Working on Weight Loss and getting Lean!

Maria: Oh honey! I'm so sorry that you are in this funk. I remember my pic from my half in April. It was so ugly and I thought I looked huge (I am not huge, and neither are you). Please, please, please try to look at how far you have come! And, just for the record, what is an athlete supposed to look like? They come in all different shapes, sizes and colors, and they all kick butt! You are strong and healthy and you can RUN! I am truly sorry that the comment someone made hurt you so bad, but please don't let it keep you down. I understand those childhood issues very well. I was a scrawny, tall and ugly child and teenager. I had people making fun of me my whole life. Where are they now? I'm running marathons.

On a positive note, I'm happy to hear about the book. I remember those from my early teens as well and will have to read them again. Although, I know they won't be near as good this time around! ;)

Jackie: Thanks for the food advice. I have gotten all our ADRs and just hope that I feel like eating. I'm going to be so nervous before and so exhausted after, who knows?;)

Hey Leanies!

I wanted to come back and actually do a reply with responses...

Tandy -- Thank you so much for the support! It's funny how some comments take you back where you never want to go (in my case being bullied because of my appearance), and that coupled with the photos just knocked me for a loop. I feel much better today with a plan! I finished Clan of the Cave Bear last night, and ordered the next one from the library. I think I had forgotten about all the um, physical activity, and when I read a review of the next one online, I remembered I think I *thought* I learned a lot from the books when I was a young teen ;) I am so proud you ran 14M! I have never done that, what an incredible accomplishment! :yay: Did you watch the Scooby Doo movie? What do you think of Asian Velma? That's what we call her around my house because well, Velma wasn't Asian before! I think it's great they tried to add some diversity to the cast, as long as Scooby stays a Great Dane, I'm good! :rotfl:

Jackie -- You have me thinking about ADRs! I haven't made any yet, but I think I will get one for the latest seating I can on Monday night at Artist Point. My dh does not like to be tied-down foodwise, and he tends to think the Disney food is not that good for the $$, but I am hoping he will be at least happy with Artist Point. To be fair, we've never eaten at a signature restaurant before, so we haven't experienced their best effort. :goodvibes You must be so excited, MCM is almost here! :dance3: I love POFQ, too! We tend to stay at POR (in order to get the AAA rate), but we like to walk over to POFQ and grab some beignets the morning after the race ::yes::

So, that's all I have for now. Enjoying a nice hot cup of organic chai tea and getting ready to do a little more work...

Maria :upsidedow

Maria: Okay. I am glad you were able to get all those feelings out. You know what? You are not alone with those feelings. They catch all of us at one time or another.....but if you don't voice them, they can hurt you worse than they already do.

You have done an amazing job. AND, you did it smart. It is a process, but it never goes as fast as we wish it would. The accomplishment is in the journey, not the outcome. You are learning so much about yourself.....but it's not always good stuff. There is always the flip side of the coin. But, you cannot have the good without the bad.....I wish we could.

I am in the same spot as you. I keep thinking.....a year ago, I was where I wanted to be. Now, I am 25 pounds away from that. With those feelings, it's hard to stay in the 'game'. But, we must plug along.....do the best we can for the time being. That might be putting the weight loss goals on hold for a little bit, to have time to wrap our heads around it again. There is nothing wrong with that.

Your goals sound doable! You will get back to it. It's important to you....don't lose site of that. Remember, it's much better to lose it slow...to keep it off. This is just a transition point, not an end point.

We all have points that we decide to 'give it up'. It's such a struggle....and most people in our lives don't understand HOW difficult it really is. It's not just losing weight.......our feelings and needs are involved to. We don't live in a vaccum. If we did, it would make weight loss a heck of alot easier!

Don't be so hard on yourself. You are an amazing person, and we all love you lots. We are here to listen and support, and to love you despite yourself! Don't worry....it will all turn around!

Beth

Hi Leanies! Just sneaking back in and sort of hoping that no one notices

Maria - What Beth said! I haven't stepped on a scale in a little while. I'm sure that I've gained weight but I hate how much control that number has over how I feel about myself. I say as long as you're active, have good blood sugar and blood pressure readings and happy that's all that should matter. And having met you in person, I think you look fabulous! I don’t have a specific idea of what an athlete should look like, but I think as long as you're able to do the exercises you want (running, swimming, lifting, biking etc.) - you're an athlete!

Tandy - Congrats on the 14 miler!! POFQ is a wonderful resort! I stayed there two years ago and no matter what building you're in, you're really close to the bus stop. My only complaint was that the bus can be slow to get out of the resort because it's shared with POR. So now that it's my turn to get back on track… exactly what week are we suppose to be on for marathon training  I'm guessing week 7. I think I'm still okay because I did a half distance a few weeks ago and I've got two 30K races under my belt this year. How are you find the Goofy training? Are you doing back to back runs on the weekend? Which restaurants have you made ADRs for?

Jackie - Thanks for tip on Portobello… I had wanted to try it for a while but if you're giving it a thumbs down, I'll stay away. How are you feeling about MCM? Are you excited about it? How's your body feeling?

Beth - WTG on the 30 miles/week! You're doing awesome as always! How are you doing with the low carb diet? And how's your new tub/spa? It must be really nice after a LR!

Cindy - How's the job search going? Do you have any upcoming races?

Debra - How was the trip to Disney? I remember you mentioning the Sweet Sundays event. Did you go how was it? I want details since I wasn't able to go to the Food & Wine fest this year!

AFM - Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I've just been feeling a little down since Thanksgiving weekend and not being able to run much lately. I did do my 10K race last Saturday which was pretty good all things considered. I didn't get a personal PB but I came pretty close and I did get a PB for the course. My time was 58:49 and considering my knee, the crowds, the hilly course and not having run for about 1.5 weeks before, I'm happy with my time. The race was at the zoo and the course was tight. The walking paths in the zoo were split in the middle and there was two way traffic for a lot of the course. Add to that people running in groups of twos and threes… but overall it was fun and I saw a lot of animals out and about :)

So I've been feeling a little down lately … no specific reason, just a bunch of little things. My birthday was two weeks ago and can you believe my family didn't take me out! Actually my dad made the executive decision for everyone. He said my sister had a class that evening so we couldn't go. I don't even think he asked my sister. I could have asked her and forced everyone to go but I didn't feel like I should have to deal with him on my birthday. He offered to go out on the weekend he knew I was going to be out of town. I said if that was the case, he should give me the money he would have spent on dinner so at least I could go and do something fun. Then he gave me a lecture on how this shouldn't be about money but about relationships etc. Oh let me tell you, that had me seeing red!! And they still haven't taken me out for dinner or gotten me a cake. I can't wait to move out. (Btw, the government tax credit cheque *finally* arrived … but for some reason I wasn't very excited about it.)

But maybe it's a blessing in disguise that I didn't get a birthday dinner or cake. I didn't really need the extra calories, right? My eating is pretty much back on track. I don't feel a craving for refined sugar much anymore so I've been able to cut that out and replace it with fruits/nuts etc. My workouts are going well and my knee is getting better. I'm training on Mondays with my chiropractor who had me do the "seal walk" across the gym floor yesterday and I managed to do it twice without stopping for a break! Yay! And I think I can almost do 1 chin up myself. She talked to me about doing some treatments on my knee and ankle as well. She didn't like the brace that my PT was suggesting I use.

I picked up a ton of clothes on my road trip! Thank goodness there's no sales tax in NJ! Everyone was telling us to go to the Woodbury Commons Outlet in NY but I calculated the amount we spent and we saved more than $100 since we didn't have taxes to pay. I picked up a really cool pair of knee high boots from Nine West and get this, I can actually slip them on top of my jeans! This is coming from somone who could *just* zip them up last year without any jeans! Yay! I also bought a pair of Diesel jeans since there was an outlet store there. More than I've spent on a pair of jeans even at outlet price but the material is so different and the cut is awesome! I do wish that I had bought another pair of boots. Shoes in Canada seem like they're double the price of what they cost in the US. I wanted a pair of flat riding boots and they're nearly $250+ in Canada! Yikes! The pair I bought was $100. We need outlets in Canada :)

Anyway, have a great day ladies :wave2:

Good afternoon ladies.

Vicky: Happy to have you back. I'm sorry things aren't going so great for you right now. Happy birthday though! :bday:Here's a cake you won't mind! :cake:;)I wish your dad hadn't done that. Why are families so insensitive sometimes?
Getting new clothes is always good! :thumbsup2 I love good jeans, but end up buying them at our local resale shop, cause I'm just cheap! :lmao:
The back to backs are going good. I do a 6mile/8mile in the middle of the week and a short/long over the weekend. It's been good. I wasn't sore at all after the 14, but we'll see what happens next. Yes, week 7 sounds about right. Yikes! It seems like we only started this. I think you'll be fine. You've got quite a few long races under your belt here recently.

Beth: How is the bathroom going? How about running?

Maria: I'm happy to hear that you are already feeling a little better. We didn't end up watching the Scooby Doo movie. An asian Velma? That works. We are definately a multi cultural country, so it's good to have diversity in all things. I just didn't like that they made Christopher Robin a girl! And, I can't see Scooby being anything else either.

AFM: I got a 6 miler in today. I ran a new course and, man was it hilly. I ended up being a tad slower than I would have liked, but got a good workout in. I went to zumba last night and hurt my lower back again. There is a routine we do that is kind of a cross between a flamenco dance and a tango. It's all about posture. I thought I had good posture and a good core, but I am obviously lacking! :rotfl:

Eating is great. I haven't had meat or sugar for awhile now and am feeling pretty good about all my choices.

I have been an ADR fool though. I am trying to make the boys happy. Since the running is for me, the food is for them. So, for my child, we have Crystal Palace, 1900 Park Fare, Chef Mickey, and Via Napoli. For my husband, I have added 50s Prime Time and Liberty Tree Tavern. Harrison wants characters and Frank wants the most food possible, and, preferrably, all the food I won't let him eat at home, like fried chicken. I scheduled Via Napoli for Friday before the half, and 1900 Park Fare for Saturday before the full. I'm sure I will find something no matter what. I don't know if I will do WDW vegetarian or not, but it won't be hard if that's what I choose. Now, sugar free will be IMPOSSIBLE!

I need advice from you race veterans though. I want to do Epcot EEMH on Friday before the half. It's until midnight. I'm going to be so excited that sleep will be near impossible anyway, so do you think this will be okay? I'll go to bed early on Saturday, I'm sure.

Have a wonderful day ladies!

Tandy - Sorry, but I think that Epcot is a bad idea on Friday night. I know you won't sleep anyway, but you're gonna have to be up by 3:00, and if you don't leave the park until 12:00, that's going to leave NO sleep at all. Just my opinion, but maybe let the rest of the family do the park? I love your ADR's, though. Crystal Palace is one of our all-time favorites, both for the food and the characters. We did 1900 Park Fare for DD's 18th birthday and had a terrific time. DH has requested more buffets, since he thinks it's the most value for the money!

Vicky - Yeah, we were really excited about Portobello, but it didn't live up to our expectations at all. I've only been once, so maybe it was a bad night, but it didn't give me any reason to try again. I'm very excited about MCM. I actually feel pretty ready, which is amazing considering I've done as few long runs as I have. I've done a lot of figuring with paces and run/walk intervals, and I think I just MIGHT be able to hit my original marathon goal for the year. You're doing great on your workouts!

Maria - I think your DH will be happy with Artist Point. It is definitely our newest favorite. We actually look forward to going to WDW to eat! I'm sorry you had a funk this weekend, but we all seem to have gone through one recently. But you've done an excellent job of digging back out, and realizing that you have come a long way and how proud you should be of that.

Jackie

Good morning ladies!

Jackie - That's fantastic news! I will be keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes well for you! Are you staying in the DC area past the race to sightsee? The same thing happened to me with Citricos - everyone loves it but the night I went was probably an off night and the service was horrible! So I haven't been back there either.

Tandy - I'm going to go with Jackie and say no to the EMH at Epcot. You're going for a PB so even if you're not going to be sleeping, you still want to be rested and relaxed. With EMH, depending on the bus situation you may not get back to your resort until 1AM. If you stay in the park, you'll be on your feet the whole night and you want to have a fresh pair of legs! You'll also want to make sure you have all of your clothes and gear laid out and ready for the 1/2. That said... I've also been outlet shopping the day before a race so... :rolleyes1

Maria - I *tried* to get up early this morning. Actually I was up early - 2:30AM early  It's weird everytime I go to sleep early I tend to wake up after a couple of hours. I couldn't go back to sleep after that so I was "up" until about 4AM. This will work out really well for January but I have to figure out how to keep sleeping

AFM - I went out for a run last night. Just a quick 4 miler but it went pretty well. Not much knee pain and I was able to get in a few splits that were under 10:00 m/m. I've got 7 planned for tonight but it's suppose to rain so keep your fingers crossed that the rain stays away until much later tonight :)

I had a premade dinner last night from Whole Foods - grilled salmon with sliced veggies and quinoa with sweet potato. Let me just say how filling quinoa is! I was stuffed! So my question is ... what's an easy way to cook fish? I can't BBQ because it's too cold so can I just wrap the fish in foil and stick it in the oven or toaster oven? You ladies know me, I'm cooking challenged!

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good Morning, Lovely Lean Ladies!

Vicky -- Thank you for the encouragement! I started thinking about it, and as I put on my size 14-16 Lands End coat this morning, I remembered that the average American woman is a size 14 -- so while I am not the proper weight/size for my height, calling myself big is going a bit overboard. I need to get some perspective and realize that putting on that coat, which I could not button 2 years ago -- is definitely progress! :thumbsup2 I know it's belated, but :bday: I am sorry your family didn't take you out, you definitely deserve a celebration! I think this time of year is really hard on our emotions. It's getting darker, we're hungrier, and there's this knowledge that winter is just around the corner...:cold: Hang in there and keep posting, that's where I get too down, when I stop checking in with everyone.

Jackie -- I am very glad to hear you just might make that original MCM goal, I know that would make you very happy! But whatever the result, you should be so proud of yourself -- you are injured and you just keep going! :cool2:

Tandy -- I agree with Jackie, Epcot the night before the Half doesn't sound like a good plan, particularly since you are going Goofy. As I understand it, a lot of people had trouble at W&D because they spent the day in the parks before running. That would essentially be what you would be doing. A good night's sleep will make the morning go so much better -- it's early, there's a lot going on, and so many people...I advise being as well-rested as possible. :thumbsup2 Christopher Robin is now a girl?! pooh: Wow, things have changed since we last looked in on the Hundred Acre Wood...

Beth -- Thank you (and everyone else!) for all the support. Some days it just helps to get it out there, and then remember why I'm doing this. You will get back to where you want to be, I have every confidence -- ok, but you'll have to get out of the spa tub at some point :lmao:

I've been on track for 2 days now. I got up and ran 4M yesterday and today. I got up at 6, and it made a world of difference. I am getting 8 hours of sleep and I feel better in general already. I feel like my life just works better on 8 hours of sleep, and I need to remember to respect that. The funny thing is, I've been having to consciously stop and make myself eat my daytime snacks, because I've been so busy at work. And I've been keeping myself doing things when I get home, so I've been avoiding the scary snack zone. After I eat dessert, I'm done. I like to have a hot cup of tea before bed, and I've been doing it without my customary snack. I don't seem to miss it much, I think it's the tea that makes me relax rather than eating a 100 cal cookie pouch. Although, if I really wanted those cookies, I'd eat them. Much better to do that than end up going crazy because I didn't get what I wanted.

Ok, back to my ridiculously busy week. I won't be sad when this one's over!

Maria :upsidedow

Hi ladies. I'm so glad to see folks posting more. I can't do this alone!

Maria: 2 days in a row is great! :thumbsup2 Sleep is so important. I haven't slept more than 5 hours a night in so long, and I can feel it dragging me down. We don't have school tomorrow, so maybe, just maybe, I can sleep in. (Yeah, right. Not gonna happen.) Yes, they changed Christopher Robins character to a girl in the new cartoons. It is sad.

Vicky: I hope it doesn't rain on you. I do not like to run in the rain. If I have a hat, I can get it done, but I just don't like it. I'm not an expert on fish, but, when I do make it, I tend to just broil it in a pan with seasoning on it. Foil would definately work. It would help keep the moisture in. I'm glad to hear the knee is okay so far. I was curious about training for the full. If we are doing 10/1 splits, what speed are you running for the 10? I'm really bad at figuring all this stuff out. ;)

Jackie: Our hubbys must be cut from the same cloth. Buffet equals more value. In my hubbys defense, he is Scottish! I don't really care, because I can eat anything, anytime. Food is just food.

AFM: I have hurt myself, again. I pulled a muscle in my butt, can you believe it? The outside of my glute. It happened during zumba and squats. I ran fine with my 6 yesterday, but right after I finished, it started up and was horrible today during my 8 miles. I had to slow it up a bit. Plus, I'm developing a blister on the inside of my foot. I need to get to the running store and get fitted properly. I hope to do it on Friday, since I have 18 on Saturday, and could start breaking them in properly.

Eating was great until last night. The guys took me to a cajun restaurant to get us in the mood for POFQ. Man, the food was good, but wow is coming back to hurt me today! Back on bland diet now!

I have taken everyone's advice into consideration. We had planned to spend that Friday in DHS and then, hop over to Epcot. Our dinner ressies aren't even until 8:30 that night at Via Napoli. So, now I've reworked everything, and we are having dinner at 6:30 in DHS and then, going back to the hotel. If the guys want to head over to Epcot, they can. They won't want to though. I am the park commando in the group. They are happy hanging out at the pool, which is probably what we'll do. Or, the hot tub. :thumbsup2 Then, I'll get to bed by 9 or 10, but I still don't think I'll sleep. Plus, I plan to get up at like 2 am. My thyroid medication has to be taken 1 hour before I eat breakfast, and I will have to eat something.

Cindy, Debra, and Manda: I hope you are all doing well, and just too busy running and eating healthy to post! ;)

Have a great day ladies.

Good morning Ladies!

I forgot to mention that I got fitted in the Mizuno truck last week. It came to my local running store, and there was a 20% discount if you were seen in the truck. I went to get the 20% off, and I wear the Mizuno wave rider (neutral shoe). Well.....I said to my kid (he went along since we were coming from his dentist appointment...and yes, he was thrilled! ;)) "they are going to switch up my shoe"......well, guess what? They put my in a support shoe (which makes the price go WAY up!). They had to order them for me, and I picked them up yesterday. The are the Nirvana shoe....very pretty in pink, but I have yet to put them on my feet. I hope they work out since they cost a fortune!

Other than that.....pretty status quo for me. Eating is not bad. I am running....but only got 25 miles in last week. I am finding it hard to find the time right now.....as we all do I guess.

Check in ladies!

Beth

Good morning leanies! Happy Friday! Thanks for all the birthday wishes :goodvibes

Beth - WTG on the 25 miles! I'm on the lookout for new running shoes. I picked up the NB 760 which is the continuation of the 769. The shoe feels a lot different to me and I'm not sure I like them. Plus they have some weird velcro system on the inside of the shoe. I think its for making sure your socks don't wiggle around but it's annoying to take off. Plus the laces are shorter - cutbacks I think. Let me know how you like the Mizuno.

Tandy - How's that pulled muscle doing? It's not the piriformis is it? I pull that one every so often - it's a real pain in the butt  (Sorry!) Luckily the rain stayed away until later in the evening but it really came down. I guess as my mom says it's good for the grass. Unfortunately I think it's going to rain all day Sunday. So I'll have to try and squeeze in my 14 miler in after my therapy session on Saturday afternoon.

As for the intervals... that's a really good question :) I think if I put more thought into it, my times might be more consistent. So when I did both 30K races this year, I used the 10/1 intervals for both but ended up with very different results. I try to maintain at least 10 m/m but sometimes tend to slow down toward the end.

My thought for the full is to go "slower" during the first 1/2. I wouldn't mind grabbing a few pictures at the mile markers. Everyone says the course heading into Animal Kingdom and the long stretch along Osceola Parkway are boring. So I figure I'll save my energy for running harder there - make sure I get into HS and stay away from the sweepers. My goal is just to finish but if I can get a time of under 5:00 (or 4:30 but I know that will be tough if I stop for pictures), I'll be happy.

Maria - Hope the week is less crazy now that it's Friday! I haven't been able to get up early yet for any early morning runs. I still can't stop waking up between 2-3AM but I am getting 8 hours of sleep and that's probably what's important. And a big :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 if you're able to able to fit into a coat and do up the buttons when you couldn't before. I'll bet in a couple of months, you'll need to take that coat in!

AFM - I've been putting in the miles this week but they've been in the evening after work. I can't seem to get up at the right time in the morning - I just want to sleep. Maybe I was a bear in my past life and all I want to do is hibernate! I've got a 14 miler planned for Sunday but the forecast is calling for rain so I might do it on Saturday afternoon or Sunday on the TM. I definitely don't want that but we'll see what happens.

I did a quick core workout last night at the gym. I also talked to one of the outside trainers there about doing a few boxing sessions. One of my actors offered to train with me - he's done boxing and MMA competitions but he trains in the west end of the city which is too far for me to go. Even with a car, I'm looking at 45 minutes of commuting one way :( I figure I'll work with this trainer for now and then see if I can find something closer to my house.

Have a great weekend everyone! :wave2:

Hey Leanies!

I'm not sure how long I'll have to type this before I have to leave, but I figured I'd give it a try!

Vicky -- I think getting the 8 hrs of sleep is definitely most important. I can't believe what a difference it is making in my life after only a few days. Treats I would have never resisted I have been passing by. I just feel better able to think through things. Who knew?! :confused3 The 14M sounds great! DH is doing a half distance Saturday as part of his full training, and I'm doing my usual 10M. I'm resting today since I ran 3 days in a row.

Beth -- Huge envy on the custom-fitted shoes, those sound like they should be awesome! You will have to let us know. I wear Asics nimbus. I really like the way they fit and the comfort. I need to get a new pair, just putting it off until Nov. I think you should be pleased with 25 miles -- I suspect with your busy schedule fitting that in was not easy!

Tandy -- I think your re-worked plan will be better for you, and you'll be glad you did it! I am so sorry you are injured -- doesn't it seem like it's always something? :sad1:

:wave2: to Cindy, Jackie, Debra, Manda!

Ok, so AFM -- I did get up at 6 and run another 4M yesterday, which was good and necessary. My work is totally flat out until Nov. 2nd, and I leave on the 3rd for a conference in Tampa. Yep, I am looking forward to some sunshine! :yay: Vicky reminded me I need to get myself in gear and register for Princess. I plan to make it happen this weekend.

DH and I are going out for dinner tonight at a local Mexican place. I'll keep it to a glass of white sangria and some cheese enchiladas, so hopefully I won't do too much damage. DS is going to a Halloween birthday party at our next door neighbors, so we'll send him off before we go. He's going to be a vampire (classic, not twilight!), so I'm going to do his makeup.

After our runs tomorrow, we have to take ds shopping for some dress clothes. I'm actually looking forward to it. We're going to a relatively new mall with a bunch of stores I never get near, so I'm happy! I'm probably the only one in the family who feels that way, but they can eat pretzels while I check out the Vera Bradley store! ;)

Maria :upsidedow

Hi ladies. I've had a bummer of a day, but more on that later.

Maria: Great job getting up and getting those miles in. Hope you have fun on your date tonight. You must have more willpower than me at a mexican restaurant. I don't need dinner, just a frozen margarita and chips and salsa! I would have to stear clear of Vera Bradley also. There are so many cute bags.

Vicky: I guess I'll start playing with my pace tomorrow and see what I come up with. I am going to do that 18 with the 10/1 so maybe I'll start the first mile by running a 9 minute pace and see what it averages out to be with the walking. I'm pretty tall with long legs, so my relaxed walking will be about 4 mph. As for pics, I'm fine as long as there isn't some crazy long line. ;) I won't be getting any pics at all on Saturday, so Sunday will involve a few. Especially if there is a Pooh character anywhere. Boxing sounds like fun. I've done the whole Tae Bo kickboxing thing and love it when we do that in zumba. I may have hurt myself with a high side kick though. :guilty:

Beth: Great deal on the shoes. How are they feeling? I am not a girly girl at all, but I love pink running shoes! :lovestruc

AFM: Well, today's run is a bust! I had so many 10 year old boys over here that I felt I couldn't go out and run, so I jumped on the TM (got a new motor put in on Wednesday). I couldn't run more than a few minutes! My injury is more intense than I first thought. The area that I think is injured is the illiotibial tract or, hopefully, the bicep femoris in the hamstring? It is a pain that runs along the outside of the glute and all down through the outside of the hamstring. I'm icing and ibuprofening (is that a word?) now and am still going to attempt tomorrows 18 miles, but if it hurts, I may have to take a week off and rework my training plan. Next week's miles are small, so if I can just get through tomorrow, I can take it easy. I'm bummed. Plus, I ate junk last night and my stomach hurts. We're going out again tonight after the running store, so I'll probably eat poorly again. I think I am food obsessed right now because of all the disney planning! ;)

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend. Good luck on everyone's long runs.

After doing more research, I'm pretty sure it's not an IT band issue. I have no hip pain or knee pain, just outside of glute, and hamstring pain. So, let's hope it's just muscular and will get better soon. :thumbsup2

Well, here I go again with those back to back to back posts. I'm just addicted to this place, I guess!

I ran my 18 today against many obstacles and still finished in 2 hours 45 minutes!!!!!!!

My treadmill was repaired Wedensday, so I hopped on there thinking this would be a nice distance to break it in. For the first 8 miles of my run, it died 8 times! The tread just stopped! The timer was still going and it still had my mileage up there, but it just stopped. 6 of the times, I just pushed start again and it started up. But, 2 of the times, I had to unplug it and start over. So, then, I jumped in the car, and finished up the other 10 on my local trail. I had to grab my Garmin, water belt, gels, I pod and phone and get there quick because I didn't want to lose what I had already done.

As far as the run itself, I had a hard time holding my speed down at first. I kept feeling the need to go faster and had to remind myself that this was some SERIOUS distance. At mile 16, I hit my wall and thought about walking the rest. Then, at mile 17, I took off as fast as I could go. It felt wonderful.

The hamstring and glute are sore, but not like they were yesterday. So, maybe I'll get over this lilttle injury.

The shoe store was kind of a bust last night. I got fitted, they had the shoes in my size, which, according to them is an 11!!!!!:scared1:But, they didn't have the color I wanted, so they called their other stores and found a pair. They need to ship them, so it'll be a few days. They are Asics 2150s. I can get them online cheaper, so I may go that route, since they didn't have them anyway. But, at least if I buy them at the store, if I use them indoors and don't like them, they'll exchange them. I don't think an online store will do that. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the 11. I have been wearing 9 1/2s forever.

Have a nice weekend ladies. :)

Tandy - I wear an 8 or 8 1/2 in regular shoes. My running shoes are 10's. It was a big enough shock when the New Balance store told me I should wear a larger size when I started running, but then after I lost 2 toenails during the WDW marathon, the Mizuno rep moved me up to a 10. But that's the reason for having the running store fit you... Running Warehouse will accept returns for up to 60 days, I think. The shoes just have to look like they haven't been worn. But I'd keep the pair from the local store anyway. I'm a big fan of supporting the local stores, even though I do buy online when I can to save some money.

Great job on the 18 - even with all the trials and tribulations!

Maria - We can keep each other company at work. I'm going non-stop until I leave on Friday for DC. I have a MAJOR project due on Thursday, plus roll out open enrollment information and learn an entirely new A/R system before I leave. 4 days. If you see me on the DIS, tell me to GET OFF!

So... 1 week to go. We did an 8 mile run on Saturday and took it really slow and easy. Then my friend and I went out to breakfast and discussed all our travel plans. We leave Friday morning, assuming I survive the week at work. I've spent all weekend making sure I have everything I need, getting my hair cut, cleaning the house, so I can focus on finishing packing and working for the next 4 days. The same friend read an article on tapering that said not to even look at the scale during the taper, and I found out why last week when I tiptoed on to it. I won't make that mistake again until after the marathon. And only then after I've starved myself for at least a week!

Jackie

Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! It was a cold and rainy one here...

Jackie - I'll bet most people are like me and the thought to change eating habits during taper weeks doesn't even cross their minds. Good job on your 8 miler! And since you're trying to stay off the boards, I'll wish you good luck at MCM now in case I don't catch you before you leave! I'm so excited you're able to do the run and can't wait to hear about it when you get back! If you're a cupcake fan, go over to Georgetown Cupcake for a post-race reward. They're delish!

Tandy - Sorry to hear about your TM. How old is it? I think I remember you had it repaired earlier in the year? But WTG on your 18 miler! Holy moley! Looks like I'm going to be the one who's going to have to keep up with you during the full. You should come to Toronto and run one of the 30K races, you'll probably place! As for the shoe size, I'd just ignore it. As long as the shoe fits and is comfortable, don't worry about number. I'm sure every manufacturer has different sizing standards anyway so you still could be a 9.5!

Maria - How was your 10 miler? Do you and Dennis run part of the distance together? Can you pack me in your suitcase and take me to Tampa too? I could use some warm weather after the rain this weekend. I did pick up a new winter coat today. So maybe it will bring us the same kind of luck as last year. I remember I bought a coat last year and it stayed warm(ish) and dry until the end of January.

AFM - I did my 14 miler after I came back from my Saturday appointment. Funny thing ... whenever I'm at work, I'm always thinking "Gee wouldn't be great if I could workout/going running etc. around 2-3pm." Fast forward to Saturday where the only thing I wanted to do was to take a nap  I got my butt out there because I didn't want to deal with the rain and cold on Sunday. I did the 14 miles at just under an 11 m/m pace. The rain did kick in around the 9 mile mark but I pushed through and finished.

It was nice to sleep in on Sunday and be lazy around the house. I did hit the shopping mall and found a red pea coat that was 40% off. Yay! It's just long enough to cover my butt so I won't get too chilly on my commute home. I also bought a pair of riding style boots. These ones wouldn't zip up over my jeans ... boo! So I'll probably just wear them with a skirt and tights.

I've got my training session tomorrow and I'm doing my first boxing session on Wednesday. I feel sorry for the trainer because I'm so uncoordinated

Have a great night everyone! :wave2:

Hey Lean Ladies! Sorry I am late posting....busy day, again!

Tandy: I don't know what is causing your pain.....but, have BTDT! I can't even tell you what fixed it....just know it was a big pain in the behind! Hope you feel better soon? My shoe size is a nine and I am now in a 9.5 running shoe. I am even wondering if they should be a 10?

Vicky: You are moving right along with your training! I had a boxing class a few years ago, and LOVED it! I wish they still had it.....

Maria: How's it going? I know you are crazy busy too....too bad we have to be 'working' ladies, right?

Jackie: I have been avoiding the scale too! When I know the numbers are bad....I would just rather not know! :scared1:

AFM: Baseball tournies this weekend went well! But, I had 6 baseball games Sat and sun.....didn't get to run at all. We thought both boys advanced, but kid#2 got ripped on his.....they missed advancing by one run. They were tied up record wise with another team, so the 'tie-breaker' was how many runs each team allowed for each tourney game. We missed by one... he is not happy at all!

Kid #1 advanced as first seed in his bracket, so we have 3 possible games next weekend.

I got a 5 miler in today before work....which is great, but sitting here now really tired!

Eating was the pitts this weekend.....cleaned it up today!

Beth

Hi ladies. I hope everyone is doing well today. Did we all make it through Monday okay?

Beth: Great for one son, but I'm sorry for the other. These tournaments are tough! I am kind of glad we didn't do any of the fall tournies, although we'll be making up for it this summer. At least you did get the one run in. :) I think eating has been bad for everyone. We are all training for something, and that's just the way it goes. :confused3

Vicky: The TM is 10 years old, but it's a higher end one, and according to my repairman, after we get this control panel fixed, it'll be brand new. Of course, he's doing a really good job of making sure he has a job, isn't he? I will now have $450 in repairs this year. But, it was over $2,000 on sale 10 years ago. So, it's not like I can replace it for anywhere near that. And, it has a flexdeck which are hard to find. I love boot shopping. Unfortunately, I have 5 pair of knee high winter boots and hubby has said no more! :sad1: But, I wear them all the time. My big thing now is my cowboy boots. I haven't been dancing more than 2 times since we got them, so I'm forcing Frank to take me Friday. I even got brave last time and wore them with a dress. Only works in a country bar. :lmao:

Jackie: I'm so excited for you. This is just going to be the best experience. I'm glad you have managed to stay in one piece for the training. The scale is nothing! You need to have an overload of carbs going, so you're just right! And, yes, you can lose it later. Have a fantastic time.

AFM: I am feeling so good about my running. I wasn't even slightly sore from the 18. I must be doing the training better this time than I did for my half. I couldn't really walk the next day after that. My muscle issue is all better now also.

Eating is horrible!!!!! Oh well. I have a good week, then a bad one. I kind of average out okay though.

The treadmill is getting a new control panel. Like I told Vicky, it's the last thing to be replaced, and then, the treadmill is basically new. It better be, because it's very important to me to be able to run even when the weather is bad.

I went ahead and ordered 2 more pairs of shoes, so I'll be set. They should all be here in a few days, so we'll see how I do.

Have a great one!

Just so you ladies don't think I fell off the face of the earth...

Ran 4M this morning, eating good but skipped all snacks and part of lunch because I just didn't have time. I was still sending e-mails at 7pm...

Looking forward to a better day tomorrow -- actually, it probably won't be, but I need the illusion to get up and go!

I wasn't on today to see if I needed to kick Jackie off -- I'm guessing not based on her ridiculously busy week -- with something incredible at the end!

Another 4M tomorrow, then I have to drive a zip car with our VP in it. Should be interesting, she scares me on a good day...then back to work to deal with the crazy again. I am so psyched for the Rocky Horror episode of Glee -- I feel like I'm earning it!

Maria :upsidedow
