work/paycheck vent!

I am so upset and mad at my company! We are supposed to get paid on the 15th and last day of the month. First paycheck (I have direct deposit) off the year didn't come until or get deposited until the 17th and now again it happens again! Our direct deposit isn't coming until tomorrow, Feb. 1st! They don't even want to hear about it! Well alot of my bills come automatically out the end of the month! When you are living paycheck to paycheck this is really frustrating. Of course the powers that be don't care because they are all sitting pretty. One of them even said we are spoiled! Spoiled to expect our paycheck on time, sheesh! ok, rant over, thanks all.

Stuff like this is why I set all of my bills to come out 2-3 days after my DH's paycheck goes in - just in case. Sorry you're having so many problems!

I do the same thing for that very reason.

If this problem continues you should complain to the Department of Labor. Employees are supposed to be paid on schedule.

Most are (sent up after), but some I didn't have a choice with dates.

This happened to me often at a former job, except our paychecks were over 2 weeks late on occasion.

Division of Wage and Hour stated when I called them that unless we hadn't been paid in over a month, they wouldn't even investigate. YMMV according to state, but I don't think anyone's going to get involved over a 24 hour difference.

What Maleficent13 says is pretty much true, at least it was in Washington State. I worked for an attorney who had also done employment law in the past and I believe it was 14 days after the date of the end of your pay period that you had to be paid by, for example if your pay period ended on the 5th, and you were normally paid on the 10th for that two week period, they would not be "in trouble" until they had not paid you by the 19th and even then, it was a long drawn out process. We had situations crop up with my husband's company, which was going under at the time, which is why I had asked. Don't take that number of days as the gospel truth, but it was something like that.

I don't think you are spoiled or anything like that for wanting your paycheck on time, but I don't think the DOL or anyone will do a darn thing about it.

Are you sure you're supposed to be PAID on the 15th & last of the month?

Many employers that run payroll 2X a month have their pay periods END on the 15th & end of month. They usually PAY 7-10 days after that due to processing time and mailing time (paper check - direct deposit usually is a little quicker). Remember, if the pay-period ends on the 15th, you can't write a check (or direct deposit) until that day is done!

You might want to double check with your employer's policy before automatically assuming that the "powers that be" who are "sitting pretty" and "don't care" are trying to screw you. They're people, just like you. I'd hate for you (or anyone) to start hating their "big bad employer" over a simple misunderstanding. Sure, there are bad employers out there, but 99.9% of them are just trying to provide a service, make their employees & customers happy, and turn a profit at the same time. It ain't always easy.

So, before everyone jumps on the "call the labor board" or "call an attorney" bandwagon, why not find out all the facts and try and resolve it easily.

My husband is also paid on the 15th and the last day of the month. The 15 of January was a Sunday, and the next day was MLK, Jr. Day, so I can see how that one didn't go in until the 17th. My husband's employer paid them Friday, the 13th instead, which we greatly appreciated.

Yes, I am sure of pay period, I have been employed here for 8 years. And yes, I will jump on them, my company stinks for many reasons, not just this one, this is the icing on the cake. For them to say we are spoiled for expecting our paychecks on the dates we are told when we are hired is just out of line and insulting.

It would have been difficult for your paycheck to have been deposited on Jan. 15 as that was a Sunday. Your payroll dept. would probably usually process the payroll checks on the 14th and since the 14th was a weekend, they probably waited until the 16th which is why you didn't get paid until the 17th.

I completely agree! There is no excuse for not getting paid on the designated days (except on a rare occasion!) Whenever my pay date falls on a weekend or holiday, we ALWAYS get paid on the last business day before the weekend or holiday.

Both, paycheck people checks are dated Feb. 1 and direct depositi won't be there until Feb. 1.

I understand where you're coming from. DH gets paid every other Friday - but when I was working, we got paid on the 15th and the last day of the month. If either one of those days fell on a weekend or holiday, we got paid the business day BEFORE that day. So, 15th was a Sunday, we got paid on the 13th. If the 13th for some had been a holiday, we have gotten paid on the 12th. I agree with you - if they tell you this is when you will be paid, it needs to happen, or you should get some sort of explanation - not accused of being spoiled.

Just a question but are you sure it is your company and not your bank. I have had problems with the bank not putting the money through immediately even though I know my company has done their end. That could also explain the earlier Paycheck in Jan where banks were not open MLK day.

Just because the pay periods were one way when you were hired in doesn't mean the employer can't ever, ever change them. At one of my previous jobs, everyone was paid on the 1st and the 15th. A year or two after I was hired, they changed it to the 10th and 25th. They are allowed to do that (make changes, that is).

Well the company is saying its a bank mistake, someone called the bank and the bank is saying the reverse.
