Just because the pay periods were one way when you were hired in doesn't mean the employer can't ever, ever change them. At one of my previous jobs, everyone was paid on the 1st and the 15th. A year or two after I was hired, they changed it to the 10th and 25th. They are allowed to do that (make changes, that is).

Did you maybe miss a memo/announcement?

If I did then the whole company missed it, because everyone is walking around complaining about this all morning. If they are going to change the policy then I would expect a heads up, but I don't think this is the case here.
