Working on Weight Loss and getting Lean!

Hey Lovely Lean Ones!

Feeling great this AM! I bounced up and ran 6M on the TM, my makeup went on perfectly, and my hair fell completely into place. If the birds and mice had shown up to dress me, I wouldn't have been surprised. princess:

I am going for 5 lbs for the Challenge. Considering I've lost six ounces over the last 3 weeks...I'm calling it ambitious! :rotfl:

I was just thinking -- could we have a component for Maintainers? A certain someone Corinna is at her goal weight, and I wouldn't want her to feel left out!

I currently do 0 situps, so this is a great one for me!

I'm going to P.F. Chang's for lunch with a friend. I've already decided I'm having the shrimp in lobster sauce lunch bowl with brown rice, and none of those tiny desserts. I will be nicely full, but not wreak havoc with my points. Can't go too crazy, I've got a BL weigh in coming up! Which reminds me -- is it possible for me to weigh in Sat. AM and not throw the challenge for a loop? That's when I do my weigh in for the DIS BL thread, so then I will just have one weight to track -- but I can do two if it will cause any problems at all -- I do not want to be a troublemaker!

We're having burgers on the grill for dinner -- 3oz. burger on an Arnold sandwich thin with some mustard. DH loves to grill out as much as possible during the summer, so I've already told him I want chicken or turkey available for me instead of all that red meat. He seems to be on board. Considering he's been told he has to get his cholesterol down...I told him we're both guests at the same party for different reasons, but we both need to attend! :rolleyes1

Everyone have a fantabulous day! :flower:

Maria :upsidedow

Good morning everyone! Another grey and rainy day here - I guess that's where the April showers expression comes from.

Beth - Put me down for 5 lbs and my starting weight is 139.3 lbs. I'm not sure if I'll be around a scale on Friday to weigh-in. I thought I might be able to do my fitness assessment on Saturday morning but don't think there are any openings then. I laughed when I read the small car comment! I wish I could! I'm still pushing DF to get a chin up bar. He thinks we'll ruin a door frame by installing it.

Kim - Wow PX90! Is Mike going to be training with you as well? You are going to be one tiny but strong lady at Scotia!

Maria - Last night's episode was awesome! I loved Desmond in the alternate reality - he cleans up really nicely! I thought it was pretty cool how he met Penny!

Debra - Did you make it to a movie? What did you see? I'm wanting to see The Runaways! Sorry to hear about DOOD's busy work schedule. When we're shooting, I never see DF for days at a time. ART is unpleasant mostly during. I would describe it as a cross between an intense massage and stretching. I think the reason it hurts is because the practitioner presses into or stretches the area that's bothering you the most. I'm little embarassed to admit it but I haven't Googled inversion sprain yet  I think it basically means that the ligaments are strained. I can run so long as I don't hit anything that would make my foot/ankle twist or turn. Being somewhat of a clumsy person, I usually do run over small rocks and into dips in the pavement

Tandy - Have you done any hill training? The only advice I have for running uphill is to make sure you're standing up straight and not hunched over.

Jeanne - You could be a wedding planner after all of this! Congrats for staying in Onederland!

AFM - The refined sugar free diet is going well so far. It's kept me out of the grocery and drugstores because I'd be there scooping up the discounted Easter chocolate. I do miss coffee and diet pop (I'm cutting out sweetners too) - but I think it's the caffeine.

DF and I made a sugar-free marinade for our trout last night. It had olive oil, fresh lemon juice, herbs and garlic. It was really yummy and then I learned afterward that he cooked the fish in butter  Well, I'm not going fat-free so I didn't really care as much.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good morning ladies!

I just got back from my run and felt yucky! More about that later when I discuss my horrible diet! This is my official last run until my race, so I don't know what I'm going to do with myself these next 2 days. I guess I'll be walking a lot!

Vicky:I've been doing a little hill training just because we live in a REALLY hilly area of Kansas (hard to believe that Kansas isn't all flat, I know). My times are staying good even with hills. I'm just not excited about 6 stinking miles of uphills! Sounds like you're doing great with your eating. I was so good until this week. Easter and a birthday have killed me. The trout sounds really good. I love fish. We went trout fishing twice last year and didn't catch anything!:guilty:There is no way I could even do one chin up, so more power to you! :thumbsup2

Maria: It sounds like you're having a fantastic day already. A great workout, lunch and dinner already planned, and a good hair day! Wow!:woohoo:

Beth: Thanks so much for putting this BL challenge together. I'm going to have to change my weight. I've gained! Whoops! I'll get my official weight on Friday (hoping it's down a pound or so by then ;)).

Jackie: Great idea to get the "other" Beth to join. Then, she won't be sabotaging your efforts! I hope you enjoy your massage. :)

Debra: How was the birthday? Mine was nice and calm. The boys took me out to dinner and picked a stinking all you can eat buffet. I have no willpower! :lmao:
I used to be vegan, and have been thinking about going vegetarian, but don't know yet. I know that not having to worry about dairy and eggs would sure help the difficulty of the whole change.

Jeanne: Thanks for the birthday wish. :)

AFM: Well, Easter and my birthday have killed my weight and my clean eating! I'm up 3.5 pounds! How does that happen in half a week? Oh, wait, I remember. :rotfl: So, as of right now, I have 8 pounds to lose for the challenge. The worst part was that I drank Coke last night and now I'm all crampy feeling! I hate this. I'm back on track today. Going to the store and only buying healthy. My son's weight is slowly creeping up again, so I've got to get him in control.

Have a great day everyone!
Tandy

Ladies, the festivites will begin on Friday 4/9! I will allow a weigh in exception for you Maria! Saturday is fine. We don't want to mess you up for your other challenge!

I am already 'getting ready' for the challenge! I have taken the steps twice today (not the elevator!), and I am reigning in the snacking urge (which is REALLY difficult). I need to take some of this weight off, but I don't like what I have to do to get it done! :lmao:

Tandy: No problem with starting this challenge. If everyone posts their weight loss, it goes pretty smoothly. I really needed the jump start that a challenge gives me! Nothing like a friendly competition!

Maria: What a perfect beginning to your day! I love when everything goes smoothly! I was feeling really good this morning too! I got right up! My run was lack luster b/c I ended up running twice yesterday (6 total 10 min miles, with negative splits on that last mile! I think it was a 9:30 min mile!) My legs were tired today, but I got done 5 miles this morning!

AFM: As stated above, I did 2 speedier workouts yesterday for a total of 6 miles. I had dead legs this morning, but that's the fastiest I have run for a long time. Eating was right on target yesterday, but having trouble not snacking. I get into that 'a little of something won't hurt'.....but when you do that all day, it sure does add up! Many more calories than I should be eating! :scared1: So, most of my trouble was just not snacking yesterday.

I think I will attempt my long run tomorrow, while the kids are in school. It might be pushing it though.....I need to do 16 miles, and I have a highlight appointment for my hair at 9:00. I'll have to see what time I am done.

Have a lovely day!

Beth

Will weight in tomorrow, as of this morning I am up 1.6 pounds...hope I can get rid of that by tomorrow:guilty:

Just so I understand this, do I also keep track of points? For water, sit up etc?

Good Morning, Lean Queen Brigade! (yes, you are all royalty!)

I popped up this AM and ran 6M. The scale rewarded me with a 2lb gain. I know it's either the chinese food from yesterday, pms, or a combination of the two, but still....disheartening.

I made one little dietary change I'm going to try -- I moved my yogurt from lunch to breakfast, so today I had about 300 cals for breakfast (4 pts instead of 2). I've read this is supposed to help with hunger throughout the day. So far, so good. This will put today's lunch at 7 pts, and I plan a 3pt snack for this afternoon. That leaves me with plenty for dinner and dessert (still lovin' those 2pt skinny cow caramel chocolate truffle bars!). Unfortunately I'm pretty sure dinner is up in the air because I tried to verify with dh we're having chicken for dinner and he was extremely vague -- which means he has our usual Thursday disease of not wanting whatever's on the menu and wanting to grab takeout. He's home doing the taxes today, so he's responsible for pre-dinner prep. If we end up doing that I'm either eating something I can point or eating a frozen dinner. I am not going to get sucked into the void of "mystery point" food. It's always more than I think it is :scared1:

I plan to make a chart tomorrow in Excel so I can track the points for our BL Challenge. I do better if I have a form I can just fill in ;)

Kim -- Yep, just keep track of your points and report them to Beth with your weight. The points are great because they have me doing things to help the weight loss along :thumbsup2

Beth -- How did those highlights turn out? I know we go through this with me every few months -- I try to do more with my workouts and end up with something new...anyway, since I seem to be doing 6M most days now (but slower, and with less soreness!), I think I will bump my Sat. LR up to 7. That seems to make sense, doesn't it?

Tandy -- Holidays and special occasions are tough  But on the bright side, you have a great new challenge to spark you along, and a healthy grocery trip will only help! :goodvibes

Vicky -- That marinade sounds yummy! Isn't it interesting how we eat different fish depending on where we are? I grew up eating blue gill, catfish and crappie in MO, had a ton of walleye in IL during grad school, and now I pretty much eat haddock and salmon. I also eat a ton of shellfish --shrimp, lobster and scallops. I think that's more a function of being on the coast.

Ok, everybody 'fess up -- what kind of fish do you eat? Are there regional specialties where you are? :fish:

I want to know what's yummy in Canada, KS, NC, MN, PA and...Lowell, of course! (Sorry Cindy, I couldn't resist!) I have a feeling you eat better fish than I do, I believe you go to Legal Seafoods! :lovestruc

Ok, everybody move and make good choices today! :yay:

Maria :upsidedow

Maria: Sorry, but I detest all fish and seafood. I won't even allow it to be cooked in my house because of the smell. My DH has to go visit his Mom, or go out for dinner to get his seafood fix. I know it's good for me, but I just cannot eat it.

Maria - DF doesn't like salmon much so we started eating trout. We also eat tilapia, catfish and haddock (in fish & chips  ). I also love sashimi and sushi - we go out every so often for that :) I love scallops and shrimp too especially now that we can BBQ! I will have to Google crappie... never heard of that one before.

I think there's more seafood varities in Canada if you live in the maritimes or British Columbia.

Hey folks! Sorry to be late to the party!

Maria: You, my friend, are the workout QUEEN! GREAT GADSOOKS! 6 miles a day is quite the workout ! Yes, if you can handle that, I would increase my LR to 7 or even 8 miles! It will be a piece of cake, if you are doing 6 miles a day. One word of caution..... when you start doing higher mileage consistently your body starts hoarding fluid, increases your glucogen stores, and increases your blood volume. That's all good stuff, but sometimes that means a slow down in weight until your body adjusts. Don't stop because of that though, it all evens out in the 'wash'.

My husband and I love Chilean sea bass. It's our favorite! It's expensive though, so we don't get it very often. Sometimes we can find it on sale at Wegman's (my favorite store! :lovestruc)

Kim: Yes, keep track of your points all week and post it with your weight loss on Friday.

AFM: I am planning on a run later during baseball practice. Tomorrow is supposed to be 16 miles....I will head to the Railtrail for that one!

My neck has felt good since the chiro on Monday. I have some stiffness right now, but I do have a follow-up tomorrow!

Beth

Ok, everybody move and make good choices today! :yay:

Probably should have paid more attention to this... we decided at the office that since we were going to be really, really good starting tomorrow, that we could be really, really bad today. I hope I don't pay for it at weigh-in tomorrow morning. :scared1: Brownie-baker went and got milkshakes from our favorite place for all of us, AND we had FRIED seafood (shrimp, Maria, since you asked!) for lunch.

When I'm eating healthy, I prefer mahi-mahi, salmon, grouper, or tilapia. When I'm not, I love fried popcorn shrimp. Bad habit, I know, but it was really good. And it's all you're going to find on the coast of NC, along with fried flounder, and fried oysters, and fried scallops... you get the picture.

Went for my sports massage last night. I'm always amazed at how many places she can find that I didn't even know hurt before she began. I get to go back next week - hooray? - for a second treatment. There is indeed a huge knot in my right calf, but there's also a pretty good size one in my left thigh as well. She thinks that one is probably from adjustments in my stride to compensate for the pain in the calf. I'm trying to find the motivation to run tonight when I get home; lethargy is setting in, and Maria's making me feel guilty!

Jackie

BL Challenge: Okay, Friday it is! That means if I'm going to have a b-day dinner with DOOD, it has to happen tonight. Dang, guess not. He'll be happy you all are saving him money. :rotfl2:

And 20 sit-ups. Ewwwww. Okay, the abs will thank you later, Beth. Much later. Like week after next. I'll step on the scale tomorrow & report in.

Maria: Excuse me, brother, I'm also a Desmond fan! :yay: I've pulled out my dusty yoga DVDs, but the stress-release ones. Right now I cannot fathom doing some of my more intense ones. I'm such a slacker. I love that you plan ahead for your meals at PF Chang's. I tend to go for what I *think* is the best meal--and am usually close. But then I feel so, well, righteous, that I order dessert!

I love the yogurt, breakfast, lunch, dinner. I've been doing mine for lunch as I eat a banana and oatmeal for breakfast. Maybe I should shift up a little. Hmmm... Can't help you with the fish, sorry. There is no fish in our lives, me being a vegetarian and--for some reason--being really sensitive to the smell of fish. :rolleyes1 I know DOOD likes blackened catfish, but that's because he lived in NOLA.

Go for 7, you warrior runner, you!

Jackie: Of all the things you could call your brownie baker, you choose the nicest thing. That's so you! :thumbsup2 I'd be grumbling under my breath. For your pity party, have all the beer you'd like. I was downing the bourbon over the last week. It's almost gone, down to the last 3" inches. But I'm not calling a hiatus on that during the BL challenge. Nope, can't make me. It's medicinal.

Your massage sounds therapeutic, though. You and Vicky always make me feel slightly envious with such things. (Even when massage and ART are uncomfortable.) I just don't like people touching me. :sad2: I hope you're feeling well enough, and motivated enough thanks to Maria, to get out there!

Beth: Awwww, your roster is the sweetest thing. Don't forget you, as our half-marathon extraordinaire! WTG with your speedy workout today. That's fabulous! I totally understand the snacking thing. The more I work at a desk, the more I tend to snack. Thanks for bringing your awareness of snackage issues up, as it helps me out. (Okay, truthfully, I don't work at a desk all the much--with the laptop, it's a desk, a chair, a coffee shop. Hence the problems.) Good luck with however many miles you get in tomorrow, you ambitious athlete you!

Vicky: I ended up seeing The Art of the Steal, a documentary about public funding for art that has a lot of local buzz here. I wanted to see The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but that doesn't play until this weekend. Maybe I'll treat myself to a second movie! Woo hoo with the refined sugar-free diet. :woohoo: I'm putting that off until next week, I think, but am trying to cut back this week. Baby steps back, baby steps.

Tandy: My b-day was quiet, too. Too quiet, eerily quiet. I was looking for zombies at the end.:lmao: (That's what living in Pgh gets you, always looking out for zombies.) I'm glad you celebrated with your boys, even with the all-you-can eat experience! I used to be vegan, too, but meal planning isn't my strength. Coke does the same thing to me in terms of stomach cramps. I'm off it now, but it tastes so goooooood.

Cindy & Kim: Whoo hoo for joining the fun! (All except that scale part!)

AFM: I haven't weighed myself yet, but I did do a short run this morning. It still doesn't feel great, but I feel more, IDK, "together" for the rest of the day for having done it. Does that make sense? And my muscles remember feeling better when I work out regularly, so they're putting pressure on me. Luckily for me, the temperature here is dropping back to normal temperatures--cooler. Much better for me. I'll be going to the gym tomorrow and facing the weights/cardio, but hope to get outside for some between-running-days walking.

2010 Goals:
1) Run a 5K without walk breaks.
2) Finish a half marathon in 2:30 or less.
3) Resume workouts with weights and/or Pilates on a regular basis.
4) Entertain the possibility of another marathon and shoot for 5:30 (if I can do this at Disney, then there won't have to be another marathon on the calendar!)

Goal #2 is complete.
Goal #1 is on the calendar for April 24th - that's my target race.
Goal #4. About that one. I did say "entertain the possibility," right? I just registered for Marine Corps. That's a marathon, yeah? And for projected finish time, what did I put? Yep, 5:30. Guess I'm committed to at least the first part of that goal now!

Jackie

OK, I hate myself this morning. Not good to have a stressful day and cap it off with wings and smirnoff the night before a weight in.
As of this morning 198.4!!!!! OMG I am up 3.4 pds. My own fault, no one but me to blame.

That is out of my system and I will get back at it full force today, unfortunatley my P90X won't be here till next week unless I want to pay $50 more for it so I borrowed some of the tapes from a co-worker so I will do it tonight.

Have a great weight in all.

I'm up, but haven't been to the gym yet. Got sucked into work email and small tasks. But as soon as I finish eating, I'm getting dressed and headed out.

My weigh-in this morning: 135. Starting over at ground zero, apparently.

Like Kim, my nightly nightcap & the weekend/Easter/birthday didn't help. I'm glad there's nothing stressful going on this weekend. Except those pesky taxes! :scared1:

A BIG whoo for hitting 75% of your goals already (I think you did reach #4 yesterday). You deserve a big congratulations and a :cool1: for that, and for signing up for MCM. Great news, IMO!

Official weigh-in: 138.9

I was thrilled that even after yesterday's pig-out session, the weight was the same as Wednesday morning. (Actually, I was hoping it would be higher, so I could cheat and not have as much to lose, but the scale gods were determined that I play fair!) :lmao:

The Maria guilt worked - I went home and ran 4 miles last night, before going out to dinner with DH. Chose the grilled shrimp (yes, more shrimp, but healthy ones this time!), and skipped my favorite dessert. I did have a beer as a reward for running the 4 miles and to calm the nerves after signing up for MCM. I don't know why I'm so freaked out - it's not like it's my first marathon, but somehow this one seems like a really big deal.

Kim - The weigh-in is over, so the worst part is done. Now it's time to get serious! We're all in this together (does anyone else hear music with that?)

Debra - I wish I didn't like massages as much as I do, or I wish I could afford more of them! When I win the lottery :rotfl2: I will have one every week. And I do think there is something very therapeutic. My ideal training plan would incorporate sports massage on a regular basis.

Off to drink my water...

Jackie

Good morning everyone!

Well, I don't have a TV yet so I can't use the Wii to record my weight, so let's use 198 which was more or less my pre-Greek Easter weight.

One question about the water.......I think I saw that Beth posted 68 oz/day. That's supposed to be 64 oz, right? That is one of the hardest things for me to do, please don't make it even more difficult. Last year I got more than half my water in late at night and had to make several middle-of-the-night potty runs every evening. :rotfl:

That's it for now, folks......I am dealing with major income tax issues today.....grrrrrrr!

Good morning ladies.

I don't have time for a full post right now, but wanted to get my official weight in. I'm at 146.5 this morning. Goal of 139, so 7.5 to lose (if my math is right).

I'll get back on later to say hi for real!

Biggest Loser 2010:

Oh, ladies it's weigh in day! Most of you have already posted. So here's our starting line up.

Vicky: Starting weight 139.3

Kim: Starting weight 198.4

Deb: Starting weight 135

Jackie: Starting weight 138.9

Jeanne: Starting weight 198

Tandy: Starting weight 146.5

Beth: Starting weight 174

Maria: Starting weight 193.8

Cindy: Starting weight 148.2

Friday, who is glad it's here? I guess I am, but I am happier that my 16 miler is done!

It was a tough run. The higher the mileage, the harder it is to get your head around it. I was trying to think of it in a positive way, but I was sort of dreading it. It's a long time to be out there 'running'. I didn't do too bad. I ran 16 miles in 3:04. That is better than my 15 miler 2 weeks ago. It took me longer than to do 15 than this weeks 16 miler. That was good. I even pushed myself the last 3 miles to keep running. I HAD to talk to myself to keep running......everything was hurting and I really wanted to walk. I hung in there and even kept a decent pace the last 3 miles (decent being 11:30 min miles, by a pace non-the-less).

I ate a little more this morning (an extra 100 calories) to fuel my run. I ate a banana on the way. That seemed to work. I didn't feel empty.....and didn't die at the end. I have to concider that a positive!

I hope everyone has a good weekend!

Beth

Hi again ladies.

Beth: Yes, I'm glad it's Friday! I'm always glad it's Friday!:thumbsup2
Sounds like you had a great run today! :cool1:
Thanks again for setting everything up for the BL!

Jackie: I'm glad the guilt worked. Congrats on signing up for the full! I'm so excited for you. We all know you won't have any problem with it!:cheer2:
I hope that brownie baker is done now! But, I do love a good milkshake!

Debra: I'm still paying myself. It's just the way it is, I guess. I wish my bday hadn't been so close to the "eating" holiday!

Kim: The good news is that, with the Smirnoff, you have a false starting weight, so you should start losing quick. Okay, maybe my logic is off, but I'm just trying to be helpful!:lmao:

Maria: I love so many types of seafood. Any shellfish, especially crab legs. I like tuna, salmon, tilapia, haddock, swordfish, mahi mahi, etc..... And, it's mostly healthy right?

AFM: I picked up my race packet this afternoon! I'm so excited. I already have my # attached, but hope I can figure out the tag thing for my shoe tomorrow. The weather is going to be PERFECT! I've only eaten healthy for 2 days now and my stomach is finally starting to feel good again!

As far as the biggest loser challenge, I've done my situps today and am doing great on all the eating, except I'm not sure I can get the fiber in. Of course, I don't know all the grams in fruit and things like that, so I'll probably be okay.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. I'll let you guys know how I do tomorrow!

Tandy
