want to make from my Julia Child cookbook. Williams Sonoma has them but they're $35 there. Yikes! I'm not in a rush though because I'm trying to stay sugar free this month. Other than that ... I also have to finish off a few side projects including a press kit for one of our films. And that's about it :)

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Thank you all so much for the welcome backs and compliments all are greatly appreciated. I honestly thought not putting sugar in my coffee or tea would be impossible but I switched to splenda and then started to find that even too sweet so cut that out also. OK today is my LAST pepsi!!!!! It all comes down to which do I want more to look fabulous or have a can of pop right?

Maria So sorry to hear you are under the weather, DH was so sick last week as well and still hasn't kicked it completely going back to the DR today, also 2 of my co-workers are sick.....uugghhhh trying so hard not to get it.

Jackie Wow hip surgery!! How long ago was that. Hope you are recovering well

Tandy Wow giving up pop and smoking wow that is awesome congrats to you!!!! It was great meeting you as well. I love marathon weekend seeing old friends and meeting new ones. I am with you on the junk, I am the queen of restaurants. DH and I have made a deal that if we do not eat in restaurants (except when on vacation he hates restaurants) we will put the money we would normally spend on restaurants in a sep, account and figure even at $100 per week in 42 weeks which is the end of Nov we can go on a cruise. We are here for you to help you kick that fast food habit and hope to have some impact on Frank as well:grouphug:

Vicky Doctor Vicky....how did I miss this?????? Thanks for the input on the carb water totally forgot about that stuff. Did you register for those races? You are doing Scotia right? Did I read somewhere back that Maria might be coming to Toronto???

Kim

I had to post again to say that, apparently, I am not pain free. Right after posting, my knee started hurting, bad. I'm having a hard time with the stairs. I guess my 4 miler tomorrow is out.

Vicky: I want to see all the nominated movies also. I have Winter's Bone coming on Netflix. I am not sure Frank can watch 127 hours because of his claustrophobia. I am the most excited about The King's Speech (love Colin Firth). I am so bad about movies, but this year's look really good.
All your other career choices sound great also. I am completely addicted to the show Top Chef. I can't come up with the ideas, but I love to cook. Unfortunately, I'm in a huge rut with that too.
I like the Cresthaven and Maxine Uggs. I also like the 3 buttons, but think I want something with a heel. I'm not stuck with Uggs either. I have had Emus before and they are pretty good quality also. I just want a fleecy boot.
Oh, and all you need to know on Sunday is that you need to cheer for the Packers!!!!!!!!!:thumbsup2

Kim: Oh, I love to go on cruises. We want to do that next year or the year after if we can afford it. Of course, everyone gains weight on a cruise. Actually, you can get amazing tasting healthy food on cruises, which is hard to get at home (at least at mine). Yes, that soda is bad!!!! ;) I don't know how I managed it. It was actually what got me through the smoking thing. I think it's because I read somewhere that it makes your cellulite look worse. That's all I needed to hear. It's great that you don't have sugar in the coffee anymore. It's all about small, permanent steps. That's how we get to a healthy lifestyle, not just a skinny one.
I enjoyed the meet as well. I was nervous at first, because I hadn't met anyone before. But, everyone was nice. I met some people without nametags and still don't know who they were.

Okay, back to the doggie haircut and icing my knee.

Tandy all the WISHers' are awesome, very friendly and welcoming! Been doing marathon weekend for a few years and always look so forward to Friday afternoon.

I am actually really good on a cruise, I have been on about 7 or 8 and have never gainned on a cruise. I think it is because we never take the elevators, walk around the ship alot and walk at the ports alot. We weren't going to do one this fall as we have a few other trips planned this year and it really wasn't in the budget but my princess money became avail and we figure using no restaurants was a good incentive to get the cruise also.

Good Morning Leanies!

Kim -- I wish I could say the same about cruising -- I've been on 5 cruises, and I gained each and every time  I'm just a girl who cain't say no (this makes more sense if you've seen Oklahoma!) to dessert, buffets, and midnight french fries with malt vinegar :rolleyes1

Tandy -- So sorry you are not actually "pain-free" I hope the icing helped! Writing what I eat down really helps me -- if I have to see what's going in, it's much easier to make a good choice ;) Oh, and before I forget -- I think we'll be cheering the Packers on this weekend. We usually always support the AFC team, but in this case I'm willing to make an exception. Just can't get behind Ben Rothlisberger...:scared1: How do I love Colin Firth, let me count the ways :lovestruc I rarely make it to the movie theater, but that one will be on the top of my Netflix que!

Vicky -- Here's the secret about the Super Bowl for a non-football fan -- don't get up for the commercials, they are awesome! Yep, this is not the time to make small talk, you might miss the best one! ::yes:: Also, you don't have to have a lot of unhealthy food, most people just do. I haven't finalized our menu yet, but it will definitely include crudites, fresh fruit, and shrimp to nibble on. I have my WW weigh in Monday, so that is definitely holding me in check, which is a good thing! :thumbsup2

Jackie -- This is fabulous news! You are going to be a running machine again, you just have to keep going through the rehab and you will get there! :yay: I am so happy for you, I know this gives you focus and something amazing to look forward to!

Yep, it's going to be me and the watermelon-flavored cough drops tonight at the Celtics game. I am feeling much better, but not quite well enough to run. I'm going home early today and I'm going to rest after I get my laundry in. I am out of pjs! :laundy:

I realized I have no where to be all weekend, so there's no reason I can't rest some more, and hopefully be able to do 3 or 4 miles. Once I get my nose and chest back, I'm going to be on the move!

Maria :upsidedow

Hi leanies! Happy Friday everyone!

Maria - Your party sounds healthy! I'd crash it if I were closer :) I always watch the commercials post-Super Bowl. pixiedust:  Hope you get well soon! I just realized I owe you an email

Tandy - Ouch! Sorry to hear about your knee pixiedust:  Do you know what triggered it? Better to RICE it this weekend. I Googled the boots and the Maxine looks so cute! I usually save my Uggs for wearing after a LR. I really want to see 'The King's Speech' too but most people I know think it's a talking heads movie. And I  at your Packers comments! If I end up going, I'm going to tell everyone that's all I need to know :)

Kim - Are you pop free today? ;) Just checking in! And you're right you don't need the pop - you'll feel so much better without it. Give it a week or two and you won't miss it at all! I think I posted about the career stuff here and not on Hakuna Matada  I haven't registered for the races yet - I really want to do Sporting Life but because it's a May 1st race, I'm waiting until the end of the month to see how I feel. I also want to do the Acura 10 Miler and I'm on the fence about Scotia - it's was too crowded last year and it's close to MCM. If I register for Scotia, I'm putting down a better finishing time so I don't start in the 2:00 hour coral.

AFM - I'm having a 'me' weekend! I'm going to the gym tomorrow morning, getting a mini facial and then having my lashes done in the afternoon. And I'm going to try and fit in a mani and a pedi too - no reason, I just feel like it :)

I did a quick workout yesterday with my PT - he showed me this crazy core exercise. Basically, you're in a plank position and "walking" forward using your forearms. It's tough and I recommend using mats, unless you've got carpet. Then he also mentioned that he's moving to another clinic in about a month :(

Not too much planned for this weekend - the potential Super Bowl party and brunch on Sunday (again) LOL I'm also determined to finish the press kit for my film this weekend! There's a potential sale (shh!!) Oh and if you're on Facebook, can you go and 'like' the film 'Night Vision'. I haven't done a very good job promoting it ...

Every post from erum is an ad. I'm at the game, so I can't do much -- can someone notify the Mods we have a troll?

Go Celtics!

Hey - we don't have to run, walk, bike Zumba, yoga or lift anymore. All we have to do is sprinkle something on our food...

Jackie - We have a tentative sale in the works but it's for television. I have to ask the sales agent about DVD sales. Thanks for the FB like :thumbsup2

Yes, let me go right out and buy the miracle cure to weight loss! Right!
I reported it, and I'm sure others did too.

Kim: :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: It will get better, I promise. :)

Vicky: I'm sorry I couldn't vote. No FB kind of stinks. I talked to Frank about it again, and I understand his worries, even though he's overreacting, as usual. ;) Your weekend sounds wonderful!!!!! If I could add a Packers win to that weekend, it might be my perfect weekend. Oh, and a 10-15 mile really fast amazing run that didn't hurt at all.

Maria: I'm sorry about the loss. That was a close score. Was the game good at least? I'm not much of a basketball fan, but I try to at least watch my Kansas Jayhawks. The closer the game, the more exciting. But, to then lose by 4 points really stinks. Feeling any better?
Yes, there is something special about Colin Firth. I don't know what it is, because my usual type is more like Bruce Willis, Jason Statham, rugged, kick butt guys. Colin Firth is everything those guys aren't. I love the awkwardness he has. Plus, he's just so British!!

AFM: I FINALLY finished the dog haircut. I'm going to post a pic of him if I can figure out how. I'm getting better. The first time took me 8 solid hours. I'm down to about 3, but I spread it out over 2 days this time because I just couldn't find 3 straight hours. He's such a patient dog. He just stands there.

I didn't run yesterday and won't be this weekend. My knee is being really weird. It will hurt really bad, and then, no pain at all. When I sleep on my side, it hurts so bad that I can't roll over without waking up. I don't understand where in the knee the pain is coming from. Can't pinpoint anything. Oh well.

I ate well for 2 days!!!! Lost 1.5 pounds. Now, I get to gain it all back tomorrow and then, I'll get really serious. Harrison got on the scale and it wasn't as bad as he thought. But, he was so cute last night. He's trying really hard to make good choices. So, he had basketball and there was no time to cook. We stopped at Sonic (I know, bad idea). He looked the menu over and ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and whole wheat bun! Water to drink and no side. I didn't have the heart to tell him that the mayo on that sandwich was as bad as the hamburger he normally would have ordered. He was so proud of himself and I was proud of him too. I'll bring the evils of mayo up to him later this week. ;)

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend.
:cheer2::cheer2: GO PACKERS :cheer2::cheer2:

Good Morning, Leanies!

Tandy -- Thanks for reporting the troll. I don't know why I let that bother me so much, I was just offended he would dare breach the hallowed confines and safe space of the Leanies! We are nice here, and we don't push miracle cure products ::yes:: It was a good game, even with the loss. It was also good because I didn't eat anything! :rotfl: Great loss! I don't know what WW will hold for me tonight. I thought I did well yesterday, but the scale was up, I think from just getting back to eating normal...whatever it says, I know if I keep tracking my points and running, I will make progress. Taking most of last week off didn't do me any favors :sad2:

Kim -- Great job on Day 1! Every day is a chance to add to your streak! :cheer2:

Vicky -- How was your "me" weekend? That sounds like a lovely concept. Oh wait, I guess that's what I'm doing for Princess! princess:

Beth, Debra, Jackie -- I hope Pittsburgh isn't too depressed this morning Debra -- or at least it doesn't touch your world! :goodvibes

I was so sick last week, but I am at 95% today, and ready to move on with my training! I ran 4M this morning and 3M yesterday, so I'm running again. I missed my LR last week, but plan to do 12M on Saturday. I prefer Friday, but I don't see how I can make it work this week. Maybe something will come to me -- just hopefully not another snow day!

Now for the big news -- our family is expanding! We are now the proud and happy parents of a 10 wk old male grey tabby kitten :cat:. He has white socks and a white muzzle, and he is very inquisitive and loves people. DS has named him Chewbacca, Chewie for short. He sleeps next to me, he has already figured out that I'm the key to making sure all his little kitty dreams come true We could not be happier, and we already have plans to get him a companion -- their are 6 kittens that will be available at the end of March, and we hope to bring one home. I'll be naming this one, and yes, the sci fi naming tradition will continue -- I'm just waiting to see if we get a girl or boy, and what the personality deems appropriate.

So, turns out the shelter did check our references, and I guess our vet was pretty adamant about us being a really good home, and that we would indeed keep our word and not declaw if we said we wouldn't. They did approve us, and I was very pleasantly surprised. We are positive he made the difference. The nice thing about this shelter is the kittens stay in foster homes until they are adopted, they are never in the shelter except for when you pick them up, so they can't be exposed to anything before they've had their shots. Our little guy is clearly well-socialized, his foster family did a great job.

Congrats to any Packers fans (that's you, Tandy!)! I was rooting for them, just couldn't bring myself to root for the Steelers :rolleyes1

I also might mention I was extremely pleased with the NFL League MVP this year -- I know people around the country can't stand him (again, shout out to Tandy), but we love our Tom Brady! :lovestruc
