Working a deal with Disney

I currently have 200 SSR points, but would ultimately like to have 150 SSR and 150 AKV. Does anyone have any experience with working exclusively through Disney to get this done? One line of thinking I had was that if Disney exercises their ROFR on a resale of SSR points then why can't they just buy back my points directly so that I can get my desired 150 SSR and 150 AKV points. I guess the easy thing to do would be just buy 100 AKV points, but I would like to qualify as a founding member (and purchasing 150 AKV points is a little more than I would like to spend-total of 350 points is a little too many points). Any thoughts are appreciated.

Actually, Disney DOES buy back points...but they only pay $55 per point, definitely not a good deal for you.

If it is really important to have AKV 11-month advantage (and the tapestry), AND you don't want too many points...then, you would have to sell SSR re-sale and start over with the 2 new contracts that you want.

This is all I can come up with...others who are more in the know may be able to add or correct this info. :goodvibes

Is this a regular thing for all resorts? I have heard of very limited reports of this, and only at BCV. :smokin:

Can't say for sure, but I believe so. Heck, it is a great deal for Disney...buy them back at $55 and then sell them for $95...or $101 depending....

Other than giving your points to DVC at 60% what they're worth, there's no way to do this. And you couldn't split up a contract to do it anyway even if DVC agreed otherwise. Your best options are to just go for the 150 AKV anyway or forego the hype of the founding member issue. You could also add on at AKV then sell all of your SSR possibly adding something else later though you'd lose somewhat on the cost per point differential.

Just curious - what does a "founding member" get you??? At this point if you really wanted the "founding member" I would just find a way to pay for the extra 50 points, you will probably add on down the road anyway!!! We all do!!!!! Good luck! Or purchase just 100 points, then with the banking and borrowing, you would have 300 a trip if needed.

As a founding member you get your name woven into the tapestry that will hang in the lobby. For some, this a huge selling point...to literally be part of WDW.

They said they were going to hang my picture in the AKV lobby above the tapestry.

... At least, I think that's why they called me in for head shots...

I do admit it's tough to get over the hype...being a part of AKV/AKL is what is drawing us in. We fell in love with the resort when we stayed in 2004. I'll just have to make the decision between the 100 or 150 add-on points.

Thanks for everyones comments.

At least the more you buy, the more you save, up to a point.

I went for the full 150 as AKL is my favourite resort, I want the 11-month window (an absolute must if you want to stay there anytime in the next several years I'd imagine)...and the tapestry, while not a selling point for me, was sorta cool.

I have been SO disappointed with some of the other DVC's, AKL was an obvious personal choice for me.

It's where this lion :simba: will sleep at night.

At BCV when we bought pre-construction, they scratched our names into the a table in one of the villas. At VWL when we bought pre-construction, they planted a tree in the woods near the dumpster.;)

Waiting patiently for the pre-construction CRV "founding member" hook. :rolleyes1

What do you mean by founding member??

If you buy a minimum of 150 AKV pts by February 28, you are a founding member and get your name put on a Village Tapestry that will be displayed in the new lobby.

I am not sure when you purchased at SSR, so this may not be an option for you at all. We purchased at SSR during the F & F promotion and our contract had not been finalized yet when AKV became available for sale. Our guide knew that we really wanted to purchase 150 at AKV, so he had them re-write our SSR contracts (we purchased 2 150s) into 1 150 SSR and 1 50 SSR, with 3 50pt AKV. We actually ended up with 350 because I had changed my mind and decided 300 was not enough, but he would have cancelled the 150 at SSR altogether if we had only wanted 300.

Oh okay. Thanks. That is pretty cool.
